Your Beer of the week

Wow, there are some real cracking ales in amongst that lot Ralph. 👍
I did notice a couple of low volume beers badged as Christmas or Winter Ales. 😕

Cheers :drink:

Jock. 🙂
As for the low volume ales, at least they tried, many do not even bother with a Christmas brew.

A lovely winter beer, unfortunately they have now sold out.

One of my favourites (mentioned before) is Doombar Reserve,

but they've not brewed it for the last couple of years, and even more doubtful of seeing it this year.

Cheers :drink:

So now I've beer for Xmas, NYE AND Easter :o

West Berks Brewery's Maharaja IPA in bottles & a mini keg.
West Berks Brewery's Good Old Boy in bottles & a mini keg.
West Berks Brewery's Mister Chubb's in a mini keg.

(in order, an IPA, best bitter and a "session ale")

I've wanted to invest in West Berks when they opened up for public investments approx 5 year ago but was umming & rring too long and missed out.
This year they had another round of investment chances with perks for investors.
mrskevenh & I checked out the T&C and bought at the "10% for life discount & one off 50% off a £500 voucher" level.
I used my voucher ^^^
but I hope mrskevenh will let me have he voucher next summer. Esp. as she's not a beer drinker & can only need a couple of WBB towels & t-shirts :o :)

They do ;)
Other than the ones listed they have some nice seasonal ones (e.g.Yule Fuel?) & rarer ones (like Dr Hextor's Healer).

They've been traditional beer brewers for ~25yr but about 4yr ago added a separate line of craft style beers.
These have recently lost that fully separate branding, etc. and now just appear in the one online shop.
Not sure why.

I think this is a breakdown of styles: -
Traditional Brewing
Good Old Boy - BEST BITTER

Maharaja IPA INDIA PALE ALE

Mister Chubb’S - SESSION BITTER

Maggs’ Mild - DARK ALE

Craft Style
Solo Pale - ALCOHOL FREE PALE ALE

Solo Pilsner - ALCOHOL FREE PILSNER

Solo Peach Pale - ALCOHOL FREE PEACH PALE

Renegade Lager - BRITISH LAGER

Detour - PALE ALE

Stoney Lane - PILSNER

I don't worry too much about the real ale v craft ale distinction - usually.
I say usually as the Portsmouth Victorious Festival HAD a real tent I often ended up in. Last year it was a Craft Beer tent & I went once. 🤷‍♂️

I used to drink this (and Tartan Special) during my early beer drinking days in Scotland, before joining the Royal Air Force.
I bought a few cans a while back, thinking I'd give my taste buds a trip down memory lane.

Well, compared to the ales I drink these days, I have to say that for me the McEwan's Export is a bit non descript. 😕

Cheers. :drink:

Jock. 🙂

Last night I was drinking pints of Titanic (yes it did go down well!) It left a taste in my mouth like I had just smoked 50 cigs.

All consumed in Wetherspoons in Mold.

Merry Christmas hic :xThumb:

Seeing as it was brought up, this is one of my favorite Christmas beers of all time.

8.8% deep ruby red with a very thin head, roasted malt and port aroma, complex taste of roast malt, toffee, coffee, almost sweet sherry, very festive, like a Christmas party in your mouth. Absolutely loved it, the commercial description says "Created in the thirties, Gordon Xmas initiated the tradition of Christmas brews" I wish they were all this good.

But remember, just because I thought it was fantastic doesn't mean everyone will like it but in my opinion, if you are going to try a Xmas beer it should be different from the norm and taste festive.

Here we are then, the next lot of Christmas Beers that I bought online, as I am not going anywhere near the shops for a while.

For Xmas bought 84 Bottles & 3 mini kegs of West Berks Brewery’s beer but couldn’t turn down the chance to put in an Indigenous Brewery beer order when a friend offered.

now have 4 have 3 Silly Moos & 2 AMMO Belle bottles 🤪

nb: the WBB beer is meant to last passed Easter but now I’m placed in tier 4 all bets are off.
