A photo of the day thread

We returned a week ago after four weeks touring france and the Black Forest area in Germany. Our European mainland fellow motorhomers appear to be carrying on pretty much as normal as regards touring. There were a lot on both the odd site we used and on the Aires and Stellplatz. We were made to feel welcome wherever we were by both the site owners and the other motorhomers. We ate out every day except two and were made welcome in all the restaurants we used. We did notice how few U.K. motorhomes were around though. In the four weeks we saw three U.K. vans. So in answer to the original question, they must have stayed at home.

TinaL just found this bad boy in the back garden, its the biggest most colourful Caterpillar I have seen in the UK, so a quick google may suggest its a Goat Moth Caterpillar.
Its Red on top & bright orange underneath.
Quote: At 100mm in length only the caterpillar of the migrant Convolvulus and Death’s Head Hawk-moth are bigger, making it the longest resident caterpillar to be found in the British Isles.

LOCKDOWN at Caen Hill Locks. We are staying at Devizes CC site and walked up to these locks, 44 in total, allowing 2 narrow boats at a time in the locks. Fascinating how they work with water being electronically pumped back up the locks to refill them plus passing bays between each one. Plenty of wildlife, we saw 3 herons. Great day out. Smudger55

Love the whole narrow boat scene. 4 mph. Very relaxing. We have rented over the years and thoroughly enjoyed it. Never considered buying as i had a bobbins crew:ROFLMAO:

The Devises flight were being restored when I was doing my apprenticeship and we were taken there by our instructor. I have always been impressed by the engineering that went into building the canals. I lived near the Hudersfield Narrow including Standage Tunnel.
We have hired narrow boats a couple of times. I loved the slow pace but the last time was a bit much for management. Six days of heavy rain inculding the twenty two locks of the Audlem flight. If you own one you can stop if the weather isnt good but hiring to a tight time slot is not as easy.

Yesterday lunch time at Kings Meadow, Reading.
Only The Poets frontman plays new & old tunes to about 50 of us.
All spread out on socially distant picnic blankets 👍🏻
Not sure how we’ll get back indoors in the smaller venues that local & none mainstream bands need.

Great location and good for cycling. However they are usually late in cutting back the tow path hedgerows so when cycling in say December most people have punctures - hedgerow is hawthorn!

I believe “they” are volunteers helping to keep things going.
Their cycling faq suggests being able to do puncture repairs 🤪😳🤔
