Ours were only really ever interested in mice as birds were too much bother, and as far as I'm concerned the more mice cats catch the better as the little b*stards are a bloody nightmare in my workshops, especially over the winter months.

I like dogs don't mind PVC's, it's the poxy owners who can't control them I hate.

The PVC owners are the worst, its perfectly possible to close a sliding door with little noise so why do 90% of them insist on slamming as loud as they can.
I also don't understand why after I have gone to bed at 11/11:30 fifteen minutes later they have to start slamming their door every 15 minutes for the next two hours. And then they start slamming it again at some ungodly hour of 7 or 8 am and waking me up.
We do have to slam our door (just the once) or it does not lock when we go to bed...I am not taking a chance on leaving the van unlocked while we are asleep. Surely its better to slam it once, loudly, about 10.30 and not countless times trying to do it quietly ? If we are ever up as early as 7 or 8, it might get opened, but will not be closed right up while I have the kettle on! We are not all POXY OWNERS!

Point of mine: both working dogs, English springer Spaniels, Flush and retrieve, Still pets that we take abroad, I don’t want anyone to meet my dogs, they aren’t people dogs apart with us and close friends.
Meet us on our daily walks in the Lake District and their usual swimming places taken by the summer hol day trippers, you will get a surprise as they launch themselves into the water, why should I change my routine for the tourists, ain’t happening, selfish? Possibly!
Didn’t notice them doing any work they was just sunbathing😁😁

Oh dear! What did I start☹️230 replies to my post!Neighbour with it’s one yappy dog went home😊😊replaced by one with a barking labrador!
Yeh Right🤔
I for one think you definitely knew🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺😊

I am really shocked at the opinions on dogs here at sites. i read a writeup and quiestionare in caravan club mag that said 40% of owners take their dogs away to camp sites . You have my sympathy if you dont like dogs - and i get it about small yappy things - but if that is their choice.. its still just about a free world - my dog has yet to get drunk and sing or start a bar fight or slam doors loudly. :)

It seems I like dogs more than people, not found many dogs I would like to harm but found plenty of people.

Do feel a bit sorry for anyone who does not like dogs as my 2 Jacks give me and Mrs CC so much pleasure and it’s a bonus they love going away in the van..😁

Recently my son and his partner went away for a week. They have 2 cats and I visited twice a day to feed them etc. On 3 days I was greeted by a dead mouse. Apparently one of them does this regularly and whether it's a mouse or bird it's not always dead.

you saying that reminds me of the wailing and knashing of teeth from the anti wind turbine mob moaning that they kill some birds, and ignoring that cats kill 1000's each year.

I had cow dogs all my life till I finished milking, thought the world of them because they worked their arses off with me, but introduce them to anyone else ,not a chance , and take them on holiday what a laugh ,they would have everyone rounded up in a flash.
Different type of working I guess, lots of mates with farms, wired for rounding up sheep/ cows definitely not house pet or holiday friends, although some of the older ones do get a place in front of the hearth when retired for their loyalty, which makes your comment, what’s the point of dogs v strange🤷‍♀️

We were on a site the other weekend, almost everyone had dogs. We ended up next to the poo pen. That wasn’t an issue in itself. What was, as an example. Two couples with a pair of dogs each. Yapping constantly for 20-30 mins. Whilst they continued to chat . Not outside their caravan BUT OUTSIDE OURS!.

We are on a lovely CL down here in the south of England with just 3 other vans. We are dog sitting and our Grandog barely makes a sound .

Again, at our house in Spain. People put their dogs out to bark day and night. Mental torture for me.

So when im on a site where kids are screaming or couples are arguing thats ok but cos my dogs are alerting me someones near my van its not ok.
I would be on high alert if I reacted to a dog barking on a campsite, many do bark at moving leaves, squirrels and anything else that moves it would be so exhausting, why on earth do you need alerting someone is near your van? surely people walk past all time, which would mean your dogs bark all the time.

For me I prefer to be more Zebra and chill unless there is immediate danger ;)

No, not ban dogs, ban inconsiderate owners.

You could get annoyed about loads of stuff, loud parties on site, slamming doors, arriving late, running the engine few minutes before driving off, Smokey barbecues, kids running round all over and don’t even mention generators.

So ban dogs but ban panel vans side door whoosh bangers, there you’re banned chaser, you’re in there somewhere.
You forgot tractor owners CazPaul :giggle:

John.

We've never been on a site where there weren't barking dogs!! Our dog just chills very quietly and doesn't bother to bark at anyone. Last weekend we were on a site in Devon to 2 couples next to us that had made a corral with windbreaks for their 4 yappy does that barked at everything. We were woken early by one of them running around our pitch followed by the owner hollering at it.
When we walked across the site to go to the dog walking area 80% of the dogs on the pitches barked madly as we went past along with their owners shouting at them.
We don't worry ourselves about it but do wonder why people don't train them not to bark, it's very easy to do.
I suspect it's because most dogs aren't excersised enough and that causes boredom and then that results in a barking habit. They are usually the dogs that are never let off the leads on walks because, again, they haven't been trained well and it compounds the dogs frustration.
I am surprised sites don't insist dogs are kept quiet for the most part, but there we go.

cus you answered it yourself - bad owners that cant control them/wont - but to be fair - some little dogs just yap when they breath :)

??!!!
Really? One a months? Unfortunately my cat leaves around 3 to 4 bodies in the house a night, brings in several live ones during the day. The bell and colourful collar has helped a bit…loads of moles (dead and alive, boy are they strong little buggers), rabbits, moorhens( both alive) wood pigeons and of corse voles and shred. I hate that aspect of cats. But he also kills rats which is one of the primary reasons we have him.

What do pets say about people then? 😳😆
