2 Go To Beni ...

Found you!!!
A snug little plot next to a corner plot!! All that walking round the site will keep you fit!! It’s massive!!
That's the one Anthea. (y) I tried to book the corner plot for next winter. The receptionist just laughed at me. Apparently, the Dutch have got things well stitched up here. :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Enjoyed reading this blog we were in Beni Wednesday & Thursday, we stayed at Armanello as we couldn't get in anywhere else - hopefully next time! Can recommend Guadalest - lovely village & you can overnight in the car park.
Alb & Elaine:)

@JockandRita - we emailed raco a couple of months ago to enquire about a pitch didn't get a reply, then we rang & left a message still no response, so we went in person on Tuesday & told no space come back tomorrow which we did, still no space so we gave up! We liked the look of raco & can see why it's so popular. It was our 1st time in Beni, we really liked what we saw
Hope you continue to enjoy your hols
Best regards
Alb & Elaine :)

Oh well - back to my book - ‘It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a.............

We did ask at la Torretta the places available were in 'the freezer' area - we're cold bods & like the warmth!:LOL:

Evening all - I’ve got The Beni Bug!!! :( Coughing, runny nose and freezing cold :(

I missed meeting up at Villasol today for fear of spreading my germs - they’ve all had The Bug since they’ve been here so I thought I’d best stay away for a couple of days!

Before I was struck down we went for our usual walk yesterday, starting off at the market, which was absolutely packed. I knew what I was after, but walking up and down two lanes was enough to give up the search.

We walked to ‘guess where’ and had two tapas each - fish and tortilla for me, fish and chorizo for Cliff. Mama’s cooking was, as usual, very good.

Another customer who visits every day

We walked along the strip and saw the other side of Beni - not sure if the bar is open, but if it is it won’t be on our ‘must visit’ list ....

Today we went in search of the No. 16 bus that will take us to Guadalest, and we think we found the stop. I think it takes over an hour to get there, and the only return bus leaves 2 hours after we arrive, so not sure whether that trip will come off or not.

There are organised trips available, but I think they include hard selling of things we have no interest in, so we won’t be doing those either - so the only option left is the bikes ..... but not owning oxygen masks for the high altitude section, I think we will have to pass on Guadalest this year ....

As we were searching for the bus stop, we saw two men painting an hotel - good to see EU health and safety rules being followed to the letter!

It somehow makes a mockery of our window cleaners not being able to ‘work off a ladder’ .....

Sorry to hear you've succumbed to the Beni bug, nice run up to Guadalest in the Moho but wouldn't like to have tackled it on a cycle!! Really enjoyed staying overnight there-lots of animal noises !:D

Maybe not...........
nice run up to Guadalest in the Moho
...............ie, you could leave here a day or two early, and do a spot of wild camping, same as @Oscar. (y)

Cheers,

Jock & Rita. :)

I liked all of that Jock, except - leave a day or two early. I love this place, and the company too much! Even without losing two days through illness (I’m banking on my usual ‘bounce back resilience to bugs) my time here is too precious to cut it short. ;)

Maybe we could do a Snowbird bus outing to Guadalest .....

I haven’t been idle tonight though - Cliff went to the bar to watch the footie - and I had another go at a tricky riff on my little instrument - accompanied by Rosada and tissues ....

Well it’s now Thursday and what I thought was a 12 hour blip (I was fine yesterday) has morphed into a full blown cold today.

Still the sun is shining, albeit with a chilly wind, so we may bestir ourselves and walk into town later to see all the courting couples and valentine special meal deals .....

On Tuesday we cycled to Albir and stopped for coffee with a view ...

Don’t know who the bloke is, but I’m thinking his olives were a tad sour ...

We walked to the market yesterday and I went on a spending spree - a lovely black leather handbag that I haggled down from €25 to €12, a pair of Javer slippers with sticky soles for €8 and various odds and sods that I’ve already forgotten about .... we actually made it up and down every lane, first time since we’ve been here! We brought our spoils home and then cycled into town.

I have to say there has been an influx of holidaymakers over the last couple of days and the place is twice as full as it was last week! It is half term back home, but the amount of children here hasn’t raised significantly - I can only guess it’s grandparents escaping ‘half term childcare responsibilities’.....

