A photo of the day thread

Spring has sprung in New Zealand. We have spent a few days in the "back of beyond" in the Golden Bay area at the top of the South Island. It took almost an hour to negotiate 25kms of gravel road to reach our wild camping destination at the mouth of the Patarau River where it flows into the Tasman Sea. We were alone but for a couple of men sharing an elaborate tent set-up. They're here for the white baiting season. It's a nice little earner for them with whitebait selling for about £70 per kilo.

You can just spot MH in the distance. Our view was looking out to sea from the front window and the river from the right hand side windows.

Picture wasn't quite as I hoped as there was nowhere to stop and take a more effective one. The other day we passed by Cotswold Airport and as we came round corner we're surprised to see all these BA planes lined up, so as we returned past today W e stopped to take a photo. Just did not expect all these in middle of Cotswolds. Smudger55

It’s an Aire for planes...😁

It is a similar picture at Cardiff Airport.

British Airways has a service centre there and there are around 15 aircraft parked up all around their buildings on every spare inch of parking space. Nearby, at St. Athan many are being “decommissioned “ and their Park is also full.

We are down on a New Forest site at present and went out for a cycle ride this afternoon and came upon this tree with an unusual shape trunk looking a bit like a giant Bonsai.

Can one of the fungi experts out there tell me what this one is please.

Not long back from our bike ride and heard a noise coming towards us that could be only one thing.

It's a "Stinky Ink Cap" Edible if eaten when they first appear. After that you get covered in a ink like gunge!

When I was stationed in Hampshire in the seventies and early eighties I used to pass Lasham Airfield on my way north at the weekends. There were airliners parked there along with other aircraft. Some looked quite new but the rest were wrecks. Maybe used for training?.

A beautiful old beech, looked like there could be an Elf living in it too, but farm buildings just behind it and livestock around it and it had shed a couple of big limbs in the last blow. :(

When it hit the ground, the trunk snapped clean in half about 8 foot up, absolutely rotten. :(
