VIP Funster Visitor BigTree (aka Trevor) arrives at QMJ.

20180627_152513.jpg

Drives down the track and parks up on the (freshly mown) Premier Pitch...

Of course, being a gentlemanly host I make sure everything is ok and engage in conversation... EVEN THOUGH the Germany v South Korea world cup match was on...

Bloody well missed all the drama...

Never mind... Trev is an interesting man who has travelled all over Europe, by various means, for decades.

Thanks for visiting Trevor. (y)

Waiting at Bilbao ferry port ,what a god forsaken place this is lol need to get back to the uk for some sun and you don’t often hear that (y) no other funsters here .

Our pitch for the night is at Montherme on the River Meuse/Maas. The village is in the little sticky out bit of France that is surrounded by Belgium.
The river meanders between the wooded hillsides a bit like the Mosel.

€3.40 a night. EHU another €2 ish if you want it. Water included but the dump station is about a mile away although you can use the toilets in the Captainieres office. Showers are available there also at a small charge. Beautiful setting with a grassed river frontage to sit on and watch the world go by.

Go up the road to Givet and ignore the aire but park on the opposite side of the river to the aire (with all the other motorhomes) for a very similar free view only they light the castle and bridge up with different coloured lights

Lovely position, we stayed there last year, good frites from the van in the evening. The only trouble we had was with the water, it was very chemically.

Made our way to the lovely campsite at Ruynes-en-Margeride (Le Petit Bois). ACSI €17.
Popped off to see the nearby Viaduc de Garabit, spanning the Truyere, and one of Gustave Eiffel's many early projects.

I was at Cité Europe last night. This morning I decided to walk down to Lidl's to buy the obligatory pain and check the specials.

I don't know how many times I have been in this Aire and driven past this but by walking I saw it (worse still I want it but am pretty sure I can't have it.)

Tonight I am staying in a beautiful village Brimeux liberated by the Canadiens in September 1944.

Don't answer but please why do I find my home country such a mess. I am in the middle of nowhere. The verges are immaculate and the people are friendly and open. I chatted to a chap for some minutes to establish it was ok for me to park where I was - they were preparing for some major event but that is tomorrow and I will be gone, then I chatted with a French lady for about 20 minutes or more about the village, the old fort and so on. I compare this with my compatriots attitude to just me and wonder.

Can't help it "I love France"

We are currently up in mablethorpe, the coastline is incredible. We discovered this beach yesterday and must admit we were gobsmacked with its beauty, golden fine sand.
We compared it to a beach in Australia much to the amusement of a local when I said this.

Were just a couple of miles South of you at Sandilands. These beaches are superb and up there with the best (y)

I needed to be away early from Brimeux because of the event there today and as I may need to return to the UK for a couple of days, depends on a couple of phone calls tomorrow, I decided to move up to Wissant this morning.

I found myself a nice spot next to one of Fanny's sisters and pulled the concertina blinds across the front. I don't know why I spent all that money on silver screens. Well after about an hour and a half and the temperature up to 32°C inside I thought maybe it was time I saw how they fitted. My neighbours already had theirs fixed (they look as if they are used regularly).

It took a bit of fumbling initially (there is only me), I had not seen any instructions in the bag and as a bloke I would not have read them anyway.

I can tell you now that I know why people buy and use them and I shall be in the future. What a difference!

Just for information. The name Hecate did not sit comfortably with me but Fanny the Fiat is perfect. I think Fanny is happier about it as well!

Our pitch for the night is the impressively named...Campeerautoterrein Zillebekevijver
I havn't a clue how to pronounce it so, to us, it shall be called the Zilly Aire .
It is just outside Ypres/Leper in Belgium and is a 2.4 km safe cycle track ride into the centre of town.
Very quiet purpose built commercial Aire and costs €8 per 24 hours payable by card inc EHU. Full services outside the barrier (water is €1 per 5 min/100 litres extra)
Nice setting amongst, but not under, trees and alongside a lake.

As an aside to this, I have noticed one or two Funsters saying that they cannot send images because of poor or slow Wi-Fi .
We always reduce the size of the images before loading them. We use a very simple Android app called Photo and Picture Resizer It reduces the images from 3.5 mb to about half a mb, so they load very quickly.

Hi Clive , fanny looks good , I take it she's the one on the left of photo and as the other one is a Belgium
We agree about the heat it's 30.5 in our van wit all windows and vents open , nice breeze but even that is very warm , no shade here at cite europe , having a job keeping our dog cool.

Hi Fidget

Yes Fanny is the English Reg . I am amazed at the difference the silver screens have made. Inside van is 28.6°C and feels cooler. Little if any breeze.

I pinched one of LennyHB's ideas for mounting my outside air temperature gauge which is cable tied to the rear underside of the van. Well in the shade and showing 24.2°C but I am not going to go and lie under there.

Have a safe journey back to the island.

Clive

I am now outside in the shade - awning out, cool drink!
