A photo of the outside from Inside

Our favourite wild camping spot in the South Island. So secret I can't tell you where it is except it’s in the Catlins. It’s reached after six kilometers of gravel road which bring you to an isolated sandy beach with cliffs to one side and rocks covered in mussels on the other.
We park on grass that’s kept mown by a mob of sheep (that’s the one disadvantage - sheep poo everywhere) and we’re literally a stone’s throw from the beach. The view changes every minute. It’s entertaining to watch the surfers, the fishermen, the sea kayakers, dogs running around, bird life, NZ sealions, etc. A fellow camper got us some Paua (abalone) which he cooked in butter - delicious. No cellphone, no internet, just peace and quiet. Bliss.
I am prepared to reveal the name of this little bit of Paradise to the first person who travels to NZ for a motorhome holiday.

movan and Otterspotter - the “walrus” is actually a New Zealand Sea Lion and, yes, they are big. This one wobbled up to within 30m of our motorhome each morning and evening, had a sniff and then wobbled back into the sea. There are signs on the beach warning you not to go within 10m of them and the couple in the photo tried to avoid him by standing perfectly still but he went right up to them. The poor couple were quite scared but he just sniffed them and then went back into the water.
As for the spear fisherman, I’m not sure what he was hunting.

I think I would have frozen with fear. Yikes. Have read they are quite aggressive at times. :)

Nobody's in their vans to take any pictures, unless it's driveways or storage places!

KiwiKampers needs to get out more to keep me happy
TBH I was in two minds whether I should post photos on here. I didn’t want to appear to be gloating about being able to travel. I am very aware of the frustration and, indeed, pain, of those who can’t use their motorhomes. There isn’t a day goes by when I don’t count my blessings and think of those struggling in these circumstances. ❤️

Don’t give it a second thought.

If we are anything to go by your pictures are very welcome. You live in such a beautiful area.

Don’t even think about not posting pics on here of New Zealand or me and you are going to fall out. ::bigsmile: (y)

I always want to jump into the water on your photos...... but worry if there are crocodiles??? :(
No crocs and no alligators in NZ and we have nothing that is seriously venimous either. We don’t have any snakes - not even in the zoos. All the nasty stuff is across The Ditch in Australia.
Having said that, there were some very large Eagle Rays and Stingrays in the Marlborough Sounds last weekend and we have had one or two shark attacks this summer.
