CAMC retention

The view in front of me as I sit outside my van at a Aire beside the lake at Lisle-sur-Tarn in France where it’s been 24 degrees today. The cost, nil, much better than 20% off a CAMC site, and no wardens or rules. 😀

But it's in France - so that rules it out for me...

It's our main bank account and boss is ex staff so we only pay half price and there is no way she would stop using it so insurance free to us.
So how much is half price?

After the hiatus caused by the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone that ended on Tuesday I decided to book a CAMC site for 3 nights. The pitch prices looked a bit steep for low season but I pressed on.

I used the very clunky online booking service. I did notice that availability at the site we wanted was better than for the same month last year. Now I can understand why. It froze at the payment confirmation page, so I presume the card payment for the deposit failed to go through despite my card provider having authorised the payment. Tried again after deleting all cookies. You have to start from scratch, and this time it froze before I reached the payment stage. The new software the Club is using isn't user-friendly and basically has bugs so needs a lot more fixing. I rang them up. After waiting a while, got through. Their helpful agent (who didn't seem at all surprised by my problems) took payment over the phone to complete the booking.

How many members are actually getting the booking system to work? Which browser does it work with best?

At this rate I will try the commercial sites first for our other planned breaks in the UK.

Their old online system for booking sites was much easier to use and last year worked well for us. All those 2022 bookings were made before the Club required deposits. We only cancelled once and that was due to circumstances beyond our control. Hardly a big problem for the Club.

The other change I noticed is that the site office phone numbers are no longer shown in the 2023 Members Handbook. They don't seem to want us to phone sites to check late availability.

The Club gets more and more annoying. The Club has lost its main advantage for us. Not sure yet if I will renew our membership.
The phone numbers are at the back of the handbook, p.699 onwards. Apparently, we members said it would be better if they were in one place rather than on the site page!!!!
Also I would check your bank account, lots of stories having similar payment frozen problems, only to find money has actually been taken from account.`

Heard on the qt that CAMC are lining up Dylan Mulvaney to be the new face of the club, they heard he was recently looking for a new job and someone mentioned he was particularly fond of "camping" ?
sounds about right

CAMC site in desirable location on a warm June weekend.*

Too expensive or also that some wardens lack a little of the customer empathy training?

p.s. why have separate hot and cold taps, with a sign saying "care very hot water" (which it is) and no plug? Makes the hot tap redundant.
*not taken at 11-13.00 changeover time.

Apart from the £300 ferry, £200 diesel, £300 insurance etc.😀
I can be in France for less than a gall. of diesel. That's £5.77
Return Trip on BF is, ball park, £130 return??? ( That's £200 each way - £120 Club Voyage membership, = £280 - vouchers earned giving my code to peeps I know on here, = £130)
So we're short of £140 and I have a GHIC Card that will do me when in France.

So, for less than three nights on some of the all singing, all dancing CAMC sites.

I know which journey I'd be on.

That looks horrible, do you have to wear a DJ to get in?

I have a similar view from my pitch in a very desirable location in Cornwall. I estimate an occupancy of 20% or less 😎

Best thing the Caravan Club ever did I can always find a pitch at short notice and despite what you read the sites are not empty and weekends can still be difficult. In my opinion they need to tidy up their web site but I guess that will come with time.

Not at all.
Identikit CAMC site'*
But I was told off for being late going back to tell office which pitch I had chosen (events took over after arrival - and I hadn't been reminded in the office). And told off for dogs coming out of awning without a lead (just to head for back of car) when I had opened awning in order to talk to warden.

*They've stopped radio two in the loos (which are closed for 2 hours for cleaning) - is that a harrumph over Ken dot Bruce leaving?

Sounds awful to me.

We didn't renew as we simply weren't getting the use to justify the annual fee and have found no shortage of good independent sites. Not had a call - they obviously don't think we are worth it :)
As a web developer by trade I found the website and search facility abysmmal - I did tell them, maybe that's why they haven't called

Thinking of using them to plan a winter stay in Spain using their hosted breaks, ferry/tunnel discounts and travel insurance. They also do sites to and fro so they advertise.
Anyone done all this?

Been a CAMC member since 2019, generally can't fault their sites you know what you are getting when you book, with the memebrs discounts etc i just about cover my membership with savings i make - mainly mountain warehouse!!
However I'm finding that the dyanmic pricing they are using and the awful app and website update are begining to p me off big time. I've been in IT for 30+ years and feel i know my way around , but I can't believe how unfriendly it is to use and having to constantly wait for it to catch up and refresh the page so you can see the info and why oh why won't it default to your prefered options when you log on ie 2 adults Autosleeper Nuevo etc rather than having to input it each time to check prices etc - really frustating when it keeps crashing as well. - I've now resulting in planning my trips by using the club map to find the sites and then checking prices online, so much better for my blood pressure
The prices seem to have increased a fair bit and with the dyanmic pricing you can check one week and then again a few weeks later and the pitch price has increase and there is low availabilty, can understand this approach if you are Ryan Air or Easy Jet but this is a Club for the members!!
I think about 35-40% of our bookings this year are on private sites or CL's, there are still a couple of main sites we use on a regular basis as the location etc suits us - but with the increasing prices who know for how much longer.
I have given my feedback to CAMC via email and git the standard "thank you for you email . . ." response but have heard nothing since

Decided this year not to renew CAMC, their pitch prices are extortionate and now they are starting to restrict pitch availability by installing glamping pods.

I can’t be the only one as I got a call this morning from them to persuade me to renew. Unfortunately I didn’t catch the call, just on voicemail, as I’d have liked to explain why while sitting in a free Aire in the south of France. 😀
We’ve jacked aswell just rip off in my opinion

Not had the call yet. Cancelled our membership last month. Just not worth it anymore. We stayed at the Blackhorse farm , Folkestone site last month on a ferry pitch. £32 for less that 12hours. Crazy. The site was only third full!
