Where’s nice and hot

Realistically do you actually think all the jobs will get done or are you just hoping 🤔😂
Our experience of Lowdhams is that you’ll go to collect the van and they’ll say “we havent’t had time to look at it. Can you leave it for another few days?”

Hope you have a better experience. If not, fly to Morocco for a week. We had a week there over Christmas and swum every day. 👍

Lovely, where are you, are you wild camping, be real cruel and send two photos, one of blue sky, sea and bikini clads please and one of the street name you are on! Who cares if we weep. Weeping is good for the soul.
Sorry, bright grey/white skies today 20 ish but still shorts & tee shirt. Wild camping near Chipiona no bikini’s I’m afraid.

Take care booking ...... How many times do we hear from garages "sorry not finished yet as couldn't get part XYZ".

Ha ha, ha ha hah, oh dear, you think that was a lot, you should have read all my other posts, I was near driving it off beachy head, it’s been back to Lowdhams so often I’ve adopted the service bay receptionist. It costs me a packet in wine to keep her sweet!
What make of van do you have?

To my eternal shame.. a Swift Kontiki 794 Grand Prix on a Fiat 2.3 . 9 speed auto. 180BHP
Or a better description, a bag of rubbish, sold to a mug, who parted with £96.600 like it was Monopoly money.

There's a good webcam channel on YouTube which rotates between many popular Spanish towns and cities (about 50 of them) - it's in real time and is online 24/7.
For most of them, it shows the temperature and you get to see people walking about. We have been guageing where to go based on this alone.
Search on YT for live webcams in Spain.
The feed is actually run by someone called webcam Greece (or something like that).
It gives a much clearer picture of reality Vs data provided by weather data sites.

Just a sec let me rephrase that post.
Any SENSIBLE suggestions
Wait a min this is MohoFun. The dictionary with Sensible in it was lost years ago..
Barbados is in the lead, anywhere else, preferably somewhere I can drive to….
If money isn't a prob. drive to Cadiz and get a ferry to the Canaries.
Warmest place, statistically in Europe in Winter.

Benidorm is nice a warm

We decided to head 'sarf' in our way to the Eurotunnel. We needn't have bothered. Brighton and all places enroute to Canterbury park and ride are grim.

Just head straight to a ferry port or tunnel terminal and head proper south to Spain.

Just as we're doing now.

Right ok! Is there a ferry from Cadiz to Tenerife? What’s it called? is there a web site?
If poppy llll fails en-route I can park it in the mouth of a volcano whoooo hooo..

That’s quite pricey unless you can stay two months. €1220.00 one way with cabin and -8.0 metre motorhome.
1st Feb out 29th March back say 6 nights travelling going & 6 nights travelling returning 4 nights on ferry to Canaries.
73 nights in all. Mmmm good idea €30 per night camping say 57 nights..

About €4200 plus fuel, Dover Ferry, food on board, Tolls etc.. A £7500.00 budget should do it maybe.

Strangely a friend has just stayed in a rental apartment for 8 weeks over Christmas €2000.00 per month (28 nights) plus flights from EMA which cost £750.00 return.. so total £5500.00. Limited baggage was the only issue.

However it would be fun to Moho it…

I refer you to my original comment;

It a question as to whether, (No pun intended) you are prepared to travel that distance at
that cost for, apparently, about 2 degs. at most.

It isn't the daytime temps. that are so different. They're about the same.
It's just that, in deepest Winter, ie. January/February, the temps. in mainland
Europe can and do drop to near freezing at night.
Consequently, one only gets about 5-6hrs of warmth per day.

As said, although Tenerife doesn't seem different in the day, at night, it
doesn't drop so drastically.

If it seems that I am being an unpaid, acting member of the Canaries tourist board, I'm not.

I wouldn't pay for that ferry.

We have made a conscious decision, going forward to not go to Europe in Winter.
This year is sorted out. We will see what comes up in 2027.

I'm in Lanzarote and there are 2 ferries from Spain to here. The islands are only 2 or 3 hours apart so easy to island hop and explore.

Feel free to ask any specific questions :)

The ferry to Lanzarote will be a lot cheaper than going further to Tenerife.

Ok finally yes FINALLY.. just under 2 years old my moho will have its Control panel, its habitation door, its hab door fly screen and the sat nav that’s been useless since we bought it 4/4/2023 all replaced, whoooo hooooo. We then want to set off to a warmer climate.
It’s in Lowdhams 9/1/25 until 16/1/25. That’s Thursday till Thursday.
On Friday 17th I will wash it, where does all that green come from? on Saturday 18th I’ll load it and then Sunday 19th/Monday 20th off we go! Just don’t know where!
Mmm suggestions would be much welcomed.
Are you opening a book on the actual dates ?
What odds can I get on 23 Jan ?

