They are the remains of Lime kilns and the spoil, I live a couple of miles away.I can't find a reference to "shushings" anywhere but if that's the Gorple Reservoir near Hebden Bridge I think they may be the remains of ancient peat digging.

The first 2 were taken on my way out and the third on my way back about 40 minutes later .....at which point i couldn't resist shouting " caught anything ". He didnt even flinch

No, its Lancs. Some old pillock keeps putting signs up, we all complain, the council come along (usually 5 or 6 blokes) and after a couple of days discussion and lots of tea they take them down.
