Rally [Aug 6, 2015] Bristol Balloon Fiesta Funster Rally. (Brsitol)

@Trikeman
You are doing a marvellous job trying to keep us all organised, much appreciated :)

"Trying" being the operative word Debs.

Poor old terry - he has now opened the site to the 'great unwashed' and he is up to his neck in it, so it was excellent he let us 'get in there first'. Once he's ready we will try to get the site plan sorted so we can get the area we want, that's one thing he promised to sort for us and ensure we get where we want - that will come just a little later.

Enjoying the madness of it all though, everyone has seriously been great, wasn't too sure if this would take off initially but it looks like we have a core of funsters who love to have fun - which is brilliant and I have no doubt, rain or shine, this will be a scream.
:clap2:

Really looking forward to it now.

Regards,

Trikeman.

Yes this is the 'Bassetts' very first 'rally/event:eek: ever and we are looking forward to it too!(y)

I don't doubt it will be a brillo soap pads meet, not least of all because everyone seems so nice! I hope the legend that is Terry will be there to receive our thanks and alcohol in equal measure!

Hi, we are new to Fun and rallying. We are sending off the booking form today, but notice that the pitch size is 6m x 6m. At 7.5 m is this going to be a problem?

Trikeman has said that the club uses the sizes given for 'guidance'. Many of the vans attending are considerably bigger.........as in 9 metres.(y)

Think that is just to put off general camping having huge tents as was mentioned somewhere on here before plus think some others with motorhomes that size are already booked in but sure Trikeman will confirm :)

As close as I'm getting this w/end lol

Is there any more spaces
Trikeman (Fun rally organiser) will be able to advise on this but he might not be online at the moment. Think the deadline was Friday but if you are quick it might be worth posting the form (mark "Funster" & forum name on top too) & cheque anyway?! See Link Removed. If confirmed by email from Terry then you need to post on here so Trikeman can add to the list.

Hi Tessntim,

If you have completed your form and sent it to Terry then there's a chance he can squeeze you in. Although we are 'maxing out' with the Funsters area, I will have a chat with him on Monday to see if we can sort something - the bookings are open to the public now and a deluge has been received.

Regards,

Trikeman.(y)

Hi LaMB,
as confirmed by my learned friends above, the size is for 'guidance',,,,, well a deterrent actually to the mega euro tents that turned up last year which seem to cover 1/2 acre by themselves. You are OK with the MoHo.

Trikeman. (y)

Cracking photo Debs, (y)
just see Clifton suspension bridge above your head and slightly left. Behind you and round the corner (Cumberland Basin) overflowed on the last couple of nights as the mahoosive super tides came up the Avon and pushed back up towards/into the city and the Severn bore went hurtling up the rivers, quite a sight.

Regards,

Trikeman. ;)

Morning, wow......wish we'd have realised, we'd have gone for a wander as I'd seen postings yesterday about the bore and Les thought that it must affect Bristol somehow.
Whenever we've been we've driven in under the suspension bridge along the estuary and it's looked mainly mud....

We've taken our boat down the Avon and out into the Channel many times, and although you have to be a maths genius to work the tides out (or that's what it seemed like to a landlubber like me) - but when the tide is in and the river is up it is a beautiful trip. (y) The boat always had to be cleaned when we got back though to get the Bristol Channel mud off of it though!

It can be quite scary too, the Bristol Channel incoming tide speed. I have seen small boats off Sand Point (Weston Super Mare) with their engines flat out against the tide, but slowly going backwards relative to the shoreline.
:Eeek:
Can be a dangerous place with the tides and how fast they come in/go out. A certain German 'U' boat could have testified to that..........
They thought it would be a good idea to sneak up the channel to Avonmouth, sink a ship in the mouth entrance and that would cock up Bristol for a while. However, they didn't do the homework on how fast the tide goes out and how high the sandbanks are - dear, oh dear.

Regards,

Trikeman.

Really like to see the tide in :) (Sad, moi?) we'll have to consult the tide tables for August(y)

@Trikeman
:Eeek: Les will be googling later for the story, cheers.:)

Really ought to look out one of the walking tours when we're here again. It'll be such a shame if this site does finish in August.:(

Have taken a narrowboat out of Sharpness docks, moored at Portishead during the tide change, then on into The Floating Dock. A bit hairy, but great fun. :)
We've sat on the mud at Portishead many times, before they put the lock gates in - we came down the severn in a little 22ft boat, in very good conditions, sat on the mud, then went out, 6 hours later, wind against tide, from Portishead into Bristol and really thought we were going to die...... - never been so scared in all my life!

Will try to remember to bring some photos of the river Avon from our boat! Another adventure we had was going down the river in a group and a couple of speedsters passed us at a very fast pace - the wake they created bounced against the shore on both sides and came back at us side on, we nearly capsized! Our boating friends were obviously waterborne funsters..... there was no sympathy- all we got was - we all saw it and we can tell you now that your antifoul is good for another year!

We got that on the River Trent, water skiers trying to turn our narrowboat over, and not coming far from succeeding. They only backed off when I got the air rifle out.

It was always my desire to range fire a Webley Mars, but never got the opportunity. :(

Ha - its only on Motorhome Fun that we can get from a 'gentle' cool breeze across a wonderful sun clad balloon festival weekend, through death defying boat trips to automatic revolvers......

Sheesh - I don't think Bristol will ever be ready for the Funsters....

Regards,

Trikeman (and one hell of a scared one at that).:Eeek:
