CAMC retention

We stayed at wyatts covert for 3 nights last weekend. They are trialing the smart meter scheme where, for June, pitch fees were reduced by £2 per night. Our electricity cost us just over £6 so it was about break even. We felt it was a little expensive as we were out all day and the days were long and the weather was hot so it was mainly for some tv in the evenings and the kettle for a few brews morning and evening.
For similar usage in Spain in May for 10days metered leckie for us was €5.( fridge on solar during the day) Yours sounds expensive. Surely the reduction should be more than a mingy £2, if they were charging extra for ehu it would be at least £5.

Yes, but reduction in price for non electric is negligible and they couldnt have come up with a more complicated payment system if they had tried. the results of the trial will be really interesting.
Agreed, the results will be interesting.
Guess the involvement of a third party is because of the Club's lack of first-hand knowledge of the functionality and to reduce upfront investment in the kit.
But, at least, they're listening and trying.
Wonder if they'll eventually bring the operation in-house following the trialling if it points to wider rollout? Perhaps using the card details used to process the booking?

May look a bit expensive as the billed rate will be a commercial rate that doesn't have the same Governmental support we have with our domestic rates?
The challenges going forward could be how effectively they forward buy energy, reduce non-specific pitch energy costs, implement alternative technology (eg solar \ wind \ etc), etc and the investment costs to provide these and how these relate to pitch fees.

Guess it depends on a number of factors including the cost \ kWh in UK vs Spain, solar output, etc.
Without actual consumption and cost data it's impossible for the layman to derive what any pitch cost reduction should be.
There is also the geographic scope of Club site locations and the prevalent weather conditions. As hja says above the trial system is already complex. Think what it would be like if this was to be based on a specific location or even regionally!:Eeek:

You've just reminded me that our fridge was also using the electricity and as it was a hot weekend, would be working harder than usual. I agree with your comments about the charge of £5 on a lot of sites for electricity but only £2 reduction not to have it included.

Th
I guess they got the funding for this from the Touring members fees ..... membership and site.... If only they had stayed true to club ethics
That was never going to happen, diversification is their key to not relying on fickle MHs and the reducing number of caravaners. They state in their own report that twice as many MHs use their sites as caravaners, shame they don’t then consider what MHs want ? not just ‘ How can we make money off them?‘ The club mentality doesn’t exist it’s just a cash rich business.

Our first trip in our own Motorhome we were heading for the baltic, weather looked crap turned right at Belgium ended up in Slovenia.
So you swapped crap weather for crap wine.

Got a linky from Cycling UK for "Summer activity" email...... and yep..... it's the CAMC trading as https://www.experiencefreedom.co.uk/#msdynttrid=qvZmtKo2YVaxtZfasgkHhk7Sy8htAoyAWDE4BKl5PZo
Experience Freedom..... so I am correct... now trading as a Travel Company not a Club
Is it registered in the Cayman Islands? Nothing would surprise me!

You should at least be able to transfer booking/deposits to another date/site because at the end of the day, if your booking and rebooking online it’s not costing the club (sic) anything,

It will be costing the club something if someone was turned away because the site was booked by stayaways and it was too late to for someone else to use that pitch.

Filled it in to wind them up :rolleyes:

Poor values was the answer for sites

Shame there isn’t an opening question ‘do you 1) wish to complete this survey or 2) tell us where to shove it’?

My village. Are you in the Willow Car Park? Last time I looked it was about £8 with water. Great stopover a few yards from the harbour, public toilets nearby. St Mawes is full of yuppies, there are some nice places to visit on the Roseland Peninsula including the lovely church and creek at St Just in Roseland,
Yes a regular stop for us when visiting Cornwall is the Willow Car Park, Mevagissey. £10 now per night but still good value as 2 min walk into town and access to all it has to offer. Love Mevagissey. Was up St Just way staying at Sennen CCC site for a couple of nights. Used the Lands End Coaster to get about. £5 day river ticket excellent value.

ACR discount is for over 60's so you must compare like for like and do 0-60 for both clubs! We use the 30% grass pitch discount whenever possible, can get a pitch for less than a CL a lot of the time.
Don’t see the CAMC offering O-60 discount so it is like for like on what it would cost us for the night.

Okay, so I've been reading quite a few of the posts about pricing and the new deposit system and have to say that I'm certainly not too happy about the price hikes. I'm not sure how much of an issue there was with late cancellations as to whether or not the deposit requirements were in any way justified. I haven't been a member for long and only used the club sites a couple of times so far.

I note that the deposit requirement has now been halved since I booked and there seems to be quite a few promotions so it's clear that the changes are very popular (not).

I booked 3 nights in Edinburgh and 1 night in the lake district enroute (to break up the journey). I had to pay a £25 deposit for the one night and another for the 3 night stay. For reasons beyond my control, I am struggling to make the lake district booking so wanted to amend the date so that I could break up the return journey from Edinburgh. I was going to book another 2 nights somewhere for the return from Edinburgh anyway but hadn't completed this yet.

I would have expected to lose the £25 deposit if I'd just cancelled the one night but I was somewhat surprised to find that when I asked to move the booking by a few days and extend it to 2 nights, I was informed that I would lose the £25 deposit as a cancellation and then have to pay the new revised deposit of £20 for the new booking. Given the much higher cost of site fees as well, I have to say that this leaves a bad taste in the mouth and I'm inclined to look for other alternatives.

Whilst this may be part of the new T&C, I don't think that this is very customer focussed. I will be looking for a suitable alternative site in Edinburgh for future visits and if I find something suitable, CAMC will be losing another member when my renewal pops in a month or two.

If anyone has any suggestions of a good alternative site convenient for Edinburgh, I'd be grateful for a steer.

I wonder if the city wonderboys who run the club now ever read these forums? Doubt it. It’s too dark up where they are 😱😂

I can report something positive at last!

I have been meandering around Devon and Cornwall for the last month - all preplanned and booked with a mixture of C&CC, CMHC and independent sites.

Today I have arrived at Carnon Downs CMHC which is a great site to catch the bus into Falmouth, Truro and beyond.

Luck would have it that the Falmouth Shanty Festival is on this weekend so, instead if starting to head home on Sunday via Burnham in Sea, I want to stay here an extra night.

With the new system, it is possible to switch sites without penalty if you are already travelling.

Win, win 👍

Yip something that was retained from the old system/processes

Just spent a few days at CMC Broadway, busy and no vacancies over the weekend. It seems many are prepared to pay the price.
Not normal for me to spend £43 a night or anywhere near but meeting friends in this case.
Nice site and location but prefer CLs due to cost.

I’ve always used Morton Hall when motorhoming near Edinburgh. Normally cheaper than CAMC and there’s a bus runs from the entrance to Princess Street and back.
