A photo of the day thread

More Cyprus.

A visit to the “Tombs of the Kings”, Paphos. No real royal connection, rather the resting places of wealthy citizens, around 100AD.

Beachside park up at Kiyllini, Peloponnese. Zakinthos in the background. The Esther Williams tribute act informs me that the water is warmer than the best U.K. summer temperature.

I’m not far behind you guys, Athens with its famous Acropolis
We’ve got another 7 days going anti clockwise around the Peloponnese, then the ferry from Piraeus for a month on Crete. Will visit Athens on the way back. Any decent stopovers there?

Other than what you can see on P4N logged in, nothing really, we moving down towards Corinth today.

Quite boring in comparison, but tonights FLT parkup enroute to Yorkshire. Nice clean area, no litter, which is amazing in this day and age and 2 large bins with clean fresh bags in 👍🏻

We are on our last full day in a four star+ hotel. We are due to start a six week m/h tour of France in just over two weeks and can’t wait to “do our own thing”.

Our hotel itself is good, attractive and immaculately clean but the “dining experience “ is something else. The dining room has all the ambience of a works canteen with tables crushed in and mainly set for four or six people, not couples. The food has little in the way of choice and is clearly “catered down”to a price, so much so that we have regularly eaten out rather than in the hotel.

The idea of being able to eat what we want, when we want and in comfort, shows us why we love the motorhome.

Western and Southern France here we come!

3hr drive today to Ypres via Tyne Cot Cemetery, didn't have time to go anywhere else. Our grandad i believe was a spotter in WWI and we have a notebook which shows diagrams of trenchs and locations but its a little difficult to read. He survived the war having been shot in the arm. He never talked to us about it. The cemetery held some interest as he was in Northumberland Fusiliers and i was able to spot some grave belonging to them. Very sobering.

After two blissful days at the Kyllini Beach park up we were hit by a band of heavy rain coming through, so upped sticks and headed south. First to Ancient Olympia which, it being the May Day holiday and this being Greece, was of course closed! A quick coffee and a snap over the railings later and we’re on the road heading south in search of better weather:

Which we’ve found down near Methoni at Finikounda with a visit to the harbour for a spot of late lunch.

We need to do the usual housekeeping with the van so have booked into Loutsa Camping with a pitch right on the beach for a night, or maybe two if the weather looks good.

The Sharron Davies wannabe informs me that the swimming is even better here due to the lack of waves, plus having her own personal lifeguard vigilantly keeping watch while safely ensconced in the van with a glass of red for company!

The view as we descended the Crown Range to Queenstown, South Island, NZ.
We never actually visit Queenstown itself because there’s nowhere to park, it’s over-commercialised, has over-priced cafes and shops, and mainly because the local council is hostile to motorhomers. We prefer nearby Wanaka, but we’re starting to notice that that’s tending to go the way of Queenstown.
Oh heck! I’m starting to sound like a whingeing Pom.

We love Wanaka too, our NZ DIL’s uncle was the Vicar of Wanaka about 10 years ago.

Wordsworth obviously enjoyed daffodils, but my choice would be Bluebells. It's at Bluebell time that I miss the Old Country.
Your photo grhm has sent my heart a-flutter! 💙
