Views from our (short) walk along the Abel Tasman Track, Golden Bay at the top of the South Island, NZ. We were able to freedom camp beside the inlet and enjoy gorgeous autumn sunshine.

As someone who was born and raised in Cumbria and has a Mother-in-Law in a Nursing Home in Cumbria, I was particularly interested in your photos.

I guess they were taken within 2/3 hundred metres of where she now is.

Her husband was a navigator/radar operator in a Mosquito night fighter during WWll. He, together with his pilot, held the record for shooting down the most German night fighters in one mission.

My Great Uncle was killed 45 hours before the end of the First World War and we managed to visit his grave five years ago in the “Sunken Road Cemetry” , beautifully maintained by the Commonwealth Graves Comission.

My Uncle drove a tank on the first day of the D-day landings.

My father was a “Bevan Boy”, required to work in the coal mines rather than be conscripted. He was badly injured in an accident which crushed his left leg. He wouldn’t wear shorts because he was embarrassed by the scars.

We owe them so much.

It winds me up when I hear people criticising Britain’s actions during the two World Wars.

maison, if she's in Barn Close, she's in a good home. A pal of mine had his mum in there and she really enjoyed the place.
Val's uncle drove a tank on the Eastern front, but for the "other side". Him and her other Uncle were Czech conscripts that were given a special, one off offer, to join the German army !
They both ended up as POW's in a camp at Hethersgill where they ended up meeting her aunts when they were let out to work on the peat moss. Her aunts got quite a bit of grief for going out with them from some of the locals, but her aunt's brother, who had lost a leg in North Africa working for Monty, bore them no grudge and they were actually great pals.
It only came out after her Uncle Heinz' died that he had been a Czech conscript, he had told the family that he was from Bavaria as he had been frightened he would have been sent back to Communist Czechoslovakia after the war if his true background had been known.

Well getting lots of aircraft photo's from our back garden just wish I could afford the next size lens up