We went to our usual tapas bar, and had our fish tapas, but - confession time - I was led astray, literally, down an alley we had up till now missed, and stopped outside a tiny bar .... and the draw was too great .... bread, chorizo, jalapeño AND a croqueta, beer and Rioja for - yes you’ve guessed it - €2.60!!! OMG - we are in danger of cheating on mama, papa, and daughter .... as yet I haven’t seen any croquetas in our usual bar ... :(

It had a black mark against it though - a telly on the wall with rolling news of the Spanish parliament discussing the budget - so no jovial Spanish customers in their usual animated conversations ... we were just happy not to be listening to Brexit stuff! Our own tapas bar has rolling documentaries on the wildlife of Costa Rica - I’m thinking its mama’s homeland - although she never escapes the kitchen to watch it ....

We came back to the van, and went down to the bar for a game of darts - @toledo Dave, Cliff is currently in a (temporary I’m sure) downward trajectory with his arrows and I consequently beat him 3 : 1. I’m sure by the time you get here later this year he’ll give you a run for your money ...

Later in the evening, we had a lovely meal with the Funsters at The Wok to say goodbye to @Jimbohorlicks Lyn and Jim, who leave on Friday. 22 Funsters told them to ‘Sod Off’ in true MHF style!

So another brilliant couple of days, only marred by a sore nose and the contents of half a Brazilian rain forest filling the bin ... :(

Oh, just before I go, has anyone eaten these ....?
A4C84951-9B50-46DC-858E-477276EA587A.jpeg

Granted they are only €1 a bag and the nuts and corn are very good - but what’s with the birdseed that makes up half the content.. I bit into one and all I got was a mouthful of something, so fibrous it would make a very passable jute bag !!

Oh well, just off for a brisk, blowy walk along the front. Hasta La Manana Mi Funster Amigos :)

Loving your thread Geraldine, hope the cold doesn't linger to long. x

This popped up on my FB - and I thought it might be something to add to your repertoire Geraldine @cliffandger

Loving the post and laughing at your antics but not at your snotty nose!

LOL we Spaniards call sunflower aeeda "pipas" and it's very popular and traditional among us. Lot of histories can be told related to them.

I don't know what tyey say in the following video (got no sound now) but you can see them eating pipas (WARNING: Once you start cannot stop anymore)

I got hooked on the bar snacks while out there a few years ago, snacky nuts we call them.... I get them by the bucket load from Spanish Carrefore.
I’ve taken the label of this one but there called Ramblas and I think in 2.5kg tubs .... usually bring 3-4 tubs home..

Love em...(y)

I see your in Albir again, do you like it there..?

We’ve stayed there at cap blanch for the last 3 winters but only to a max of 3-4wks but from next winter probably for the winter 4-5 months and fly home to Newquay airport from Alicante for Xmas return fare being £36

Cap-blanch is not the best site but the location makes up for it....

Just read this - after a discussion at Torretta a couple of days ago - I knew I was right ..... ;)

Garry they look lovely - but we would polish those off in no time at all, so I couldn’t buy them in 2.5kg containers!

We love Albir - for the cycle trip from Beni - just the right distance, and then the walk along the front.

When we walked along the front to Altea we stopped in the first cafe, opposite the marina entrance and had two of the best coffees we’ve had here - black coffee with a little dish of cream separate and an almond biscuit. We’ve yet to find a coffee experience to top that!

Well we’ve had a couple of lazy days here. I think we’ll have to get out and do some sightseeing before we leave on the 1st, but it’s been lovely just to chill and cycle and walk locally, with nowhere special to go!

We walked into town yesterday. I got this photo seconds after the gas delivery van rammed the wall!

Our favourite tapas bar being closed, we felt safe enough to visit our second favourite one, but I think we may need to find another second choice.... Whilst idly flicking through the menu, I spotted this...

Imitation Elvers! Apparently they’re a real thing ...

That was bad enough, but sitting right next to the pretend eels....

It’s amazing what you can coat in breadcrumbs these days .....

The cold has almost gone, with the help of some demon sachets called Frenadol - far superior to Lemsip or Beechams - and I should be back to fighting fitness to make the most of our last two weeks in Beni! (y)

Top banter as always. I love this thread :h:

My favourite song in the world is called Geraldine and it's by Glasvegas. Don't bother googling it it. Probably isn't anyone who's reading scene.
