All having a BIT ON THE SIDE eh!

:Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

Our last day at Tagazhout Beach, what a brilliant two weeks we have had! We have woken up to find the goat herders gathering the bags of yesterday's veg and bread from the campers, the pace of life has been slow and easy, we have met so many different funsters some old members but also lots of new ones, and I thank you all for your company, fot the chats the laughs and evenings singing or chewing the fat.

Some days we have done nothing more than soak up the sun, other days walking to the village for a coffee and whatch Morrocan life go on around us. Other days groups of funsters have boarded the Morrocan Buses and that is a experience in itself and visited the soulks / beaches and just taken I life in general

We have watched the litter of puppies in a cave in the side of the beach grow strong, with the campers feeding them, sat watching the surfers catching the Alantic waves some catching them perfectly others getting dumped in them. Wondered through the hippy and surfer camp looking in amazement at the various modes of transport they have,.

Nearly everyone cooks on Tagines the metal ones including me, often one of the guardians or water carrier men giving advice on the does Onderburg donts.

The one thing I have felt here is totally safe only had help and smiles, I would say to any one thinking of visiting Morocco, just do it.

When we last visited 6 years ago yes you did get some aggravation from people trying to make a living selling you things, this time the pressure has been so little not worth mentioning.

Tomorrow we are off to Tiznit, then on to Tafroute for the Almond Blossom Festival.

After 3 nights at Sidi Ifni we have moved up the coast to a little wild camping spot on the beach about 20 mins drive north. I will post the coords later as we are now parked up with Kiwi and a couple of other Brit vans. We are at the end of a track about a third of a mile long so I will have a walk later and get the coords at the turning off the main road.
I spotted the spot on our way down but we were past it before it really registered. Then yesterday at Sidi Ifni we bumped into a couple from Northumberland that we met last year at Tagazoute and they told us in detail how to get here.
We are planning to stay for 2or 3days or until the water or gas runs out or the cassette is full!
Then we will head back to Agadir to get some gas. I will ask Mustafa to organise propane as I trust him. I am not going to use butane as it has already cost me 500 dh to have a decoke and new jets after just 3 days on crappy butane. Even the the robbing bstard from Tagazoute had charged me for propane. Grrrr!
Here's a picture of our perfect little spot. All English, no French. As I said, perfect.

had too look a few times at that...looked like you have a slide out!!!

Hi Darren, will stop in Tiznet then on to Tafroute , Malcolm Bolt and Cherry Pirate on their way as well, which site are you on, be good to catch up.

Last day in Zagora for us, off to town later as i need cash and a phone top up..
Weather is excellent, campsite really nice, un crowded and cheap.
Heading East tomorrow and the sand dunes,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erg_Chebbi

If you fancy a little bit of luxury in Erg Chebbi, then Kasbah Hotel Tombouctou had motorhome parking behind the hotel, backing directly on the the dunes, with electric points on palm trees!

There is a fully licensed bar, hamam and camels etc but no more expensive then a regular Moroccan campsite. HIGHLY recommended! Google Maps: http://goo.gl/maps/T5lPQ
Website: http://www.xaluca.com/

We stayed here, which was great - but was right next to the Mosque!

Wish we were there

Almond Blossom Tafraout

Carol, Eddy,

If you enjoyed Tag as you say, you will love this place. The Almond blossom awaits.

10 Dhs a night guardien parking.:thumb:

When you reach Tiffermit you will have two options, left (40km) or right fork (60km). Would suggest you take the long way round unless you like gravel roads:cry:

Co-ords for parking where there is unlimitted space N29* 43.272 W008* 58.872

We hope to be here for a few days more, would be nice to meet up with you again.

Arnold & Carol

Hopefully there will be a few Funsters still there to share the love!

We had a look down there on our way to sidi ifni but moved because of it starting to rain , the road at the top of the slope was very slippery and had big pot holes not obvious on the way in and it was difficult for the tyres get a grip , :Eeek:

A mixture of pics of the ladies' herd and the guy's who brings them up off the beach.

It certainly was out intention to go, but we're too busy doing sensible things like buying a house! We decided the next time we went to Morocco we'd give it our all and so maybe that's next year instead?

Erg Chebbi was magical for us. I hope one of you funsters has a body board!

Hi folks, does anyone have the coordinates for the guardian camping behind the mosque in Marrakesh. We may not be leaving Agadir until late today so will be arriving at Marrakesh after dark.

Many thanks, Dai

As Peter mentioned in his earlier post, Suggies Squad are encamped at the Piscine Municipale in Tata. A huge two pool complex with restaurant, showers and toilet facilities in the middle of town.

Tata means rest place apparently, as it is located on the old camel route between Timbuktou and Marrakech.

It is also known as Terrific Tata in our case as we have had running repairs carried out to our nearside wing mirror. Arriving just around midday we asked the guardian where we could get the repairs done. A five minute walk with him across the main square and into ‘Engineering Street’ saw us arrive at a glaziers with the mirror. Mirror was left with the glazier. We then went 50mts further down the street to see the welder. After looking at the aluminium mirror innards, which had fracture in two places, the retort came ‘oui c’est possible’ to TIG weld the ally.

