Well that’s 2 hours I will never get back ,a morning in a banana plantation  But seriously it was quite interesting back at the van now next stage will be on Sunday when we leave Tenerife and sail to la palma

Go careful on that surface in the wet, another knee injury in the offing.

Good work on faking this knee injury to get the wife to do the painting. I played that one a couple of years ago :)

Wish it was fake all I know for a change I can feel it and it bloomin hurts - normally my duff back (broke it in 87 repaired in 88) masks any pains

Evening Howard,
No doubt you will have a plan but if not, when you disembark the ferry at Santa Cruz de La Palma, follow the signs for the Airport. This will take you on the LP2. Ignore jcts 1, 2A & 2B and continue towards airport for just over 3 miles in total and you will turn left on LP 201 towards Las Cancajos.
Down the hill you will come into the resort and see the H10 Taburiente Playa hotel on the right. Carry on for 50 yards and you will see this carpark on the left.

There were always a few MH's overnighting there and the Tourist Information office is just opposite. The bus stop back into Santa Cruz is just up the road.
Supermarket and car hire is next to H10 hotel and plenty of eateries around. There is a Mercadona and Lidl on the outskirts of Santa Cruz.
Enjoy the Island and don't eat too many bananas.

The whale watching from Kaikoira was one of the highlights on our trip, especially as they know the whales so well they tell you exactly when they're going to dive :)

So pleased you enjoyed the whale watching. A little embarrassing to think I have lived all of my life (except the ten years in UK) only one and a half hours away from Kaikoura and this was the first time that we had been whale watching.

Funnily enough most of the people we met said that after three months and 11,000Km we would see more of NZ than they ever would!

Hello Barry sorry for the late reply no internet . We went the other way and drove on a fantastic road but would have better on a bike but still fun . We have ended up at camping parque recreativo la Laguna for a couple of days then heading to bodegas noroeste de la palma so we are working our way around the island anti clockwise.

Morning Howard
As you enjoy the northern road, you should try and get up to the highest point of the island at the observatory. It takes you right along the edge of the Taburiente volcanic crater at about 3000 metres above sea level. The climb up the road, the LP4 is spectacular. The hairpins are so tight, the tour buses have to do 3 point turns to get round them with their back ends sticking over them a bit like the bus in the Italian Job! You climb through the banana plantations, then the rainforests, then the clouds and reach the lunar landscape that is the top. Spectacular views.
When you get to the south, try and get to the lighthouse on the southern tip. The road down takes you across the black lava flow from when the lower volcano erupted in 1973. The contrast between the black rock, green plantations, azure sea and white surf is amazing!
Think I'll get the job for the tourist office?:whistle:

Enjoy La Palma, we did!

Barry

Met some Funsters for lovely lunch today ... asked the lady on the next table to photograph us .... she took a continual click press and we have six like this. I feel much better about my blurred ones now. :)
