A photo of the day thread

Every Wednesday a running group meet here at the London Scoop at 06:15.
This morning there were at least a hundred runners , which by the time I took this photo were off on their run. If I get there a bit earlier I can hear them chanting and getting themselves ready. It really is an adrenaline boosting sound, hoorrah.
They also pick up litter on their run, it’s near tower bridge so there is lots of litter . Well done to them.
The scoop is our amphitheater which seats 800. ( you can’t tell the size of it from the photo) All the shows are free and you can take your own food and drinks . It’s fantastic.
This is all on the banks of the Thames Opposite the Tower of London.
Laika thewonder dog couldn’t give a monkeys but she loves the space.

Incredible what you can find in this area. My fathers youngest brother is listed on The Tower Hill Memorial which must be close to the Scoop. I will look next time we visit....Thanks(y)

Spent a couple of enjoyable hours inside St Albans Cathedral yesterday walking in the footsteps of monks, medieval pilgrims and royalty among its incredible 1700 years of history...they also do a nice cup of tea in the restaurant (y)

JP & Sheep_web.jpg

I helped to shear this lot a few years ago. My job was to stand in the race and grab the front most sheep and bring it under control to present to the one of the shearers half a second after he had released the newly shorn one. We got through about 300 a day. I still have a spur on my shin bone from the repeated head buts as they came through the race. They either went for the shin, the gentleman's department or some crazy ones, right over my head. After a while I could suss which way they were going to go. It was like being back on public order patrol in Barnsley on a Friday night :D2

The photo has just been selected for a cancer charity calendar out here in SW France. (y)

A two hour walk this morning with Laika the wonder dog.
HMS Belfast with tower bridge in the background with a watery sun.
Not many people around but those who were seemed to be heading home from a heavy night.
Tony the street cleaner was happy because rain =no people = no trash on the floor.

Had a day off today from the paddling...parked up in a lovely quiet spot and spent the day watching birds like herons , curlews and oystercatchers at work along with passing ships and yachts ...
And now just finishing a lovely lazy day watching the sun set...

What a difference a day can make. View from our apartment in Chatel from yesterday to this morning.
Forecast to improve today, certainly needs to.!

Our pitch for last night was at a lovely CL on the banks of Loch Earn between Crieff and Crianlarach.

Drummond Fisheries has about 10 hard standing pitches, very clean and tidy newbuilt toilets & showers if required, usual services and EHU.

Not cheap at £18 on but a lovely quiet setting surrounded by hills. It does have a boat hire for fishing and a boat storage which is a little unsightly.

Nice spot...

You may already know but thought id mention thar there is a fair few laybys on the north side of loch earn that are suitable for a night stop over... well off the road and lovely lochside views..
Or if you prefere some facilities you could drop down to loch lubnaig where there is a sort of aire with space for one or two motorhomes...
I think its supposed to be booked online as its gated... but i got in late evening and i just paid in the morning when the coffee shop opened...
Andy.

Thanks Andy,
We were headed for the lay-by's you describe but they are now controlled by the National Park under their permit scheme.
I don't have a problem with that but for some strange reason they are designated for tents only!!

Looking forward to getting on to the Islands for some lovely wilding places.

Thanks again
Barry

Managed to persuade my local valeting guy who looks after my cars to have a go at the Motorhome today.

Very pleased with the results, off next week for a trip to Goodwood Revival, Isle of Wight and Stratford on Avon.

They take about 6 - 8 weeks to pickle, so they won't be ready until the middle of October, what a coincidence :D
Cheers

I walk down clink street on my early morning walk with Laika the wonderdog. This morning while she was sniffing a lamp post I looked up and saw this chap.
Im not sure how long he has been hanging around.
Clink St runs by borough market and near Southwark cathedral.
I have been in the museum several years ago and didn't think it was worth the door fee.
I've kept the photo B&W for the atmosphere .
