Are the Germans destroying wild camping in Spain?

I agree with you that we've had the very best of motorhoming. No matter what country you motorhome in, the hordes have descended and have made things so much more difficult.

On the plus side, there are more official places than there used to be, but there are tooooo many more people wanting to use these places.

There will NEVER be a solution to suit us all.

After getting my new motor on April 4th and departing May 1st, been on 2 return crossings to Santander and 1 return to Calais, travelled through Europe for 5 months in total and had 1 week Cornwall, 9 days Loch Lomond and Whitby, my findings are totally opposite, the Campsites have been full at the weekends, practically empty through the week, the Aires mostly 1/2 full at the weekends and only a couple during the week.
In the UK almost everywhere was full or had very few spaces. What I had noticed was the lack of eateries open anywhere except major towns so cooking was done a lot!. Many campsites were closed by mid September in Europe, places I stayed at before shut down early for year end. So unusual.
The main complaint I heard was “the Brits are just not here” “it’s the Brits who fill our site”
I think this is why the EU are considering changing the rules, Covid and Brexit is hurting their pocket and this causes discontent. The Dutch and French are asking for a referendum on membership, as are the Greeks and Austrians. The next 5 years will see big changes.
I’ve done my max time in Europe for 22/23, I next go April, May & June, October, November & December, With July and August holidaying in the UK. September at rest at home..

And it was very rarely a problem prior to the last 5-8 years , I spent all my holiday time prior to 2016 off site parking around the North of Scotland and the islands , never once encountering any animosity. But motorhoming and vanlife etc has become increasingly popular. Partly fuelled by the political paths countries have taken. There are way more fulltimers nowadays than there's ever been. The problem will just get worse unfortunately.
Yes, when we started 20 years ago. Motorhoming was a little different.

There were some van lifers. Not that many though.
We were often the only motorhome on a ferry
We were sometimes the only motorhome on a caravan site.
Travellers didn’t have motorhomes
Having a foreign motorhome or LHD in the UK was not very common and LHD were usually old VW’s or RV’s
Lots of things have changed. What I have noticed that I don’t like, is not the Brits so much.

It’s the German, Belgian , French and modt annoying (for me) the Dutch. who think they have a god given right to set up camp wherever they feel they may like.

I'm afraid that's the current way it's gone...no consideration for others, no compliance with the rules or regulations....
We find that avoiding the areas that attract the hoards remains our priority....last night...only us... quiet situation...no harm done, off again later, didn't foul the area, have no plans to stay here for two weeks, a month or even the winter....
Unfortunately our rules don't suit everyone just a few...the ones that care..

There is a fine line between being a motorhomer and a traveller when wild camping and it’s all down to leaving the place as you found it, disposing of your waste correctly and paying your way.
The majority of people resent travellers. They see them as dirty thieves, paying no bills or contributions to society, yet drive around in uninsured, untaxed £100k kits like they own the place.
The motorhomer on the other hand (in general), pays their way, drives a insured, taxed & mot’d unit, disposes of their waste and litter and heads for beaches, valley’s and stunning countryside, contributing to the economy of the area they visit.
Unfortunately the bad traveller causes the motorhomer to be tarred with the same brush. And the none motorhomer ie general public then resents the genuine motorhomer.

I'm parked up at a little beach in Greece tonight . Been here most of the day and not another camper in sight . 7pm and 3 German vans turn up together . I have all my curtains, blinds etc closed , dinner cooking and watching TV... knock on the door and one of the girls from the campers asking me if I can move my van over as they want to park together next to the beach so they can have a fire . I said no , I'm not moving now , it's dark I have my van set up for overnight, I'm cooking etc and it's too much hassle ,and besides there's plenty room where they are. She goes away disgruntled... 10 minutes later she's back with 2 others in tow again asking me to move...and now the guy is saying we were parked here a few days ago blah blah blah we want to park in the same place.

This time I wasn't so polite...they've been told to feck off.

I can't believe the cheek of some on wild spots. As it is there's no camping signs scattered around here and it's a busy wee road with locals going past . You get away with being parked etc ... but always some that have to take the piss.

That would have really pissed me off on the second time they came knocking …:boxing::boxing:

Yep the cheeky cow says " ill help you to pack things away in your van if you can just move" "we really want to park together so we can have a fire on the beach"

To which I replied ...then you should have arrived earlier.

If I arrive somewhere I've been before and my favourite spot is taken I would never have the audacity to go knocking on doors asking someone to.move.

What kind of entitled spoilt arsehole does that?

And what difference does it make to have a fire on the beach that they aren’t parked together…🤔🤷🏼‍♂️

They're Germans.... they have an obsession with parking right on the feckin beach.
And you can guarantee if there was 6 spaces on the beach they would take the lot🤬🤬 every trip we make in the van we seem to dislike the Germans a bit more!
We have met some lovely ones but there seems to be more inconsiderate German vans around lately☹️☹️

Remember when your at a caravan club site and people are irritating you they’ll be English it isn’t just Dutch or French or German. Ive been travelling over 50 years and when I’ve had a problem I’ve sorted them out without rubbishing the whole nation.

Who's rubbishing the whole nation, I think that you will find it is the particular type of motorhome of those nations that are being referred to unless you are reading something different to me !!

That’s what we try and do.

I wonder how many of the sea front campers, take in the view. Or is it they are just attracted to the sea ?

You'll never find me on a caravan club site 😁

I'm certainly not rubbishing a whole nation they make excellent cars and motorhomes, their beer isn't bad either.

But I'm afraid from quite a lot of years experience myself they do seem to be pretty arrogant and cheeky when it comes to off site parkups. And it's not just brits who notice it.

I've heard many other nations , French , Belgians and even the Dutch comment on why the Germans need such big machines and why they have to be parked so close to the sea they are practically in it.

I've not found one who does it friendly enough to ask them why . But Greece is currently full of them , many parked in the Same spots for months on end

All she needed to say was you had parked on top of her towel. 😀

I would have said, I’ve just started cooking and will be eating first, but once I’ve finished eating and washed the dishes and put things away I’ll knock on your van. Yeah! Where’s your van, what’s your name! When she came back a few hours later, I would have said, didn’t you understand me, I said, I’ve just started cooking and will be eating first, but once I’ve finished eating and washed up and put things away I’ll knock on your van, yeah! Where’s your van and what’s your name!. Did you not understand my English? When she said yes, but I thought you said you would move, I’d say yes after I’ve cooked and eaten, washed up and put things away, I’ll knock on your van. But I won’t be cooking my breakfast, will I, if you keep knocking on my door, at this rate it will take me another day just to cook my breakfast if I’m forever getting disturbed. Now please go away so I can cook my breakfast, eat my breakfast in the morning, wash my cutlery and crockery and put things away. Good night!

They take the piss it's a big difference from just parking overnight to staying for months and putting out tables, chairs, extra vehicles and fecking putting out pot plants as well to create their own little garden, unbelievable!!!

Have to say the worst conduct we’ve seen is from the French.
Had a go at a Frenchman who thought it was acceptable to rinse his cassette out at the beach showers 🤬🤬🤬

They are well known for that sort of behaviour. Once saw a vid of someone filming a woman just pulling her pants down and peeing on a garage forecourt in France, although to be fair can't prove she was French, she may have been English 🤣

I've had a go at few of them rinsing their cassettes out under the drinking water tap on Aires.
