A photo of the day thread

Yet another reason to dislike herons intensely. One cleared our pond in one go, literally standing in the pond and helping himself to the entire goldfish population.

Walking round today we saw the swans - who had hatched six cygnets - but today only five were visible. Also visible was the heron stalking them. There is nothing I can find to like about herons at all..... 🤬

Nature can be very cruel, it might very well be tbe heron , but depending on the stretch of water it could also be a pike.

@andy63 tell me I didn't see this when you were fitting my gas???:think:
ok.....
you definitely didn't see st Marys island when you were here (y)
I see Brian has already told you... but I do find it hard to believe you haven't visited st Marys if you have been over to Whitley Bay:unsure:

I think this from the other side, C&MC site.

Wrong, you don’t get a prize. Your photo is taken from the cycle route that goes around the lake. If you were going down that slope you went clockwise or if you came from the dam you went up the slope anti clockwise. (y)
But I do have a photo like that from before.(y) You should have waited for me.:roflmto:

Stayed last night at C&CC site at Haltwhistle (actually on the bank of the South Tyne near Lambley)
Very Quiet site about half full.

Very peaty water. Could this be the origins of the famous "Newky Broon"?

Moved on this morning to Cawfield Quarry.

Where I met my new best mate...

Its a Northumbria National Park car Park/Picnic area just north of Haltwhistle.
You are allowed to stay overnight for a fee which is quite complicated to work out so I contacted The Sill and they said best way is to pay for a 24hr ticket at £10.
Machine takes cards as payment.
Very poor phone signal and no internet at all on EE, 3 & Vodafone.
Very handy for walking Hadrians Wall.

Moved on after lunch and staying the night at Derwent Reservoir

Thanks for explaining exactly where you are. I enjoy travelling vicariously with everyone on here and it inspires me to return one day and have another tour around the UK.
It’s frustrating when Funsters post beautiful photos and omit to say where they are, hence I often ask them to identify where the photo was taken.

Me too, I do wish people would say where the photos are taken. It would add to the enjoyment.

Have they repaired the road to the end yet? The last time I went down there I was on the Wing and it was bl**dy awful.
Yes must have, had no problem getting here, better still the pub is open, although a little bit windy.

You want a boat when the tide is in, not the wing. 🤣

Is the Crown & Anchor or what was the Riverside Hotel still open?

Yup....it is that, Old Hartley that’s where I stayed 👍🏼
Can't say that we were impressed with the site. Very small pitches just wide enough for the van on a sloping field. We were parked with the two nearside wheels level, the front offside wheel on the first step of the Quad ramp and the rear wheel on the third step of its ramp. It was in a great setting just a pity it wasn't flatter.

Went for a lovely 7 mile walk and had lunch halfway in Kingscliffe. 1st meal out for 18 months, a nice pint followed by steak & ale pie. Staying at what the Caravan cloud laughingly call Stamford although its about 10 miles from there.
