Last two photos of our Provence trip are of Lac de Saint-Croix. The camp site is shaded by olive and cherry trees where the magpies were being beaten to the ripe cherries by hoards of German campers :D2

St-Croix Lac 1.jpg

Lac de Sainte-Croix, all 22,000 hectares of it. That is as big as Rutland Water and Kielder Dam put together.

The scenery reminded us of Cyprus, as did the subsequent journey through the valley of the Verdon, down the Route of Napoleon, round the other side of Mont Ventoux and back up towards home via the Monts of the Ardèche.

Today we set off from Tharsgabhaig bay and crossed over to the strathaird peninsula and round past Elgol befote hauling up for dinner...the journeywas delayed as a few of the party intersepted a distress call from some walkers and had to help relay messages to the rescue services... two helicopters a lifeboat and some private boats assisted...
Setting off..with the culins in the distance... our destination..

Which campsite please? Fly into Venice next week to pick up van and hotfooting it over and exactly the same plan as yours. Lac de st Croix, Ventoux, Ardeche, but I intend to beat the germans and the magpies !

We were at Camping les Roches at Saint-Croix du Verdon, but you will find camp sites all around the lake. If you do go to Les Roches and walk up to the village shop it is right at the top, on the way out of the village and called the Relais Mousquetaires. It is not easily seen from the road.

We stayed there in April. It was packed to the rafters and felt like a small city.

Being so busy it also felt cramped, scruffy and unwelcoming. We regarded it as a site in a good location that was “uncared for.”

What a difference a couple of months have made.

@andy63, looks like an iris, they like boggy ground/pond margins.

I used to do a bit of paddling in a former life............

McYak.jpg

I used to fish mainly out of Flamborough, and Runswick Bay where these two photos were taken.

For those interested the kayak is a fibreglass Macski Kingfisher, a South African design designed specifically for offshore fishing. It was rigged up with an anchor system, GPS and Fish Finder as well as navigation lights, a drogue and could carry two or three 9 foot fishing rods in the central hold.

I sold it before moving out to France and wish I hadn't. It would have been perfect for fishing the big lakes out here. :(
