Got one and always have an issue with the flames going out on even the slightest of breeze. I have used foil like the photo to try and shield the side slits from letting the wind in.
Just saw the age of the thread!Ours is the the same. Almost unsusable, it blows out at the slightest breeze. Any other hints how to keep it alight?
They are South African products and the 'skottel' (dish) became very popular there long before being exported. But people don't usually traipse around in motorhomes from site to site over an extended period. So usage patterns tend to be different. And the 'braai' (barbecue) is almost a religious sacrament and it would be sacrilegious to begrudge the attention that needs to be lavished on the shrine.Just saw the age of the thread!

I use the paella pan without the wire support. Never gone out yet. If it's really windy then maybe a windbreak nearby, but generally it's fine.Ours is the the same. Almost unsusable, it blows out at the slightest breeze. Any other hints how to keep it alight?
About 90cmHow long is your gas pipe?
About 90cm
I do use butane because I have a large unused bottle if that makes any difference?
We love our Weber Q too, but we removed it from motorhome in favour of the cadac as the locker space saved is... extreme. We used pretty much half a locker for the Weber, versus about 1/8th for the Cadac. After 3 cadac’s. Settled for Webber Q1200 excellent
Someone must make a better version of the cadac. They are fantastic apart from price, they don’t stay alight, and don’t have an igniter.
Is it any better at staying alight though? The new 40 version has an igniter, the bigger 50 has had one for years.

Interesting. ThanksNo idea but the new design does look less likely to be blown out by the wind.
Our tiny table top safari has a lighter as wellThe new 40 version has an igniter, the bigger 50 has had one for years.
I love ours
Me too…
Surely used like that they are just big frying pans ...Same as…
The paella pan option used for breakfast is exactly like that, much better than being stuck cooking it in the van…Surely used like that they are just big frying pans ...
How much?I’ve still got a brand new paella pan, in its protective cover. The Cadac never stayed alight long enough to get it unwrapped.
We’ve not suffered that problem often, unless perhaps when very breezy/windy. Our Cadac is old now (circa 2015), connected to van gas supply if that makes any difference.I’ve still got a brand new paella pan, in its protective cover. The Cadac never stayed alight long enough to get it unwrapped.
