hi everyone

hope your all having a nice weekend

Ok here’s my question, i’ve a tag axel Fiat based motorhome do FWD.

If i wanted to fit cross climate tyres do I just need them on the front driving wheels or has all 6 tyres got to be changed.

Also if fitted on the front do I then need to have snow socks and/or chains onboard to cross into Spain from France.

cheers everyone

Al 👍

The advice they give is because a majority of campers are sitting there all winter and the extra strength side walls stop flat spots but most replies your getting are from people that use their van all year round so CP tyres are not needed, me included…😎

In addition to this Gary

We have EP levellers on our van so even when parked up it’s not sat on the tyres so the need for stiffer walled tyres is not as important.

I can’t wait to get these fitted tbh and see if I can tell a change in ride quality, and if so hopefully for the better 👍

I haven’t asked yet Jock

we have about 5 tyre fitters around us and my granddaughters boyfriend works as a technician in our local garage who also fit tyres so i’ll probably ask him first

Hope you get a dea, last time I paid £15 about 3 years ago now mobile guys want £25 a wheel.

The engine, chassis and running gear may be a commercial vehicle; however, the loading on the tyres is different, due to high centre of gravity, high mass, uneven loading etc, which suggests that some extra strength in the tyres wouldn’t go amiss,

Providing the tyres are correct loading for the axle there’s no issue.

The mass isnt a factor in vertical terms either.
Our A class based on a Merc is only slightly higher than an H3 van.

There would possibly be a little extra loading when cornering but given the speeds a Moho are driven around corners, again this would be minimal.

There’s some clever engineering with tyres and there are contingency built in I’m sure van tyres will be more than good enough.

Blimey, cost of living ehh 🙄

When I had my wheels powder coated they removed the old tyres and fitted the new ones in with the price.👍

Given the powder coating was very reasonable I think I had a bargain 😊

Miss information Michelin Agilis CP still made and in stock at quite a few suppliers.
My van built in May has them, dreadful tyres will be changing to C tyres once they have worn down a bit, not too long I hope.
I’ll stand to be corrected. Sept 23 I tried at two tyre dealers, both informed me they could not get one as they were discontinued. They could get the Crossclimate but I wanted an Agilis CP to match the spare that had never been used. Tried online and I could have got one from Italy but the shipping made it exorbitant. I struck lucky and bought one from a fun member. His was brand new off the spare. Never looked since but if you say they are available.

I'm always up for a deal Lenny so hopefully i'll get one from someone ;)

On another note, mine must have some sort of tyre pressure monitors fitted, I take it these are built into the actual valves, tbh i'm not 100% sure.

also i'd like to run at slightly lower tyre pressures to soften the ride a little, does anything have to be re-programmed or do you suggest running at the same pressures.

Does the fitter have to do anything to make these work does anyone know?

There are some good margins to be made in my experience.
Certainly .When I bought two tyres last year from Germany, price was excellent . 1 month later they had increased by 60€ ( now back cheaper than when I bought) ,So I bought 2 more the same from Bordeaux ,France for less than the fist pair were?

I pay 50€ to have 4 tyres changed & balanced. I supplied new commercial valves. If done in pairs it is 30€.
A puncture repair can be had from 5€ with 10€ being tops

Yes

He has to change the schrader only usually.
Some can have the pressure adjusted via on board systems others have to be done at the exhorbitantly priced dealer

Wow that'sa bargain.
it sure is

i've been quoted £150 to have them fitted, balanced and any remedial work done such as calibrating the ecu to accept lower tyre pressures if needed, so i'm happy with that tbh.

Does anyone want 6 x Michelin Agilis Camper 225x75x16 tyres, approx 5/6mm tread, never been kerb'd or punctured?

Let me know either here or PM.

Sorry if my post came across as a bit rude Al. It wasn't meant to be.
Having read so much poor feedback on Michelin Agilis CP tyres on here, re poor grip and premature cracking on the sidewalls, they are not a tyre I would appreiate, even if gifted. :(

HTH,

Jock. :)

I’ve only got experience of the Agilis Camper tyres having only had 2 motorhomes new and both came fitted with them

TBH i’ve not had any sidewall cracking on either, i’ve never lost grip or anything untoward tbh

Very good wear rate as well

Same here. 36000 km, two years, they are a little worn, but I just permuted front to back, and still doing a good job. Although, after the information gathered here and in other threads, I would be inclined to switch to a C class or a "van tyre" from MICHELIN or TOYO (TOYO came fitted in my Mazda and had an excellent performance back then).

Update:

Well they’re all fitted but i’ve left it overnight in my grandsons garage where he works and picking it up in the morning.

Regards the pressures, the gaffa says they fit loads of Cross Climates to motorhomes and always inflate them to 62/65psi.

So far no issues either having to reset TPMS on Fiats but says he see no problem if it needs resetting as they have the equipment.

Going down to Newark for the weekend so i’ll keep you posted on my view of the tyres and reduced pressures.

Having read so much poor feedback on Michelin Agilis CP tyres on here, re poor grip and premature cracking on the sidewalls,

However, you need to realise the Lenny HB stating 100 times (at least) that they’re no good is not the same as 100 people stating that they’re no good. 😎

I agree Ian

I’ve done 52000 miles on Agilis Camping tyres on 2 different motorhomes and have nothing bad to say about them.

I’m hoping these Cross Climates are as good mileage wise and better in other areas so fingers crossed.

I’ll let you know at Zeltingen next time 😉.

BTW. I contacted the cycle co. regards the inner tube and they sent me 2 replacements so result 👍

Update;

so got the Xclimates fitted and brought it home yesterday morning, only about 1/4mile.

Drove down to Newark this morning and bloody hell 😱, not sure if it’s a mixture of not having camping tyres and lower pressures but the ride is transformed.

All the crashing up through the steering column/wheel has more or less vanished, i’m chuffed to bits tbh.

Very early days i know but first impressions are fantastic.

The long drive to Spain/Portugal will hopefully be a lot more pleasant

Merry Christmas everyone

Al 🎅

PS. icing on the cake is i’ve sold the old tyres at £50 each so result 👍
