Worst experience on camp site ?

I don't think may of you understand the situation.

I telephone the site 3 weeks prior to needing it.

Site manager says to GUARANTEE 4 PLACES WE NEED TO PAY IN FULL THERE AND THEN

I arrive and I get shown the 4 places, all okay, no problem, I erect my tent leaving enough room for 3 tents and 3 bikes.

Chap arrives and pitches his family sized tent next to me, I state to him he's on our 3 spots and the chaps will be arriving in an hour or so. He shrugs his shoulders and continues to erect his tent. I get site manager to sort this out but he says take it or leave it.

My mates arrive with nowhere to park or pitch their tents, so LEAVING THEM NOWHERE TO SLEEP

We go to see site manager, who again says tough, take it or leave it, we have an argument and ask for a refund, HE WON'T GIVE US A REFUND

So, we have no choice but to take the family tent down and erect ours, as we have nowhere to sleep, We tell the site manager what we've done.

Other chap comes back then disappears.

The following morning we pack up and ask for refund for two nights, he still won't give us a refund, so we stood up to him till he did. We left and went to another camp site 20 miles away with no problems.

If any of you think this is acceptable from a camp site, well good luck getting a pitch in these circumstances.

Just to get away from bikers on holiday we had a pitch booked on a site at Easter in the Lake District in our tent days when our son was toddling about. The pitch looked ok but I did notice the grass was a different colour to the rest of the site.
Not long after after we had set up a guy said we had the pitch from hell as you will find out if it rains. Of course it pored down during the first night. Next morning we got the little man dressed in PJ and wellies to go for a wash. As we opened the inner zip a pungent smell met us. The kitchen area was green mud and smelled of farm manure.
The site warden was not on site but his phone number was on the office door. I phoned him to complain. His response was “ You find another pitch to move to or sod off to another site”. As the site was full being easter we had no choice but to pack up and go home.
I got no compensation and lost the cost of four days bank holiday. I tried to get the tourist board involved because we booked on there recommendations. Of course they were not interested.

That’s poor.(y)

To get back to original question my worst experience was in Spain, parked next to a dutch van, seemed a nd were a nice enough couple.
I slept in the overgarage bed, it was a warm night and had the window opened, they had a sog, he had a dump I woke up dreaming someone was trying to choke me with 💩
at least we had a pitch for the van.

I don't think anyone is condoning the way the site behaved and they ought to be named so everyone can avoid them. What people are saying is the way you behaved could also be questioned. Even in the last reply

"We go to see site manager, who again says tough, take it or leave it, we have an argument and ask for a refund, HE WON'T GIVE US A REFUND

If you asked for a refund before taking down the other tent what would you have done if he gave you one?. You still wouldn't have had a pitch! I still feel really sorry for the bloke whose tent you removed. If you had no choice but to pitch yours given the response from the site manager what were his options.

But name the site!

Isn't it single sex parties they don't allow? Whether they arrive on bikes is irrelevant IMO.

One of the worst ones we had was a CS near Llandudno. He'd booked in so many motorhomes it was impossible to get out without moving a few. We had a BBQ by the beach and went home instead.

I think it was taken down while he wasn't there.
It was, he was asked at east twice not to put it where he did, but he just shrugged and carried on, when my mates arrived and after talking on site manager and his response, we all agreed to remove his tent from our pitches. We were there when he came back, he was offered to sleep in one of our tents but he declined and went off somewhere else.

Well, for all the above who think we were in the wrong for wanting something we'd paid for, just remember when you all complain about a camp site manager on here next time.

Maybe the op should have let the other bloke and the campsite manager walk all over him/them? 🙄 Anybody would think they've beaten somebody up.. If you don't stand up for yourself nobody else is going to.

It's the Campsite that is at fault here.

IMO 😊

But if the other guy was told to pitch where he did. What choice did he have?

I mean if any of us go to a site, we are generally told where to pitch. We can't just decide nah, I'll pitch over there instead (usually).

If he just pitched where he was told to, he did nothing wrong, but he was the one who paid the price it seems.

I agree the campsite is at fault.

Campsite in the Lake District, solstice weekend with good weather in a backpacking tent with baby and wife. I should have known better.

Rammed full and portaloo type toilets sort of site.

Well eldest son aged 1 took ages to nod off due to the light, we followed about 11pm only to be woken by the loudest Geordie accent I have ever heard about 1am. They had a massive row and apparently she hadn’t done anything wrong but in the most potty mouth I have ever heard at full blast.

It went on for about 30 minutes.

Thankfully we only did the one night.

Then there a similar site where we had got a banger caravan. Someone actually tied their guy ropes to a corner steady they were so close to us.

Love the outdoors life. :-)

I had a bunch of noisy Germans in Spain who were ruining my premium pitch experience next to the Med with stupidly loud music.

I stood up to them but they were much, much bigger and younger than me.

They gave in at the end but it wasn’t very pleasant .

I can't think of a worse experience on a site as I rarely use them but when we do , just go with the flow, it's only somewhere to get your head down.
But as to taking someone's tent down who had been told to pitch there it's out of the question.
I bet one thing to come out of this is a ban on bikers on this site now.

Don't mess with Bikers or Builders. neither will take any s***, probably because people try on a daily basis.
And OP perhaps a motor home forum is not the right place to discuss camping. ;)

Went to a camping and caravanning site near Alton Towers - husband, young son, 14 year old daughter and older teenage son. Beautifully clean, lovely spacious site, nearly empty apart from 3 other vans and a tent somewhere out of sight. In the tent was a young Scottish lad who’s story kept changing - his mother and father were on holiday and he wasn’t allowed to stay at home, he was practicing adult skills cause he wanted to join the navy, then changed that to the army. His age fluctuated from 16 to the truth 21.

He became totally fixated with my daughter, tracked her down on Facebook even sendings her messages and becoming aggressive and abusive when she wouldn’t respond or agree to meet him. He’d wait for her at the toilets/showers and would hide behind the site bins to try and get her and it reached the stage we spoke to him and warned him off. He agreed but just played lip service. She had to be escorted every time she left the motorhome for any reason. The site supervisors refused to believe us - they were retired army and believed his lies. We ended up phoning the local police and only then did the supervisors tell him he had to leave her be or leave.

We were horrified that even when armed with digital evidence they said “no, he’s a lovely lad”… the lad was from Ayr.

As usual I have read all through this thread. In my opinion the fault is with the campsite manager, the bikers did behave in an inappropriate manner and the camper was left in posisition that he should have not been, however if the campsite manager had met his obligations this sad story would not have happened. We all understand
