Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
Which 12v socket did you plug into? The cab/dashboard one or a supplementary one in the hab area?
Maybe you have just blown the 12v socket fuse.
How have you checked to find that the starter battery is flat? From the 'Anxiety panel' meter reading? Test meter on battery terminals? Engine won't turn over?

I agree the battery sounds knackered. On the plus side, if it can’t cope with a simple tyre inflation, it was probably near knackered anyway.

Can you plug into electric somehow so it charges the cab battery to get you home or at least to a garage to get it sorted?

12v socket in kitchen. Cab battery was showing 11.4 now gone upto 12 but wont start. Nothing comes on then all needles flicker on dials and nothing else.

But surely the 12v in the kitchen runs of the hab not the engine battery?

Needles flickering is classic signs of a flat engine battery.

I bought the Vanhaus one and the battery doesn’t seem to hold it’s charge - so not always ready but it does have the 12v lead to plug in (with engine running!)

It is a good unit but like you say battery doesn't hold it's charge, I always charge it before a trip, eaiser than using the 12v lead. Also recharge after using it.

Sat waiting for recovery cant see them having a battery we are in France heading to Spain . If he just jump starts will we be ok or do we need a new battery to continue
If it is just a one off and something has drained the battery you will probably get away with it . If the battery is more than 4 years old probably worth replacing.

How is your starter battery charged when you are parked up, solar, Batterymaster etc.?

If you get stuck again you can run a cable between both battery positives to get some charge from the hab battery into the starter battery.

In France Norauto are good for batteries. A sort of French Halford. They had a starter battery for us when ours started heating and smelling a few weeks back. Fitted it too in spite of it being under a seat and a sod to get at.

The van haus one holds charge fine if you remove the battery when you're not using it will then hold charge for months.

That’s a pain! On the bright side, at least you know now. :-(

Which one have you got? Thinking about getting one for tyres and awning. Saves cables trailing about, keys in ignition ETC always like a recomendation with these sort of things:giggle:

many many years! since I was a kid
Especially with the more powerful 12v compressors it is essential to run the engine when pumping up tyres. They draw a high current and barely work below 13v. So you need the alternator to be charging

We carry a Ring compressor but it needs to be connected to a 12v supply to work. We are likely to fit rear air assist later this year, hoping that I can fit some sort of air take off point from the permanently fixed compressor so I don't have to carry two compressors.

So breakdown recovery not coming back with a battery, they have closed the job and not told us. Using site contacts for mechanics. The battery is showing 13% on the gauge but i have no confidence in it so going to replace it.

The battery needs replacing, they usually break all of a sudden with no warning.

Annoying they didn’t tell you.

I remember a mate had one fail about 10 years back in France, the replacement wasn’t cheap but he was stuck and we were in the middle of the Alps in summer main holidays so there wasn’t much choice.
