A photo of the day thread

Thanks. As a matter of interest, where do you carry the Vespa?
In the garage.

One man job to load. Just power it up ramp, then push it on the wheeled chock. Plenty of room around for continental wine and goodies.

I often wonder why Canal boats especially the long-un`s have the helm at the Stern (Back).. and not the pointed bit at the front (Bow)... :giggler:

Twould make it easier to drive ......... I think, anyway... (y)

Throwback to the days when they were horse drawn working boats with the goods in the front part and later when they pulled a 'butty', then the steerage and family accommodation would be in the middle.

Stayed there quite a few years ago with Eurocamp I think it was.

Went to Port Grimaud not realising is was only (at that time) twenty years old...

That's strange, only 20yrs old you say, must have been a lot of years ago? :giggle:

I was contracted by a Coach company called Albatross to take passengers to Port Grimaud back in the 80's. When there was a great tent holiday boom.
We used to pick up passengers on a site (The national Library is there now, I think?) near St Pancras on a Friday lunchtime, travel overnight, arriving Camping de la Plage,(I think) Port Grimaud, Saturday.
4hr break then pickup passengers we had taken down 1 or 2 weeks before and get back to London about midday Sunday.
They would then transfer to their homeward bound Coaches.

Mid to late 60's they started building it. The fort style building at the entrance looks a lot older. €3.3 million for a double fronted house on the water's edge.

I did say it was years ago. In fact it was 1978. Had to ask my brother as he was there with his girlfriend. Them on a Honda 400 Dream and me and the wife of the time in my Fiat 132 with all the luggage...

Was actually Canvas Holidays not Eurocamp.

In fact it was even newer than I remembered:

"Port Grimaud. It was in June 1966 that the first houses were built out of the sand. In barely four years, the swamp became an interlacing of peninsulas and canals, a mosaic of streets and squares which create a real village."

Have been several times since by bike but not to stay at that site.

This is the type of boat I would have over the modern shaped ones. Built for Malcolm Campbell.

Presently moored in Saint Tropez.
I did a bit of crewing in my teens and even won a trophy racing mirror dinghies of all things. Then managed to get marooned on some sand banks in a Hurley 26. I wasn't skippering though.

You can still travel on something similar by taking a steamship cruise along the Gota Canal from Stockholm to Gothenburg.
Very expensive but thoroughly worth it especially around May or Midsummers Day!

This was parked outside St Tropez harbour last week when we got the ferry over from Port Grimaud. I quite fancy a couple of weeks in September 😜😜

When I was there, Tony Curtiss alighted from his boat/ship/yatch with his entourage of body guards and his latest gorgeous wife... Oh, how the other half live. :)

We're now at Burrs Country Park, Bury, View attachment 620387the view from our pitch.

Smudger, who'd have classed Burrs Park as a Love Fest. :)

When I camped there years ago, I took a bus to Bury Market.

I got asked out by a little, Chinese man. Then, when waiting for the bus back to the site got asked out by a gorgeous man. I said no... but my ego felt good. :)

Then he gave me his card in case I 'changed my mind and wanted to phone him'. I looked at it when I got on the bus..... He was a Male Escort Agency!!!! . My ego went through the floor. :(

Thankfully being a solo woman mh er isn't as taboo as a lonely, desperate woman any more.

I bet that was an interesting ride back.

Reminds me of a time when I too went on a (teenage) bike ride and mixed Red Witches, Newcastle brown ale and chips!
Newkie broon and chips. Sunday lunch. Mwaah

I don’t know where these photos were taken but those horses are in very poor condition.
I am at Walton on thames ccc site, the horses are grazing on the other side of the river which is not part of the site, they were joined by another couple of horses yesterday but I didn't see who put them there, unfortunately I don't know much about horses. It's quite possible that they belong to travellers, as they will graze horses anywhere they can find.

Can I ask how you are charging your bikes whilst you're out and about?
390 watts of solar.
220 amps of gel battery.
Inverter.
We use about 2/5 of a battery for about 60kms of very flat and charge both in about 5 hours whilst drinking wine)

(Don't tell the wife but hers isn't electric) ;)

This reminds of when i was a kid and stood on bridge at crossing in Bolton-Le-Sands and steam trains would go under and we engulfed in steam 🚂🚂🚂

Yes, I thought they might belong to travellers and there are quite a few of them around Walton-on-Thames.
The RSPCA are too scared to confront the travellers.

I used to site-sit that closed site, a number of winters in the late 90's for CCC and the horses used to break through into the dog-walk area on occasions.
They belong to the 'farm' the Esher side of the river behind the Royal Mills Ind. Est.
