A new adventure to Africa

Last year
Essaouira was the 1st placed we reached and though yes THIS the start of the real Morocco we came to see and it only got better and the people got nicerfrom there on. Right down to M’Hammid past Zagora.
Now only at Tifnit for a few days then off Southward again.

We have just been saying that. Really starting to feel like a proper adventure now and just loving it. The amazing hot weather today has helped!

I am in agadir and my weather app says today is 8oC higher than average. Sadly I fly home tomorrow 😭

She had cheese for breakfast and a cuddle and then it was time to leave Oualidia. She sat in front of the exit as we made to leave. 🥹
Here's my photos of the drive to Essaouira today we decided to stick to the coast road of wing mirror death 😱 the 1st section was stunning coastal scenery with awesome lines of swell as far as the eye could see and we passed through several really poor and rough looking places. Lot's of waves and smiles from any kids we passed, lot's of healthy, relaxed looking dogs at each conurbation. One place was absolutely full of horse and carts I thought we'd stumbled back in time.

The second part after Safi was less nice. Nasty, polluted air by oil refineries and then a lot of plastic rubbish strewn across the countryside for miles on end.

My pics from the drive:

Nice site near Tifnit called La Palmeraie.
By FAR the best site we have found in Morocco. Extremely smart, well laid out, big
130 places, loads of space and spaces left,
lovely pool, restaurant , great facilities and all for 110 dirhams inc Lecky.
We thought after wild camping on the beach North of Agadir, that we would have few days “comfort”.
Mitch

You can have any fish you like cooked for you at the port . It's brilliant.
If you walk from the port into the square where the restaraunts are and keep to the left under the wall its the old part of Essouria and leads up to the old fortifications. But you have to walk past all the shops which is a big distraction

Oh maybe not. Not great wifi

Yes we got as far as the cannons today. Not big shopping fans but the things in that alley were lovely and with zero people hassling we actually bought some gifts for the nieces. Back tomorrow for more and some fish and oysters.

The guy with the cap on the left of the pic above stole a whole monkfish from this stall just after this pic was taken! He made the most of the smallholder being distracted talking to the tourists. Couldn’t believe it.

Loads of different types of seafood; lobsters, oysters, shark, sardines, eels, monkfish. Too many to list really, and all being processed on the harbour for sale.

IMG_0607.jpeg

IMG_0610.jpeg

The stalls were all beautifully presented. And no real pressure selling.

The guy in the cap on the left of the photo took advantage of the stall holder talking to the tourists and stole a monkfish! He picked a big one up, had a look at it, put it back down then picked up a slightly smaller one and just walked off with it held down really low by his leg! Couldn’t believe it.

Lots of cats either waiting for a treat…

IMG_0637.jpeg

Eating their treats…

IMG_0601.jpeg

Snoozing in the sun with full bellies!

We didn’t see them being chased off by the fishermen anywhere, in fact they just seemed to be part & parcel of harbour life.

IMG_0635.jpeg

We left the busy harbour and walked through the fortified walls into the medina.

IMG_0639.jpeg

Past the seafood restaurants where you could eat to your hearts content.

IMG_0641.jpeg

Into the main square. I’m sure that seagull followed us from the harbour!

Helen being tempted by the coolness of the dark alleys.

IMG_0649.jpeg

As Helen mentioned in an earlier post, there was no pressure selling at all. We picked up a couple of presents for family back home while we were here and are going back today to get a few more things as you can browse in peace.

Did you not say anything about the fish being stolen to the owner or the guy who stole it.
