RAIN!!!!

You travel thousands of miles and what happens? The rain follows you from bloody Scotland! :Rofl1:

Yesterday afternoon was torrential, streets were flooded in Essaouira, rain pouring through the roofs' of riads, and our rental apartment overlooking the sea (whilst van was being finished!) turned into the coldest damp flat from hell!

We could have been "singing in the rain", but we weren't. Actually I did think someone threw a bucket of water over my head at one point, but realised it was just a very bad leak I walked under on the pavement. Alleyways were flooded and the ceilings of alleyways poured water.

...........................you can go off a place!!!!! :Rofl1:

Pleased to see it's not as bad today and the sun is out again, don't mind a few showers for the weekend - sun back out Monday!

I am praying to Allah that my van is finished today. :thumb:

Backend Group does sound a little trite. I vote that we should be renamed Tonkas Troupe and suggest we all have a get together in the restaurant at 13:00 hours to discuss what possibilities are open to us.

i.e. Lots of French went off in a 42 seater to visit Casablanca - 'of all the bars in all of the world etc'
Humphrey Gocart lol

We will be there.. Bugger else to do.. Ever time I walk out I get wet...

Party on the 17th Feb, means we might get there in time, lol

Sorry the weather is bad, even in the south, but I am sure the sun will be out soon.

Pat

We are now camped up at Camping Caravaning Ferrous, just of the motorway into Marrakesh With Makems and the rest of this gang, Suggy and Rosie just turned up and Gwen & Mike got us a good deal at 65 Dirums a night with electric. The mini bus is taking us into Marrakesh for 30dirums return each. So its eating in the square tonight. weather has been off and on rain then sun.
At least the weather forecast looks brighter.

Hi Guys - well we have had really sunny morning followed by snow in High Atlas pass with snow ploughs - real Scotland weather. Now arrived Marrakech - stopped for on coffee and header back to sunny interval Essaouria

Eating in t'square tonight should be good provided rain holds off.
Suggy tells me that the parking behind the mosques has gone up to 100dh! :Eeek:
Just for a piece of Tarmac, no services:Eeek:

If Tonkas Troupe are all heading there you will need to make an early start to all get in before it fills up.

Plans are to be there tomorrow, was going to the mosque parking but if you are staying see if you can save some places.. We have 7 vans and as of yet all should be coming.. Confirm later...

Twelve of us have just been into Mohammedia in two oldish Mercedes taxis. The town was a bit of an anti climax but at least it stayed dry and we were able to buy bits and bobs and meet the taxis at the station for the trip back. Its still fine here but the tide is in and the waves are pounding the shore - hope it doesn't come over the top and into Ocean Blue :Rofl1::Rofl1:

Looks like the "Tagazhout Beach Party" we were hoping to organise will have to be postponed until February due to adverse weather conditions.

Not to be put off by the weather today, we are now hoping for a wet wellies get together at Ocean Blue today! :Rofl1:

I can see blue skies and the sun popped out briefly! Great walk to the right of the campsite, if you do not fancy the walk you will see some steps to the top of the office roof - great views / photo opportunity. Restaurant open tonight.

I hope my comments have not put you off travelling to Taghazout. The storm is over, there will be some more rain no doubt but nothing like last night. The sun has been shining for much of the day and the ground is drying nicely. Roadways have been fine. The surfaces has been roughed up in some places by the water flowing through but they are still firm. :thumb: The area behind our van is sloping and was not used as a thoroughfare or for parking. It was soft sand even without the rain. I don't know why anyone would try to drive through it but the french guy did and got stuck. Simples. :Eeek:

As the photos show, the weather was good enough to get the washing done and it is all dry. :thumb:

Someone asked for photos of the washer so there it is.

And what do you think of our van's front end cover. Inspired by something we spotted locally.

Marrakech Medena Square Restaurant

Hi Carol - if you want am excellent restaurant in the Medena square we can recommend Le Marrakchi - it's upstairs on the left corner of Cafe de Paris. It overlooks the square has Moroccan drummers till about 20.00hrs then 2 very nice Bell dancers to entertain us guys eh! They will encourage you to join in too if you let them - lol. Food is very good too and a reasonable price.

Been chatting to my bird and we really fancy "desert detours" for the mountains. I know one of the "Carols" have done it but does anyone have any advice/experience and rough price please.
I know it is not a budget trip but we would only be doing it once.
Thanks funsters.

Whoops, just bin told by "our lass" not to call her my bird.
Oh and I have tried to post pics of today in al jadida

Can anyone recommend a good Auto Electrician in Maroc or know of the best town where I could find one? I need to have my starter battery thoroughly checked over and possibly replaced. I have no problems starting the bus, however, if I turn the radio on when we are pitched up, then after about five minutes the control panel bleeps saying low volts and there then isn't enough power to retract the pop up radio. Yet next day bus starts regardless of whether we've been on hook up or not.

Suspect the same fault may be affecting the supply to the LNB on the Oyster as well.

Any advice much appreciated

BUT BEST OF ALL IT IS ONLY 100 YARDS TO THE DUNES :Eeek:

, DESERT TOUR al la CHEEP CHEEP ,

you can get 4x4 trips , camel rides etc organised at the hotel ,

We stayed there last year. It is an amazing place.
Only has 25 individual pitches each with EHU and water. you have freshly baked croissant and demi-baguette for each person delivered to your door each morning.

Unfortunately they were in the process of closing down the accessory side due to the 60% import duty in Morocco (which meant Europeans would not buy) and they hardly had any items left. I did not see any hire notices or repair facilities.

Hi yes we did desert Detours and to be ho honest really don't think there Is a lot of ad advantage with them. You could easily do much the same hooking up with another Funster doing that area and hireing a local guide now and then, the 4 x 4 trips are easy enough to organise, and the details Suggy put are good.

Ken, I think Mustafa in Agadir can fix most things and if he can't he will know someone who can. There are a few of us that need bits and pieces doing so when we all get to Tagazhoute I will ring him and ask him to come out to give us all quotes. It will be better than all of us driving into Agadir. Then we can all make our separate arrangements if we decide to go ahead.

Good idea Mike. One of our gas heaters has packed up. The Spanish butane I have been using is really dirty (yellow flame on stove) so it may just need a clean but I don't even know how to get in to it.:Eeek:

Well to quote dear old Graham "and the roaring winds did blow blow blow and the raging seas did rage rage rage and the landlubbers were laid in bed with no lekky listening to the howling gale. :Rofl1:

French are leaving in droves this morning - do they know where Noah parked his Ark?

Seriously though just wondering whether to stay put here another day while this hoolie blows itself out. No fun driving a big bus in howling wind and rain.

Hi Mike
When do you hope to get to Tagazhoute? If they've had the rain there that we had up here last night then its still gonna be squelchy. Think we prefer sandy carpets to muddy ones:Rofl1:

Would like to see Mustapha Starterbattery asap cos if Suggies theory is correct then the battery won't keep turning the engine for much longer if we have a cell(s) off
