Are the Germans destroying wild camping in Spain?

You'll never find me on a caravan club site 😁

I'm certainly not rubbishing a whole nation they make excellent cars and motorhomes, their beer isn't bad either.

But I'm afraid from quite a lot of years experience myself they do seem to be pretty arrogant and cheeky when it comes to off site parkups. And it's not just brits who notice it.

I've heard many other nations , French , Belgians and even the Dutch comment on why the Germans need such big machines and why they have to be parked so close to the sea they are practically in it.

I've not found one who does it friendly enough to ask them why . But Greece is currently full of them , many parked in the Same spots for months on end

Well I have little bit of experience with motorhomes and motorhoming over the years and whilst I definitely had brilliant times in earlier years, I still have plenty of excellent times in my van now and fully expect to have even more enjoyable times in the future.

But then, parking up off-site with lots of other motorhomes on beaches no longer features on my "to do list". It did earlier but not now.

These days I like to potter about from one favourite spot to another knowing what I will find at each one and I love having the comfort and familiar surroundings of my very own home with me wherever I choose to spend some time.

Motorhoming hasn't been spoilt for me.

I remember being told back in the 60s that there is a major cultural differences between France and the UK. In the UK we drive into towns to use the public toilets, in France you drive out of them to avoid them.

In defence of the Germans, it seems the Dutch have just edged it this year for us. We witnessed more Dutch being complete bell ends.....is Holland inhabited by traffic wardens and car park attendants cause they all seem to think that's what they are?

First time ever we came across a fair few Spanish vans in Germany last year, on one free park up in a remote German village a Spanish van parked very close to me and I had trouble opening the door😳😳 he then got out and looked around looked at me and see I had the look on me that said I wanted to stab him for being such a knob 😁😁 he then moved over about 6ft into the middle of the bays.
The other 2 vans with him then took 2 attempts to park up, the last attempt they blocked in a few vans parked in the bays🤔🤔

I had a few years over in Germany with the forces and had a great time, no problems mixing with them at all, always a good laugh and friendly.
We've been across to Greece a few times in the van and something seems to happen to a lot of them when they get in a motorhome, a lot tend to think its their god given right to have the best spots to the disadvantage of others.
I was parked up at a beach once and a German overlander came in, we had a spot overlooking the sea, you guessed it, he parked right in front of our view, came over and asked if we minded him parking there, I think he got the gist from our reply and moved having a bit of a moan, he still had a sea view though. I tied to break the ice with him later but he kept dropping sarky comments about our disagreement.
Later on the local were trying to were to pull a boat out of the water in the bay with a tractor and they got stuck, everyone was down there trying to help, us included. Herman was just watching from the distance so I went and suggested he might be able to help with his 4x4 and winch, he just shrugged and said. 'if they come and ask, I might consider it', he never did go and help.

What a nob, glad to see the back of him, apparently on his way Persia, I just hope he got stuck himself somewhere on his travels.

They're not all like that of course, but there does seem to be more about nowadays.

I’m learning Spanish, comments like yours does help me learn new phrases! Thank you. Keep it up.

Yep they can sure hold a grudge I've had several looks this morning from the 3 I told to feck off last night.

The Mazarron coast is now "Little Germany". Comments on P4N from fellow Germans, Spanish and French, are not very complimentary.

Apparently, it's the place to go to brush up on your German language skills.

It's part of the coastline that's supposed to be cleared. So far only the Percheles area has been addressed.

I think the Germans are not as efficient nor make as good a product as people make out. The Mercedes is so out dated now, it just harps back to the 1980s when it was one of the better cars, the BMW as a car is Ok but compare these two motors like for like with vehicles in cost and content with other models and you get a lot less for your money.
My 2.0 ltr Diesel Ford Edge Vignale 2017 @£39k new, has more power, is faster, has been more reliable, does more mpg, is more comfortable and cheaper to run, has a better paint job, has better leather interior, has a better sound system, is quieter, and has a lot more equipment than its equivalent £39k BMW, the paint job is better, the adaptive lighting is better, has more storage, has lane keeping and preemptive braking, it’s 10 times better than the BMW it’s also held its value. I like my BMW, it’s a fun car, but my edge has it all, I even think my new LHD Seat Ateca is better than the BMW and Mercedes I tried first in Spain last year.. so again I have a Fiat based Moho, I tried a Mercedes base Moho out at Stafford and I was not impressed.

