I agree with you that we've had the very best of motorhoming. No matter what country you motorhome in, the hordes have descended and have made things so much more difficult.
On the plus side, there are more official places than there used to be, but there are tooooo many more people wanting to use these places.
There will NEVER be a solution to suit us all.
After getting my new motor on April 4th and departing May 1st, been on 2 return crossings to Santander and 1 return to Calais, travelled through Europe for 5 months in total and had 1 week Cornwall, 9 days Loch Lomond and Whitby, my findings are totally opposite, the Campsites have been full at the weekends, practically empty through the week, the Aires mostly 1/2 full at the weekends and only a couple during the week.
In the UK almost everywhere was full or had very few spaces. What I had noticed was the lack of eateries open anywhere except major towns so cooking was done a lot!. Many campsites were closed by mid September in Europe, places I stayed at before shut down early for year end. So unusual.
The main complaint I heard was “the Brits are just not here” “it’s the Brits who fill our site”
I think this is why the EU are considering changing the rules, Covid and Brexit is hurting their pocket and this causes discontent. The Dutch and French are asking for a referendum on membership, as are the Greeks and Austrians. The next 5 years will see big changes.
I’ve done my max time in Europe for 22/23, I next go April, May & June, October, November & December, With July and August holidaying in the UK. September at rest at home..
