A photo of the day thread

Ne'er cast a clout. Was clothing.

Till May is out. The flower
Well they say every day is a schoool day and it certainly is today. My mum used this phrase a lot but I always thought it meant keep your woolly vest on until the month of May has finished, i.e. until it's June. I suppose I can take my thermal socks off now. :)

More atrocious Scottish weather on this morning's wander ;)

Anyone shed any light on this pls???
Ne'er cast a clout. Clout is a vest or upper body underwear as far as I know , so keep your vest on until end of May.
Haven't worn one since primary school days , when I learned to write on a slate. Smiley's not working .
Always hated seeing a vest beside my school uniform.

mean the May flower or hawthorn. The tree flowers in late April or early May.

In other words, the old saying means don't take your warm clothes off until the May blossom is out because cold weather can return during the spring months which is what is happening at the moment

Some how id managed to miss this humongous cave when we walked past it the other day:LOL:

A lovely 7 mile circular walk around the tip of the Llyn Peninsula largely along the coast path. Unfortunately I am unable to upload the views that were taken on my wife's camera so there are only pictures of a Whitethroat and a Linnet that came close enough to get pictures of.

Ready for a midday launch. There's some heavy ordnance going off in the MoD restricted zone to the north of me, making the ground shake, so I think I'll go south to avoid being used for target practice

My mam always told me that it was the month of May that had to be out, id never heard of it in the in the context of May blossom. And a clout was clothing but talking to a chappie yesterday he told my friend & I that a 'clout' was something to do with roofing & that you wouldnt do a new roof until the month of May was out ???

Anyone shed any light on this pls???

I'm trying to do some work under my Land Rover. I really don't need his help.
Used to date a girl who worked as a kennel maid. Would go home on leave at weekends and help out at the kennels. They bred Newfoundlands as well as King Charles Spaniels. Ended up with Huggy Bear, my Newfy number 1, then Boggie Bear as number 2. Girlfriend used to show the first one, he had a string of rosettes to his credit.

Brilliant pets:)

Once you have had a Newfy, nothing else will do. Big gentle giants and seem to stay young in mind.

Since texting earlier, it's taken close to 2 hours to get the steam powered internet up and running. I didn't want to appear rude and leave you out
