A new adventure to Africa

We meandered back towards the taxi rank taking in a photo exhibition on the ramparts as we went.

Loads of kite surfers on the main beach. We watched for a bit hen jumped in a taxi back to the Carrefour before driving back to the same spot Jimbohorlicks stayed at which was 6 miles out of town.

Dar El Bernicha is a lovely walled compound with good EHU for 120Dhm. The WiFi is pretty good too as long as you don’t try to upload 50 photos at a time. D’oh!
Back to Essouaira today for a nice lunch, buy some fish & more supplies before heading down to Sidi Kaouki for a few beach days. Forecast is for it to be a bit hotter today, 32c, before dropping to high 20s for the early part of next week.
Just perfect!

Thanks, Paul

Did you not say anything about the fish being stolen to the owner or the guy who stole it.

It was noisy & busy, it happened pretty quickly, the stall holder was mid sales pitch on the other side of his stall from us, and by the time it took me to work out what to say in French, the guy was long gone.
Helen didn’t even clock it until I pointed it out to her.

I hate things like that. The market trader has a living to make and I would think it’s tough at the best of times. The tourist who stole the fish has proberly done the same thing before.

He was very lucky he wasn't caught . He would have had all of Essouria on his tail. There is a Maroc thread on Facebook the picture wants putting up on there..
We found the moroccans very honest.

It wasn't a tourist! This fishing port is vast majority of locals buying fish with the odd tourist mainly along for the experience and photos. I've honestly never seen anything like it. A load of boats must have recently come in as there were fisherman hauling crates and nets and floats and boxes of ice everywhere. It was chaos and the seagulls zooming about everywhere. Locals doing very exuberant haggling over the big boxes.

I thought it was a tourist because of the camera around his neck.

I thought it was the tourist guy too - the other guy on the left was less noticeable.

Great blog thank you. Loving the photos!

Is there a reason your avatar is not showing the Moroccan flag?

Yes the 2 tourists were the ones he was mid barter with when the other guy slipped a fish away. Quick as you like and gone before I'd even registered what happened. Seemed a bit pointless to interrupt his other sale to try to tell him

Are you at Sidi Kaouki tonight.?

Yes, we’re on Sidi Kaouki Beach Camping as Camping Soleil was full. Ali did try to squeeze us in but tbh neither of us liked the site; it’s just a big gravel car park.
The electric is just as sketchy here though. On & off more than a hoors drawers! Switched the fridge to gas.

Paul

Yes the ehu was patchy at the Soliel so we just went to gas. It was the only time the voltage wasn't up to par..It's really a place for surfers as there is nothing else around there but the beach was OK near the waters edge. If you go to marakesh from there just be careful of the speed checks particularly entering the towns from the 80 to 60 kph signs. 👍

We found the Sidi Kaouki bossman a bit brusque last but maybe it changed, but sounds like leckie is the same.
We are still at La Palmeraie and “chilling”

Don’t worry mate. I’ve been studying your thread! It’s been a great resource and has really helped us to maximise our 5 weeks in Morocco. We’ve felt a little guilty as we feel we’ve kind of copied you a bit but it’s such a classic route!
The wind is onshore for the next few days so we may well pop to Marrakesh to visit a friend who is working there!

😬

Don't worry about it , glad we were able to help out . There are such a lot of interesting places and Marakesh is on top of the list. We were over for 2.5 months and in retrospect should have done a bit more. But maybe next time. Enjoy your travels and keep posting , we are still enjoying being there with you. 👍

Photos from our second visit to Essaouira. We walked from Carrefour again but through residential Essaouira this time. Saw lots of kids coming out of Saturday morning school. Did quite a bit more browsing in the souk and some bartering. Only bought a leather purse in the end as not wanting to carry too much stuff about at this stage. Lovely lunch with a mother cat who brought her kitten along for some training on how to hit up the tourists for their sardines.

Food was lovely. A plate of crispy grilled sardines, Moroccan salad, I had a tagine that was tiny lamb mince meat balls in a rich tomato sauce and Paul had a flaky pastry stuffed with chicken and nuts and was drizzled with honey and sesame seeds. Yum. £20 with soft drinks.

We jumped in a taxi back to the van and then drove to where we are now.

So we've decided we need a few days in one place for a rest before the madness of Marrakech.

So we bagged a nicer pitch this morning and have a drinks date this evening with a lovely Scottish couple that Paul got chatting to yesterday.

Had a walk on the beach and across the rocks this morning, looking into rock pools and watching a few surfers try to get out in a difficult spot off the rocks. No wind today but overcast and very mild. Lots of dogs here but quite a few of them have yellow ear tags which I think means they have been spayed. A little gang were having a brilliant time playing with each other, swimming in the pools and following us about.

We found all the dogs we met really liked the company of humans and not just for the treats. We were a bit wary of touching them but did utilise a couple of the 5 litre water bottle bottles to leave them a drink of fresh water. 👍

I meant the bottle bottoms.( cut off) and yes the yellow tags mean they have been vaccinated and neutered. 👍 and probably cared for locally and fed.

Just out of interest for a friend that asked me, in the 6th photo of the quoted post, how much is the viagra turbo ?
