Another beautiful day in Ciren……

Steadily making our way around the southeastern coast of Crete and tonight’s park up is in Kato Zákros.

Just the three tavernas on the beach and they all offer free parking and limited services. Based on food recommendations alone we’ve chosen the one with the empty sloping field - which is giving the E&P system a good workout!

To get here we rode the usual switchback mountain roads through the Cretan Badlands.

I'm about 75m from the beach.
There are also on the beach pitches.

There was a digger moving sand on the beach , replacing sand which had washed away.
Nice place, £25 / night with ehu etc.

Not my photo , copied and pasted from another forum , not sure if it's a marathon going on or what .. but I thought it was great photo of the Millau bridge from an unusual angle

Is that the Leaning Tower of Pisa?😁
Not quite, but part of an ancient Roman city. It’s a World Heritage site and the basilica has an extremely well preserved mosaic floor dating back to the 11th century - worth a visit if you’re into archaeology

No internet for the last few days so a couple of late pics from our French tour.

We used the “Caliche” to visit the Ile de Madame just off the coast of the Charente Estuary at Port des Barques. It is only accessible by causeway at low tide.

After two nights at Kato Zákros, and far too much to eat and drink at the superb Taverna Akrogiali on the beach, we’re on the move again. Target for today is Mochlos on the northeast coast of Crete.

It’s there left of centre opposite the island, which has yet more Minoan ruins on it.

And a very amenable place it is too - free parking next to the sea.

And a busy centre with a good selection of tavernas and cafes to choose from.

The coast is quite rocky hereabouts, but if we can scope out a decent swimming spot it’ll be tempting to stay a couple of nights

Oops, nearly forgot. Cretan Chapel and icon (St Nickolas?) in the village.

Visiting the small village of Grenade sur l’Adour. Nice square with a couple of bars, a Supermarket but little other Commerce. It appears that COVID might have taken its toll on a nice, small community.
