90 days abroad

Not sure if anyone has watched this but she explains the 90 day very well and how to ge5 around it

Very good explanation of how it works, I didn't know Turkey was split, I always thought it was just one big land mass.

I'll put my serious cap on for a second:

It's a big shame that some shit-head has chosen to write 'Fukwits' next to our Union Flag.

If it wasn't for that flag then it's most likely that Europe wouldnt exist today in its current guise and everyone would be speaking German.

Serious cap off.
Ooh..so tempted to say something but I know i'll only get another rollocking from Admin Jim if I say what I'm thinking. ::bigsmile:

Still, reading through this thread, losing the freedom to roam that we had is, to me, a big shame.

Even if you did not pay much attention in Geography lessons at school surely you must have seen photos of the Bosphorus with ferries dashing to/fro between the parts of Istanbul? Any map shows the majority of Istanbul on the North/European side of the strait.

No, don't thank me.:giggle::giggle:

Too busy eyeing up the dishy Geography teacher I'm afraid! :giggle:

I've never been anywhere near Turkey nor looked at it on a map as we've never considered going that far, hence didn't see the 'puddle' between both parts nor the ferries.

I hear Coventry is chilly this time of year ... be careful some of you or you may end up there!

But is unfortunately a consequence which a number of people seem unable ‘ to get over it ‘ and just accept freedom of movement is no longer . So ‘get over it ‘ works both ways
I am over it., I’m happy with how things are😃

Boring and repetitive, get over it !
Well Tigertom not a problem for me as I am a French resident and my wife’s Irish. So life hasn’t changed for us. But a lot of people on here that liked to winter in Europe and have summer there too have a bit of a problem now.

There's two separate cases by people here in Javea that have been fined, first instance overstayed blamed difficult to get flights, no stamp at that time, but then they returned early, and again no stamp and straight through no problem, nothing said at that time. 😁👍
They have just been fined, 😯 one was €7000 and the other was €3000, nothing mentioned about a ban at this stage, but very much doubt they will overstay again if they are allowed to return. 🙂 Bob.

I just saw this and it might be just the start some of you are hoping for :)

Hopefully. Its a glimmer at best but who knows. From small acorns and all that..

I've always felt that once we've got the political shennigans about "Brexit" out of the way, it wouldn't be long before UK citizens were granted special travel status within the Schengen area - apart from political there are no valid reasons why Brits shouldn't be granted free travel movement (maybe work permits etc if longer stays are envisaged). Even a "travel only" visa wouldn't be a difficult thing.
Of course Covid has put a spanner in the works and, rightly in my opinion, countries are putting restrictions on travel everywhere. But once we've got this thing under control I'm sure reason will prevail.

It may be a Schengen restriction but Spain can make up it's own rules surely, (closely followed no doubt by Portugal).

If it were to be brought in, one would have to be very naïve to cross the border from Spain into, say, France as they 'Wouldn't get it' and give you a hard time, but for snowbirds spending the Winter on the Iberian Pen. it would resolve a problem for us, the motor homing community and them, Spain, in that it would raise their tourist income.

So to reciprocate, should Europeans be allowed free movement in the UK too then?
Yes.. I have never had a problem in that respect... It was the constant barrage of petty rules that are so free flowing from the EU that was an issue ( I suspect many from minds that have too much time and feel they need to justify their existence ! )

Don't think anyone's talking about free movement are they?
More about tourism and being able to spend the winter in the sun, as well as supporting the tourism economy in some areas that depend heavily on it.

Why not? It's been like that for many years - at the moment we have lots of small-minded politicians, most of whom (Macron in particular) are trying to make political hay. Eventualy reason WILL prevail (look, for heavens sake, even the French are backing off the fishery "war" after only a couple of days) so, as I said, it's only a matter of time before reason, whatever your definition of that is, prevails.

Surely it should be possible for a sovereign nation to issue a long stay visa if they so wished, without contravening the Schengen rules - I believe France already have a six month one which can be used in addition to the 90/180 day restriction.
Such a visa doesn't mean free movement.

Isn't it a Schengen restriction? So not directly in Spain's control???
Yes but they could offer longer allowances but you would have to arrive by boat or plane.

Never happen whilst France is in the EU, nor should it be allowed .

Apart from we left the club? We never had it before we were in the EU so can hardly expect to retain it when we have entered then left?

You just be arrested & deported as an over stayer

The only way they can offer in excess of 90 days is if you fly in or arrive direct by boat. entry via a schengen state would get you deported.

as far as macron and his mum are concerned the uk are bad news for leaving the club so i cant see it happening

With reference to the "backing off over fishing" apparently the disputed permits have been issued and fine paid to allow the "backing off "

What difference between 2 lots of 3 months, or I six month in a year?
Can et on with the two 90 dy rule,,its the 90 days in between than bothers me.We used to do mid April to early July and then Sept to Nov,,not possible now.BUSBY.