One and and half hours later we returned to both premises. The mirror had to have conventional mirror glass siliconed on to the existing convex shaped piece which was crazed and broken, since the Wilke convex glass with integral heated element could not be sourced in Maroc. Cost for glass cutting and fitting - £4.54.:Eeek:

The welder meanwhile had done an amazing repair to the aluminium innards of the mirror. Cost for the weld repair was £11.36.:Eeek:

We thanked both tradesmen and duly returned to van and refitted the repaired overtaking wing mirror. – Result Mustafas yer uncle. :thumb:

In the evening we bought a single tub washing machine, an outdoor gas burner for tagine cooking and one or two other bits and bobs.

Eight of us had a superb meal at the Piscine restaurant last night (own wine consumed). Kefte tagine and fresh cooked proper chips – yummy.

Thumbs up for Terrific Tata :thumb:

Had a longish walk this morning with Kiwi and his Missus into Mirleft which is the town at the top of the cliffs under which we are parked. There are two routes up and down: one is a set of typical Moroccan steps -you know the sort, none of the goings and risers are the same size: some steps are a big step up, some small; some have space to take a stride some barely have room for your foot. The other route is a ramp at about 45degrees all the way from the base to the top. 100feet above.
Gwen took one look at the climb and said "not on your bloody life"
She didn't miss much as there are very fews shops in Mirleft and none sell anything except basics. Which mean that there is no hassle from anybody.
We only went into town because Colin needed to change his Gaz bottle.
The kids here have an enterprising scam to try and extort money: they have a nicely written piece of paper requesting you to sponsor their football team. A few names are added with 100dh pledged. As if! Actually that was one of the names on the list.
The Guardien came round this morning asking for his money. I offered him 20dh same as everyone else but he wanted 30dh on the basis that our van was a bit bigger. "Vous etes aving a larf Monsieur" I replied and pointed out it was only 45dh in Sidi Ifni where they had showers, toilets, water, cassette emptying etc. he grumbled but took the 20dh.
It's been A perfect day made better by the BBQ we had this afternoon just lazing by the vans.
Happy days.......

Pinkie arrives safely back in Scotland!

Guys, just to let you know, we have arrived back safely in Scotland last night.

We caught the 12.00am ferry from Tangier on the 31st Jan. I drove up through Spain in 2 days, arriving at Biarritz the second night, where after I had got through the pay station I was promptly pulled over and breathalysed! (Welcome to France!)

We made it up to Caen in a day and caught the ferry back to Portsmouth (overnight) arriving at 0630am, where I drove to a friends and had a day/night off driving. So yesterday was a bit of a late start and finally got home last night at 9.30pm.

I am beyond knackered! Missing the weather, but it was worth all the driving, and not as daunting as it seems once you just get on with it.

[Broken Link Removed]I wanted to post some pics of Chefchouan for anyone that is interested. :thumb:

Sand Dune Snow Boarding - Erg Chebbi, Sahara, Morocco 2011 - YouTube

Guess what we are doing tomorrow... Thanks to Brisey and my new board !:thumb: May be safer on sand than water.

Arrived here late afternoon just in time for pics on the sand dunes and a few beers... Been in with "Ali" and had the welcome chat and offer of desert tours.. Tagines and fries are on order so back to the restaurant in an hour with our own beers...:thumb:
We are so thrilled just to be here and see the sand.. !!:Eeek:
Watched the sunset and we are parked facing the sand dunes ready for sunrise... Had a few stops on the way, mostly to hand a few things out to the kids but we got swamped while trying to have a tea break with about 12 of them all turning up... Best part of the day was seeing 2 little buggers with no shoe's, watching them jump into wellies that were 4 times to big and them stomp off back home...

Wonderful Steve, brings back good memories, enjoy are you going on the camels in the morning to see the sun come up from Algeria, the colours are amazing, in the evening when we were there we got tea lights and set them in the sand dunes and just sat with a glass of wine looking at the stars.
It's one place where memories last a life time.

As Tonka has mentioned we have arrived in the Desert!

Who needs ADAC when you have friends to help dig your van out of the desert sand after lunch break.

Only problem is I have to give them all my last packet of twiglets..:Eeek:

Off to our Berber dinner tonight :thumb:

We arrived around 5ish good run up from Guelmim oasis camping this morning .
The scenery was fantastic. Roads were fine just took our time no roblem .here for a couple of weeks we think. ....

Look forward to the video!

Where did you end up parking up?

I have no bloody idea !!!!!!
We arrived, Andrews sat nav threw a wobbly, local touts said they would take us to "le Roches" as requested by him BUT we are definatly not there
BUT the guys have been great, paying 50dh inc electric, parked facing the dunes with nothing in front of us.. Had a meal in their restaurant, they later played some drums and then took us a walk a short way into the sands where we sat and watched the stars.. They are of course keen to sell us a few tours but we will chill tomorrow and decide later...

Have to rest ready for dune surfing tomorrow.. :thumb:
