Bye Bye CAMC

And as a second thought I’ve been a member of CAMC and CC and to be honest I’ve ever only used two sites at the most.

To be honest all my bookings are through pitchup because it’s easy to manage and I find it’s cheaper.

So I’ll not join again and I’ll book my sites independently from now on.

Anybody, and i mean anybody, can have their patience tested after a long day. You’re as likely to meet a grumpy one on a private site as you are on any of the club sites. Ever walked into the toilet block and found most of them messy? And the mess is created by the visitors. i tidy up my mess behind me and would never leave it for the wardens to deal with but it seems that loads do. Walk in their shoes for a week first before harshly judging. Trust me the general public can be a real needy bunch

The only reason we joined the camc again was to qualify for cheaper Mayday breakdown cover for the moho. Mind you, in the last 3 weeks I've saved £53 when buying batteries and a ferry crossing to NI using their discount code from the members offers, so I've more or less got my money bsck.

The wardens seem to be a particular type of person though.....a lot of ex old bill perhaps?

Referring back to the OP, at least your friends from Newcastle parked up safely, but didn't have to pay £35-£40 for the night....I hope
Come on, I am ex Old Bill and wouldnt give or put up with the attitude some wardens meter out.
Stress and strain can cause rudeness but it doesn’t justify it especially in a service industry.

Next to the Norfolk Broads site there is a pub, the Dog Inn. It is only £10 to park on their field, but there is no EHU. They do great food as well.
+1 for The Dog, absolutely fantastic hosts, one year, while a group of us were under canvas in February, they offered the use of their function room to sleep in as it was so cold.

We don't very often use sites but one thing that stands out is rude wardens appear to be a British thing.
On our current trip we have stopped on a camper stop and two sites in Spain on all of them the staff are really friendly and make you feel really welcome such a contrast.

On our little trip round the UK last autumn we stayed on about half a dozen CMC sites. We came across one warden who was a bit miserable but all the rest were delightfully cheerful. They must have caught it from me. :)

As your friends arrived at 9.05pm, I guess that the rules about late arrivals kicked in. Rudeness should never be condoned but the site managers work hard enough and expecting them to still be on duty at that time is expecting a lot.

I've only experienced good wardens but accept there must be occasions when things don't work out as people wish.

My only experience of a problem I had was at Henley when I needed to go to the Community Hospital in the early evening. The wardens offered to take me in their car but I declined as they gave me clear instructions for walking - the hospital is not far from the site. The wardens kept an eye on us the next day. The CH decided to send me to Stoke Mandeville Hospital for treatment. We needed a very early start to meet my appointment. The warden was up early before the site opened to ensure we were leaving on time to get to Aylesbury and to check we had all we needed. SM treated me and then said I was fit to go home to my local hospital. The wardens cancelled our remaining booking that day and refunded the outstanding fees.

Such concern by wardens we expected and were not disappointed. Hardly a stunning example of the excellence of wardens but we rarely have interaction with them when on site; we leave them to get on with their job.

The CMC is not perfect in our eyes but overall, it suits us. I'm sorry Merlin's experience didn't match ours over many years.

Not so much as a real needy bunch but more a real ' entitled' bunch who think as they are on holiday everything should be as they want

You know the ones, they want to arrive early, they want to leave late, they want to park this way not that, they don't like birds in trees or kids with footballs, they leave the toilets a mess, think litter bins should be ignored at all costs, enjoy a laugh and a joke at 2am ( they're on holiday), expect to make encampments with tents, heat their awnings, ignore speed restrictions, enjoy making their dogs bark all day, get upset at campsite shop prices, enjoy having all their mates round for the day's barbeque, get upset when they see a rat and think the place is dirty, expect someone on hand at midnight to reset their electric, assume everyone on the site enjoys listening to David Bowie.....

So let's not tar all wardens as scum, vile, Aldorf, Little Hitlers, old bill types ( whatever that means) as dealing with with these ' entitled' people is enough to test the patience of even the most easy going happy go lucky ' Funster'

That’s not an excuse. They work in hospitality so should at the very least be polite regardless of the circumstances and whether they’ve had a hard day or not.

I disagree . It’s not ok to be rude or unprofessional no matter how bad the day has been. I don’t need to walk in anyones shoes to be able to spot terrible customer service when I see it . The British attitude of never complaining and just excepting poor service is something I don’t buy into .

Trust me with my complaint I went to the top after lots of fobbingoff and still got no where.
And this is always the case .
Anyone remember the voucher scandal ?
Members called up and when attempting to cancel their subscription to the club where given a free site night voucher .Obviously once this became public knowledge the phone lines went into meltdown as hundreds of members attempted to get the free night voucher . CAMC them panicked and stopped issuing the vouchers . They also went a step further and outright called some of their members liars and denied they ever issued the vouchers !
Anyone pointing this out on the CAMC club forum was quickly banned . This is the root of the problem. The CAMC club management are a total disaster.

Personally I do not use the official CMC sites, I find them far too regimented. I do use the CS and CL sites much more informal and the owners have a interest in keeping customers happy and are usually keen to help with the local area and in lots of cases like visitors to show an interest in their farm or business.

It would be good to hear both sides. It’s so easy to criticise, especially when it’s completely one sided. The site manager would probably tell a different version of this.

They are well trained…… So you go to a Site you have been to a dozen times and of course Wardens change but they always ask “ have you stayed here before” the answer being yes lots of times….. and then they always get the blooming site map out and the pen and follow the process of telling you and marking the map…. You are her,the shower block is here, waste point here etc etc and find a pitch and come back and tell us.
Does my stack in 🤯

you are all probably sick of me mentioning i own/run a guest house but ......

I start preparing breakfast at 6.45am and am then available for guests until 9pm, 7 days a week. Some days guests will be checking in later than 9pm especially if delayed by traffic on the notorious A55. As its my business its a case of taking the rough with the smooth when busy, and hope we get happy guests who leave good reviews as a result

However, I can easily imagine that the clubs promote warden jobs as fixed hours, with a cut off time of say 8pm after which the wardens can relax and sit in the evening sun having a relaxing drink. Late check ins for stuck in traffic, flooded shower blocks, tripped electrics, rowdy campers to quieten etc wont ever be mentioned. The clubs wont be paying overtime for any late work so we campers have to rely on the good nature of wardens. The good nature must wear thin on sites where this happens a lot.

Customer service should be good but the systems the clubs run don't seem to have the flexibility to cater for the late night issues. Maybe they should build in a way of recompensing wardens especially for later arrivals. With travel as busy as it is these days, anyone who works a Monday - Friday job must have to restrict themselves to sites no more than an hour from home to have a reasonable chance of making it for 8pm on a Friday night

My favourite is when they tell you where the motorhome service point is ,when you are on a serviced pitch with grey waste drain and a tap for fresh water .🤷🏻‍♂️

Great post. 👍

Three positives from non club sites. One CL - didn't charge us at all for 2 nights just because we got stuck when we went to fill up with water. He towed us out with his tractor.

Non club site in Anglesea - allowed us to leave our motorhome until mid afternoon on check out day - no additional charge.

Maybe non club sites the way to go.
Bit of an over kill... a tractor to pull out an aquaroll!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Have also experienced rude and arrogant wardens, this was the cheddar site. Wrote and complained to the club about his behaviour, they couldn't have cared less.
