Got one and always have an issue with the flames going out on even the slightest of breeze. I have used foil like the photo to try and shield the side slits from letting the wind in.

Ours is the the same. Almost unsusable, it blows out at the slightest breeze. Any other hints how to keep it alight?

Just saw the age of the thread!
They are South African products and the 'skottel' (dish) became very popular there long before being exported. But people don't usually traipse around in motorhomes from site to site over an extended period. So usage patterns tend to be different. And the 'braai' (barbecue) is almost a religious sacrament and it would be sacrilegious to begrudge the attention that needs to be lavished on the shrine.

I use the paella pan without the wire support. Never gone out yet. If it's really windy then maybe a windbreak nearby, but generally it's fine.

I love ours

We love our Weber Q too, but we removed it from motorhome in favour of the cadac as the locker space saved is... extreme. We used pretty much half a locker for the Weber, versus about 1/8th for the Cadac.

When your lockers are limited it changes your choice. We still take the Weber when we don't take the awning, but if we do take it (we do in the shoulder months, and winter) then we take the Cadac. We use the same gas point for all of em.

Someone must make a better version of the cadac. They are fantastic apart from price, they don’t stay alight, and don’t have an igniter.

The new 40 version has an igniter, the bigger 50 has had one for years.
Is it any better at staying alight though?

No idea but the new design does look less likely to be blown out by the wind.
Interesting. Thanks

The Webber Q is great, but just too big for us to lug about. So are back on the hunt for an outdoor cooker.

After two Safari Chefs I recently bought a Cadac 2 Cook 2 Pro, the one with two square grill plates.£87 delivered from Hamilton Gas Products. I've been using it this week fed from a 500gm canister
Absolutely brilliant!

My carri chef is fantastic. Very old now but has never blown out. Maybe cos it’s hp I don’t know. Our cook 2 pro is fed from the van. Never blown out either.
But would I buy again if either broke; cook 2 pro probz, but doubtful on the carri chef or whatever is the equivalent is now. Just too expensive for an outdoor cooker. If I did, it would defo be hp.

Charcoal v gas. For us charcoal every time BUT quite a few sites in Europe only allow gas now. Climate change/wild fires etc.

We've the Citi Chef 40 which is great except....and its a big except, the grill plate is just rubbish and takes enormous effort to clean. So much for the 'easy clean' ceramic surface......just rubbish ! Why on earth is it so complex a surface....? Apart from that and the lack of heat control as even on its lowest it is as hot as you would want its great.....never blows out, is light and dependable. Speaking as a devout Cobb owner of 14 years or so.......so much so that I've considered and still am considering making the Cobb duel fuel...gas and cinders....!

Love our cadac and the paella pan was the best buy ever!

I’ve still got a brand new paella pan, in its protective cover. The Cadac never stayed alight long enough to get it unwrapped.

We’ve not suffered that problem often, unless perhaps when very breezy/windy. Our Cadac is old now (circa 2015), connected to van gas supply if that makes any difference.