The Germans are a little misunderstood, they sound aggressive but tend not to be, they have a self entitlement and can be overpowering, this is their mummy’s fault, older Germans have a lot of complex issues, they did cause the worst atrocity in human history, that’s a lot to have to live with, so they mollycoddle their kids. They are growing older now and just can’t seem to stop being entitled.
I have noticed the 25-45 year old British are becoming similar. In 20 years they’ll be insufferable!..
By which time I’ll have pushed up a lot of daisies!.

It's weird when you see so much money spent on RVs........... that are long term camping on carparks. I think the mentality is that rental would be 'money wasted' whereas the van is 'an investment'. True in principle, but the sums involved just don't make sense.
Anyhow I am surrounded in Western Sahara tonight by Germans who are the polar opposite, in good cheer and getting tents out cars. Nice crowd.

I do use Car Parks and Aires of all descriptions in many different settings, but only as overnight stays en route to a final destination, (or when at a final destination while out exploring the area) where it will be a campsite with facilities. The beauty of a Moho is it’s a travelling hotel room with cooking and bathroom facilities. It is a safe life style choice relying on your own cooking and cleaning.
I find touring is great but there comes a time to land at a great campsite and chill out for a week or two or more. I have made some great friends at camp sites over many years.

We stay on the campsite at Bolnuevo this year were parked up by a lovely German couple, who were quite scathing about some of their compatriots.
Worst nationality we have come across is the Dutch, only nationality we have heard staff complaining about.

I can't say that the Germans here are bad people, it's just that they are here in overwhelming numbers, and some of their countryfolk have also been scathing about them in conversations with us.

We have some lovely Dutch relatives, friends and neighbours (not the same group), and they are all so different to the stereotype of the Dutch as a nation.

Same as Brits have the stigma as being drinkers, I suppose 😂

The problem here is the sheer number of motorhomes, free camping along the coast. The white vans are the problem, not what their registration says.

The nicest people we met on our recent 5 weeks in France were two Germans and an Austrian ,everyone is different ,most people who meet me want to burn me at the stake🤪

Some of that nationality have put 'exclusion zones' around their van at my currrent aire (Dakhla). That's a new one to me and a bit out of order. If it's not too busy everyone naturally spreads out. If it busy are people really expected to turn away to preserve their free space?

On our apartment block where I am the President, we have just had new owners arrive from Germany...we also have Scots, Dutch. Norwegian, Danish, Swedish,Spanish and a couple from Liverpool...(I know)
The German couple are the most respectful and polite to me...and in return they receive help and advice on various aspects of community living and local places to visit.
However the behaviour we see on the nearby coastline is somewhat disturbing...
Selfishness is quite evident, respect for the country they visit and the people who live here is clearly lacking..

It's all getting a bit too much to tolerate and personally its taken the edge off Spain for us. It might be a different story if you're on a site, but we haven't done any sites and have just wild camped (responsibly) or stopped at the odd Aire here and there, cause we want to travel around and see Spain.
Not much fun this year and I have to be honest, I've told a few D and NL's to f##k right off, but who needs the ag when you're supposed to be relaxing?

To be honest I felt like that too, I may skip staying in Spain for the winter and go straight over to Morocco or somewhere else, one possibility is going to Spain in the shoulder months when the snowbirds have gone home or before they arrive…🤔

What's the matter with the people from Liverpool?

Personally I will avoid the coasts in Spain from now on and stick to the more inland spots , much nicer and much easier to find a good park up imo.
Excellent post= good advice!

I am heading over to Spain and Portugal now. I just hope all the German and Dutch conspiracy theorists have gone. Drove me nuts last year 🤪
