Camper NE go bust

So sorry to hear Camper N.E has ceased trading. Never bought a van from them , but had body work done on our van a couple of times and couldn't fault the service, the workmanship was excellent. Friendly staff and great service every time. Hope I can find the same good sevice elsewhere if needed.

the finance company seen to think the van was financed at one of the times my van was back with camper NE
Given what's been said above - I think I'd be making sure that Camper NE didn't raise any finance on your van whilst they had it in for repair...

I would not expect they committed fraud on customers vans in for repair, just those that had a paper-trail of ownership going through camper NE. otherwise they would of been caught before when owners went to sell their vans

In 2012 Camper UK must have had some kind of connection with Camper NE as they sent my Burstner up there without my knowledge to be sold, this took nearly a year and I keep wondering if they even hired it out during this time. Anyway they sold it but Camper UK actually paid me instead of Camper NE.

Camper UK and Camper NE definitely had a connection at that time, and for some years afterwards, because they shared stands at some shows.
We bought our used Burstner from Camper NE in 2012, sold on behalf of a customer, but not yours because the owner lived in Newcastle :-)

It is up to the logbook lender to notify HPI (or Experian or Cheshire Data Systems) about the finance secured against the vehicle by this method. That is entirely voluntary. The statutory Register of bills of sale is kept by the High Court. In order to search that Register for free you need the registration number of the bill of sale, which only the lender would know. Or, you can search against the name and postcode of the borrower, for a fee of £50. You can't search against the vehicle registration, so it is basically not fit for purpose.

The upshot is that if the logbook lender didn't notify HPI, the private buyer of that vehicle has no chance of knowing that a loan has been secured on it, and no legal protection against the lender.

Fortunately logbook loans mainly affect the used car and van market. I have not heard of it affecting the MH market but it can't be ruled out.

That’s scandalous the fact the public can’t access the info required.

Morning all , just another update !
This morning I received written confirmation from the finance company that the finance on my motorhome has been removed , I have done another HPI check and it is now clear !
I’m so happy with this news I really hope others involved in this fraud also have their disputes resolved , good luck everyone xx

I've not commented on this thread but I have been following your progress. I've found it really shocking and I'm so glad that you've been able to get clarification fairly quickly that all is well.

Hope it work out as well for the others affected.
Thanks for the updates.

Congratulations. I'm so happy you have retained your van.
I'll not be so lucky. They owe me over 20k. I've known them for many years but couldn't believe they have been so bent. I could tell you much more but this fraud will possibly end up in court. More and more deceit , dishonesty and illegal transactions are coming to light daily.

I really hope you get sorted and yes I think the fraud is sadly on a huge scale

not going into details, but I am involved with a fraud case where a quarter of a million pounds was taken. 3 years on and this week the case went to the Crown Prosecution Service CPS to agree charges. So don't hold your breath for justice to be quick

It appears this fraud far exceeds your 250,000. As you say it takes years to follow the paper trail if one exists. The frustrating part is the management are still nice and comfortable in there detached houses in an affluent area of Tyneside with expensive cars and sticking 2 fingers up at us.

maybe right now they are, but if the judge rules on the proceeds of crime act, all those possessions are able to be seized and sold to pay victims back. Especially HMRC who will push for it if the fraud included tax avoidance

Unfortunately this type of person has a way of laying off their assets to safe areas

Believe me these people will have planned for this eventuality. They've had year's to plan and execute this fraud.
I would like to have more faith in the justice system but throughout my business life it never came in favour of ordinary people. I hope I'm proved wrong this time.

Please don’t call people crooks here until there have been convictions. Thanks.

We just need to be careful. The company is not in liquidation yet, we don’t know if it will be restructured, and no one yet knows for sure if criminal activity has occurred and if it has, who is actually guilty. So best not to leave oneself open to a libel claim at this stage.

Awful experience but so happy for you that the Finance company have confirmed there have removed the obligation on the motorhome.

Must be such a relief. Hopefully, you can now go and enjoy

Hi everyone, an update on my situation with regards to CamperNE and them having finance on my camper even though I paid in full.
Very good news, the finance company told us yesterday that they are relinquishing any finance they had on the vehicle. When I asked, when I should check the HPI, his answer was I wouldn’t wast £20 on it. My reply I made that mistake last time. Will do the check in a couple of weeks and hopefully should all be done and dusted.
Thanks to everyone with your advise and support, it’s been a trying few weeks.

Pleased to read you have had a good ending to all the worry over the last few weeks. (y)

Hopefully, that's your stress quota used up for a quite while, what a bloody nightmare!

Isn't normal great Jim.:)

So pleased there's a good result for you.
They had a van conversion belonging to me on sale or return. Found out last week they sent it to the auctions last November without telling me. I've no chance of receiving anything back. People wouldn't believe what's been going on.

That is disgraceful behaviour, feel for you, how much roughly was it worth
