It’s a location with a sad history. Just above the lifeboat station on the cliff is the past holiday home of the Stein family - Rick Stein, TV chef, spent his boyhood summers here. His father, an executive of the Distillers Company was involved with marketing ‘Thalidomide’ and committed suicide by throwing himself off the cliff.

The old black and white place is our hotel. It was built for and by Mt Lyle of the Tate & Lyle outfit, very grand and on the river.

No motor home services (other than waste bins, which we were parked close to - must check when bin emptying day is before visiting again) but lovely pub food and some great dog walks - we did an 8 mile loop on Wednesday which tired both us and the dogs!

Ok a bit of a cheat, it’s not a today photo but it came up on our Alexa photo stream. Taken in January 2012, at Vinaros in Spain. We we staying just down the road at Camping Algeria in Benicarlo. It’s not enhanced in any way, taken on a Fuji Finepix of that era.

This morning a lovely sunny but cold calm day, SW Northumberland looking out across Vindolanda Roman Fort and surrounds, Hadrian's Wall running along the hilltops to the North. Such a privilege to live
