Your Beer of the week

Is Tetleys still going? Not seen any for years.

Yes, it caused uproar in Yorkshire when Carlsberg closed the Hunslet Leeds brewery in 2011 and moved production down south. A lot of Yorkshire folk vowed never to sup it again. The old brewery building was an icon in Leeds. The beautiful old building was demolished to make way for another modern architectural monstrosity.

In 2018 they moved a section back to Leeds brewing a few of the specific traditional ales.

It’s a beautiful drop but like any ale it depends on the landlord and his cellar management.

This is what I remember when they closed the Hunslet brewery

Can you spot the famous Yorkshireman supping a pint?

I enjoyed these two last night.
I knew the Rev James but not the Plum Porter.
How fruity the Porter tasted was a surprise but when expected it was nice enough.

Feel my pain. I had to buy 40 of these to get free p&p 😳

Luckily: -
a) it’s a great ale,
b) I’ll take some away for Easter &
c) a mate bought 8 of ‘em to “help”. 🤣

Edit: it’s on offer at the Wadworth brewery shop. £1.70 per bottle. Spend £60 & get free P&P

Yes, it is a nice ale. 👍 My landlord gets it in draught sometimes.

On Tuesday past, he was talking about aa ale at 10% ABV for this weekend. :Eeek: I'm happy to admit that I couldn't handle too many of those. If it's on the pump today, I'll take a photograph of the clip.

Cheers ,

Jock. :drink:

Just found that I love the taste of Hobgoblin
Ruby, Gold or King Goblin? Those are the ones I remember trying.
Ruby I love anytime. The Gold more so in the sun.
King Goblin is only an occasional beer for me :drink:

They've a few I haven't tried like the IPA and some I'd only try at their tap room in Witney*.

They may have others. I know I've a Diceman Stout as yet untried in my beer cupboard.

*- an odd thing about the Wychwood Brewery is all the beer at the tap room has been to Burton upon Trent for bottling and then brought back
A little weird but still fresh to my taste buds.

edit: more than one Burton? Added the full Burton details for Marston...
edit2: soz. For years Hobgoblin was the name of the Ruby yy Before most of the other beers were made...

Sorry guys & gals, it's not quite ready yet.............so it will be on for the Coronation Celebrations................apparently. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. ;)

Timothy Taylor's Landlord
Saltaire Blonde
Both local beers and available in decent supermarkets and don't look like stale tea when poured!
For no hangover (depending on your quantity) I suggest Tsing Tsao (China) and Asahi (Japan) beers. Although a friend who's into craft beers told me that the latter two aren't proper beers as they don't contain wheat and are rice.

Probably Ruby. Would have to go through the bin to find out.

By the time of edit 2 I’d remembered adding the Ruby suffix was a fairly recent addition.
Pretty sure you had a Hobgoblin Ruby - esp. if you recall it being a dark beer

I’ve grown up supping traditional hand pulled Tetley, Sam Smiths, Timmy Taylor, Cameron’s Ruby Red, Theakstons etc
I’m not a fan of a lot of these new bottled beers, I like a darker beer with body, smoothness, creamy head, not these pale, thin, watery no head drinks.

There’s no comparison when you get a good hand pulled ale in a pub where there is a good landlord
