Highlands End Campsite & Jurassic Fields Festival Dorset Meet 7-11 July 2022

Think we will be going up at 8.15pm as only just finished eating!

Question regarding the music festival.
Are we allowed to take camping chairs in as we are ‘a bit old’

I noticed that at the Party in the Park, London they specifically state ‘no chairs only blankets’.

Thanks
Chairs were allowed previously but will message via Facebook to check for this year but don't know if they will reply in time.

Just heard back - taking chairs in is fine (y)

Good morning - sorry we missed lasts nights meet as I didn’t see the message until it was too late.

Morning everyone, we have just done the Highlands End shuffle! I don’t want to think that we have missed out on one of the highlights 🤣
We were still tucked up, closed up in our pjs when we heard an engine start up, but didn’t bother to get dressed, hopefully no one saw us.

Totally unrelated we are arriving at HE on Sunday for a week. If one of you lovely people with a nice view who are leaving on Sunday afternoon, are near a tap and fairly close to the loos would like to hang on until we arrive but be ready to depart that would be splendid.

Not much to ask really! 😁😁😁

That's a shame - it was an impromptu gathering - a few of us did try & let fellow Funsters know, we also walked around to spread the word in person but didn't knock on doors as would only do that in an emergency.
Everyone is welcome to gather anytime, in the beer garden or invite others to your pitches - we will be off to the Festival each night so may bump into each other there too.

It's very full - you may have to pitch wherever then do the shuffle on Monday morning when quite a few will be leaving. With the new barrier arrivals are strictly from 1pm - our midday arrival was just for last Wednesday & Thursday for this Meet. That means only those on site can move around in that period so good chance of your preferred spot on Monday (y)

We and the Nutrocker Pat s have prime spots vacating Monday. However not near the taps and emptying points as they are on main access road

Ok I confess - we had no intention of shuffling but walked down to see the view after a caravan left & succumbed!

For those going - the Jurassic Fields Festival Facebook page has all the latest updates . If planning on buying drinks reusable cups are mandatory - Jurassic Fields Cups cost £2 or you can bring your own to the festival (must be plastic). Expect bags to be searched as Security was impressive in previous years but taking in one bottle of water each was allowed & there were taps with drinking water - essential in this heat. Although it starts at 6pm tonight we can get wristbands fitted (not handed out) from 4pm. If planning to walk back don't forget torches & if not booked a taxi then if happy to wait Morrison's car park is the nearest place they will be.

We are not going to festival so happy for a mini meet up on our “terrace” at 8pm. Pitch 114. Cheaper than the bar but you have to BYO and a chair.

I think this thread and all those in Dorset contributing should be banned. It is offending me. We couldn’t make it this year. One of our favourite locations except when it’s howling a gale and peeing down.

Jealous? Moi? ……………..you bet I am.😀

For those who have tickets but haven't ventured to the festival.

There is a footpath from the front of the campsite via fields which cuts off a corner. Go out of the site past the reception wait area, bridleway marked nature path at corner go past radio mast and take gate on left marked footpath, gets a bit steep but is a semi gravelled track so OK. Will lead under the A35, slightly muddy, before past a couple of houses and then a lane. No side paths on the lanes so beware of traffic. Eventually comes out at Morrisons. On way back its mostly uphill and after dark you will want a torch in case of cars and at the A35 underpass.

All drinks from the main bar are token based, lager, ale, cider effective £5 a pint. There are soft drinks too. No cash at bar for which there is a fast moving queue. Tokens bought from a separate queue. Card machine wasn't working, so cash may be king (expect Morrisons cash points are going to get emptied). You also need a plastic pint glass £2, if you don't have one from elsewhere.

If you take your collapsible chair you'll be able to sit around the site, just not in the stage area, you'll probably get it security checked. You can go in and out once you have your wristband from first check in. Tickets paper or they can scan your phone.

Toilets are portaloos, suspect these are going to get a bit iffy as the festival goes on.

Variety of food stalls, the pizza was good. These are separate so no tokens, cash or card if it works.

Two stages, Main and a big top, and a third tent which last night was a DJ playing something noisy and banging. Doesn't seem to be much info on who plays.where or when, and even less on what type of music. Main stage last night struck me as being a sort of indie rock, but whilst pigeon dectectives (never heard of them before) were on in the little top there was quite a good band with a reggie vibe.

Glad you enjoyed it, but it doesn’t sound our thing but nice to hear the buzz from afar.
8 pm on the terrace at 114 to watch the sunset again. BYO and chair.

Lots of useful information (y) Would add that the cross country footpath route has a few wooden stiles to clamber over if you stay on it all the way to the lit Festival path & is stoney in parts so walking shoes or similar are best. We went down that way but came back via the road with head & hand held torches & surprisingly little traffic but tonight may be busier.
For toilets, especially in the daytime it's easy to pop in & out of the Festival as the facilities of the town are nearby.
The converted horse box, next to the coffee van, is good with a jerk chicken wrap, salad & coleslaw for £5 & card worked ok.
As mentioned in previous post the Festival Facebook page is where to find the line up & any latest updates - there are no paper handouts.
Agree that Undercover Hippy were very good - the lead singer was like a Ska/reggae James Blunt! The Pigeon Detectives are seasoned performers who put on a good show too. Not bad for the first night of three days/nights & great value for a festival!

Help!

Julie & I have weekend tickets for Jurassic Festival but every taxi company we have called to arrange a taxi back tonight said the same thing: “no chance mate”.

We really don’t fancy a long walk back, up hill in the dark.

Has anybody got transport back tonight that they could share, we are happy to pay expenses in full by way of gratitude?

(We have managed to secure a taxi for tomorrow night - phew!)

Thanks for any suggestions or assistance.

Watched the speed boat racing today, bit hot to sit for long though....

Watched it from coast path by campsite, where whole race visible but no idea who was in lead and won! the blue one looked very fast and had to do a longer loop than the others. 🤣
I am promised fireworks at 10:45 from Sandy Bay. Will be interesting to see if we can see that far !

As some of us are off every night for the Festival thought we should meet up tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon so another opportunity to chat with fellow Funsters :hi5: We have some grass & shade next to our pitch & a great view so please feel free to drop by anytime between 3pm-6pm or bring a chair & your drinks to stay for the afternoon. We are on pitch 93 - with the main toilet block on your right follow the road towards the view towards Eype Beach & we are at the dead end at bottom with a silver PVC. Please spread the word to any other Funsters as not all are online here & we will be out tonight & tomorrow morning so may not see everyone.

Pics of our doggie friends (and others) at Riverbankannie for evening drinks 😁
