Avro energy collapsed

The standing charge covers amongst other things the running of the networks (not the generation side of things). There's a whole lot more to it than the bit of pipe running to your house. The gas has to be filtered, pressurised and pumped through a countrywide network, there's a whole raft of gas transfer stations across the country which all need regular maintenance, Leaks need fixing and pipes need replacing. Similar thing with the Electricity transmission towers, Cables, transmission and distribution sub-stations (inc transformers, Switchgear) all need maintaining and improving as demand increases. Trust me a 400kV supergrid transformer isn't cheap and you can't buy one off the shelf.

I have to service my van and buy new kit.

That comes from the money I charge not an extra charge on top of my wage.

This is what I pay on a fixed rate with Octopus but prices will go up.

Out of curiosity I inputted my yearly figures into Ebico and got the below.

Fell off my bloody chair.

There are tariffs with no standing charge. Or certainly there were - I don't know if they're still available.
Possibly, but it probably only suits 0.0001% of the population, and is fiendishly difficult to comprehend, so they have that base covered as well.
Heads they win tails you lose.
Mike.
I don’t think you can get any such contracts now. We used to use this type because we were away from home so many months but Ofgem Put paid to that a long time ago. My new bill will be over £500 more a year!
You could get a 'no standing charge' tariff up until July 2020 for certain as we had one with Ebico for our empty rental bungalow which saved us about £15 a month.

Just heard a report on Radio 4 with a minister. It seems the underlying opinion is that gas is just to cheap :whatthe:, at least when compared to electric.
So it seems we can probably assume that gas will be subjected to one of the election slogans, and have a good dose of levelling up, to be comparable with electric.
Additionally, air source heat pumps, if you financially flush enough to afford them almost certainly require new radiators, + pipework so as to give an even vague chance of meeting the current output when fired from old fashioned gas boilers.
Mike.

Update: got my ‘final statement’ from Igloo yesterday (17/12) which shows that my credit of £258.56 has been transferred to E.ON………..

We got ours on Monday (13th) and all appears as it should be. I expect it’s a great deal of work for Octopus. Also noticed the DD on our account has changed to Octopus from AVRO.
We are just having a little bother because Octopus think we have two gas meters and are having trouble connecting to our gas meter. This stems back to NPower not registering it properly, Eon not getting to the bottom of it when they took over NPower, then AVRO when we changed, now Octopus are trying to sort it.
Its a bit of a crawl to the back of the under stairs cupboard to read it.

Ok folks if you are looking to change energy provider you could try Ecotricity, they will not be the cheapest but neither are they the dearest, they are started as an eco energy generator are british owned and run.

DO NOT CHANGE SUPPLIER AT THE MOMENT!!! If you do you will be paying more than staying put due to the price cap ... ask Martin Lewis if you don't believe me!

Indeed but if your company has collapsed and forced to change then there is no Cap and worth reviewing with others (I am not saying change but review)

I think you'll find that there is still a cap ... this has been talked about specifically by ML on several occasions.

When our tariff runs out next year we will have to look and using Martin Lewis all the new tariffs are 4 X the present one.

The way things are going, there will not be a lot of suppliers to chose from.
Maybe the re-nationalisation of energy should be considered?
There is something in that. Have to decide if things like gas, rail etc are a service or a buisness.

There may well be the Government Cap but I can assure you as an Ecotricity customer my charges have risen twice in the past period, they state that there is one price for every customer. My understanding (and I could be wrong) is that many of the other companies have a fixed price contract with their customers so that customers know what £ the bills will be for 12/18/24 months for example

Just wait for the BT split / takeover yet another British company that is ripe for the picking by overseas Organisations

You may well pay more, the cap is on the maximum amount they can charge for each unit of energy and each standing charge, it's not a cap on the total amount you'll pay.

Yes you will get fixed price contracts elsewhere but they will be above the price cap unit and standing charge costs so you will have the benefit of having a set monthly bill but will pay much more for that privilege, anyone doing this would be nuts IMV.

agreed but if some have been affected it would be worth reviewing

and here is a nice video from them

Our electric contract is due for renewal on 30th December they have offered us the standard tariff @ £56 a month or 3 year fixed @£77 a month guess which one we picked.
Glad I listened to Martin Lewis when he said choose a standard tariff and don’t tie into a fixed.

Hetties crew, octopus have me down as having two gas meters too, theyve managed totake over and sort electric out ,but not the gas,i wonder if its because avro installed smart meters just before they went bust?its a very fancy app for octopus im sure ill get used to it🤷‍♀️ Very striking

All the ones on Martin Lewis we was looking at all insisted on a smart meter, not got one at present , on top of very expensive fuel.

I’ve emailed them with the numbers of the old and new gas meters and the date the old one was removed. I suspect it’ll be awhile before they get around to sorting it.

I emailed Octopus last Tuesday as I still haven’t been able to set up an online account.

Yesterday I had a reply saying that they had not received my details from Avro yet.

I am keeping a big chunk of money aside for my first bill. 🤪

"I am keeping a big chunk of money aside for my first bill"

You will need it. It came as a shock to pay top price after being with Avro for four years!

Quite agree Minxy our contract with OVO ran out last October and we stayed with them on their standard flexible tariff and are paying a lot less than if on fixed rates.😊
