Wow what a cloud formation that is.......

It is called Orographic cloud.

It is caused as warm air passes of the ground collecting moisture as it passes. When it reaches some hills or mountains the air is forced upwards, cooling as it rises. As it cools it cannot hold as much water vapour and clouds form. Although the air is moving over the mountains the cloud appears stationary because once over the mountain the air descends, warming as it does and the water droplets vapourise again.

This upwards movement of air can be strong enough to support a soaring glider;

Back in England tonight after our tour of Scotland On a CL in Abbey Town just west of Carlisle, all on our own. Showers and toilets spotless.One of the best sites we have stayed on.

A halo around the sun today. According to Wikipedia it is a rare form of halo, a 46° form. I can confirm this as the lens used has a field of view vertically of just over 46°. Ice crystals form the halo and I think I can see these in the image. Taken using a 1.2 ND filter.

We know as we are in Oropesa. Second storm today. Why oh why didn't we stay in Benidorm for a few more days!!
