Honest answer? I think any kind of socialising without proper boundaries is way too soon to even consider. Wandering about a pub garden unable to use the loo with a bunch of careless people getting pissed up is not my idea of a pleasant precursor to death.
Pub gardens are unspeakable anyway. Full of smokers inflicting their foul habit on people so if Covid doesn’t get you lung cancer probably will.

If I could rent an area in a pub that was safe and secure from pissed up idiots I might consider it with some of the boys in the family, say fifty quid for the table, then a minimum spend of £35.00 each on drink, yeah I would. My lot are all piss artists and all of them have chronic throbbing and squelching pubsticles at the moment and would all feel they have supported something British thats properly worth it.
I genuinely think that the idea would fly for proper drinkerists, not the half a shandy all night brigade but family groups that are happy to support our precious pubs they could all perhaps become registered pub members and get a discount on later slurpage. Even if it only made financial sense to the landlord for a few nights a week to ensure the pub was full it would be a new normal.
Well I think l get it, it’s a bit like Xmas day lunch you go into your local and hardly recognize anyone and think were did all these come from but a local with solid support from locals might work but I think a registration system might be better as you could register and place £100/£200 into the Pubs coffers and keep replenishing as necessary, therefore, Controlling numbers and only locals gain access to the Pub or Restaurant.
It’s all a bit weard at the moment but for sure everything has to be reinvented to be an acceptable new normal particularly if you want some sort of life other than being isolated in your home.

This country isn't adult enough to be trusted to go out drinking on July 4th judging by the turmoil already evidenced on the news in our parks, beaches etc and the decision to open on a Saturday rather than say midweek will exacerbate the problem especially for the Police and emergency services who are going to be stretched beyond belief on a Saturday night. Lunacy absolute lunacy!

Any establishment that can't provide full facilities shouldn't be allowed to open.No toilets =shut.Same with sites

That’s because the non smokers drove them outside . Non smokers can’t have it both ways. I don’t smoke.

Must be shit pubs where you live, plus a bit over dramatic.
What makes them shit pubs or over dramatic?

Smokers do smoke in pub gardens, it's the only place for them to go if they want a beer to go with their stink sticks.

Talking to a local pub owner, who's also high up in the licenced victualars assoc, he and many other landlords will be operating pre-booked tables both in and outdoors and for 2 hour slots with table service.
I'm not arranging a time when I can drink or for how long so I'll wait another 4 weeks.

Already booked for our favourite Chinese restaurant in Arundel, they are opening mid-July so cant wait.
No more mediocre take always for me :tounge:

No! not in the village anyway, one pub sells crap beer (KELTEC) Nobody goes there, so is empty waiting for another mug to come along and lose his/her money.

The other is the friendly local, Landlord drinks the profits, has five dogs, so the bloody things are always under your feet., been there a few times on my own and with up country "reloes", but ??? Je n'sais que??

I wonder what the price of a pint will be now?

The main thing about a pub is the atmosphere. Meeting/catching up with different friends, having a good laugh focused around the bar or at a table. If pubs are going to maintain the guidelines with the required interventions this will be a challenge for them, and us, so I am slightly confused how enthusiastically some are about the possibility of them opening without a hint of caution.
As seen by mass visiting the beach, some will have very comprehension about how to moderate their lifestyle in relationship to the pandemic and others around them. Even some posts here about herd community and the elderly have had their lives so move over.
Don't get me wrong I would love to visit the pub/ restaurant and therefore support our businesses but not for a while yet until I have the confidence that I - 1. can soak up some atmosphere. 2. not have to be constantly anxious about others around me. Let's hope they get the behavioural support these businesses need and now deserve more than ever.

I do like the idea of going out for a nice meal with my family when we are all together next week. Claire is over from Bangladesh for a month. Matthew and Coral will be here for a week, I’m not sure if they’re allowed to stay in the house overnight or whether they will have to stay in the motorhome on the drive, I’m a bit confused. They want to stay in the motorhome for fun I think so camping Half Acres it may be!
Mind you Coral is a chef and has been furloughed so I think I will be laughing either way.

i do like pub grub, not much fun cooking for just me at home, and last year being a lovely summer, ate out in pub gardens/ terraces, and particularly my local independant pub quite a lot, they've a lovely terrace to watch the world go by, and it's good to support new and local business, but i don't drink and as the drinkers will be outside now i doubt i'll be eating there for a while yet, am hoping they might do takeaway food, will suggest it and see what happens..

.

I'm struggling to see how pubs will actually open

No more than 6 people from 2 households can meet up.
If you are out and see other you know, you should not socially interact.
No gatherings of more than 30 people.

Seems social distancing and a one way system for bathrooms are the easy bits to implement 😐

Just wondering which of us will still go out after July 4th

I replied No - because Scotland will not reach this stage until 15th July at earliest. 4th July is England only.

I would love to have a meal out or even a good coffee - but won't do it until the "covidiots" (see Bournemouth) have indulged their crowding together impulses and got bored of it.
So I'll wait a bit 😊.

if we dont use and support the pubs/restaurants dont expect them to be there in a few months.

Whilst you make a valid point, I’m not about to put our health at risk to support that particular cause.

We like pub grub but instead we’ve been having a night in 😂.

I’ve been doing a steak night or a curry night. You just have to make the best of things.

We’ve got a table booked at our favourite curry restaurant next Saturday. Been trying to book a table at the local pub for Sunday.

We sometimes treat ourselves to a pub meal when away, will have to think about it when we are away in 2 weeks time. The pub near the campsite has a good reputation and has to be booked up beforehand anyway. Will be nice to support our local though at end of July for our anniversary. Not worried about going and supporting local business, but can the great unwashed be trusted to behave responsibly? Seeing the behaviour this week I fear not so I wouldn't be so keen to go to busy locations. And will a little local village pub want to risk having visitors from outside their community?

I said yes.
But I expect it’ll just be outside pub gardens for a bike ride refreshment.
Which friend I send inside to order the drinks is to be decided.

Restaurant visits on the other hand will likely be further off. SWMBO will have a big say here.

One of our local pubs has been selling drinks through a window and people have been congregating in large groups at the bus shelter in the town square opposite, no SD involved at all so given that example I will be giving our locals a swerve.