Also what odds on the return date to Loudhams being the 24th Jan ?

So I spent the morning freezin my poor tootsies off diggin the deep snow off my drive 30 feet deep t’was.. ok 30 mm… but it was hard work!
Then I brushed the snow off the Ford Edge then the Ford Explorer, I went to the dentist for my 6 month check. In the Ford Edge! The Explorer is too much of a pansy to drive in snow! Chocolate teapot comes to mind!
So I got back and immediately set about clearing the snow off poppyllll. At 8 metres long and 3 metres high that is no easy task. Especially with ice in the floor!.
She’s ready now to go to Lowdhams tomorrow, oh yeah it’s now going in a day early, because Thursday is forecast for all hell to break loose with fifty feet snowdrifts! yawn!
So I’ll be winging my way to Lowdham tomorrow morning early. Get there 8.00 ish, breakfast and the train back.
Then a looksee at crossings Dover/Calais or other ports.

Is my confidence too high? Will I hit the ground screaming like a spoilt tot? Will my dreams turn to nightmares? Only time will tell. It’s I. Lowdhams hands now!.

Anyway my electric Ford Explorer. Picked it up, over a month ago loved it, lots of special stuff travels long distances between charges, wow fabulous, whoo hoo.
Two snowflakes were sat on my drive, one says to the other, ha he’s got a Ford Explorer let’s drive him crazy!
Electric cars have instant acceleration, 100% torque, as soon as there’s no resistance the wheels just go!. In reverse there’s very little control on its speed, no it’s like a 1970s rear wheel drive but 100 times worse in Reverse! Arghhhh still love it but would I buy one in Alaska na….

I'd be heading to Greece, either via Croatia/Montenegro/Albania or ferry from Italy.
Personally, I'd want to spend a week or so just tootling about in the UK first - even if it is freezing, just to satisfy myself that all the problems had been sorted out before heading to warmer climes

Good job I took poppyllll in to Lowdhams early yesterday! We just got snow bombed, whoo hoo sledging day today.
God it’s cold out there. It’s treacherous too, there’s a layer of ice under the snow.! So if you are a pensioner, and a bit unsteady in your feet. Stay in, make a flask of tea/coffee/hot chocolate wrap yourself in a quilt and bore your self silly watching daytime TV.
If you are a 66+ year old who acts like a big kid (yep me) whoo hoo find a hill, drag the missis out on her birthday (pssst happy birthday pretty flamingo) and take her sledging.
We bought padded walking boots last year never got to use them, well we will today.
Thermals, two pairs socks, gloves, scarf, polo neck, padded jacket and waterproof trousers we look like stuffed toys… pretty just jumped up from size 12 to 22! If she falls over I’ll roll her or bounce her to the slope..
why is it that the pretty could slap a dead seagull on her head and look the height of fashion but me.. a Beanie on my head and I look like cosmo smallpiece!

I would follow Bill-H advice and mooch about the UK for a week to check everything is satisfactory. I bought from Lowdhams about 12 years ago, and swore I would never go back there, so you have my sympathies.

BUT, once you are happy that everything works, how about something different? Go down to Toulon and take the ferry to Sardinia (maybe via Corsica). You are in Italy, in the Middle of the Mediterranean, and the sun will be shining. Nice, friendly island, nice beaches, nice walking. (y)

I may even spend the first night or two on my own drive, just to make sure everything works - and you can always pop in to your house to pick up the tin opener wheich you forgot to pack

In this freezin weather, I’m not sleeping in a Moho on my drive when it’s minus 8c. Not when I’ve got an electric blanket, a big tog quilt, full central heating and extra thermals in my drawers!
Nope.. it was fun sledging. We got cold, we got very cold, we wizzed at about 6 mph down the park hill, we made a snow man and woman! We were whooo hoo 3 year olds, yeah.
Now it’ll take at least a month to thaw out.
The children watching us were opened mouth and said to their mother, mummy look at the old people they are getting on a sledge, why!
Well that the revering to silly kids done for this year! Now let’s plan our trip.
That’s if the Moho is fully repaired..

it's a good chance to check out that the motorhome heating works. Plenty of folk away in their motorhomes in the UK at the moment and use them all year - many going abroad skiing.
You can hook up to your home electric and if you do feel cold, just go back into your house - you can even plug your electric blanket in in your motorhome.
Best place to be to find out if there are any problems or niggles when you get it back, rather then your first night away when you get off the ferry.
You could always just send your partner out to try it out

I agree with Bill-H , this is the perfect time to test everything; it's going to warm up this coming week anyway, and the worst of the 'big freeze' is over.

You don't necessarily have to sleep in the van (at first anyway), but you can get the heating going, fill it with water and check the hot water works. Are the fresh/waste tanks inside or outside, and if the latter does it have tank blankets (heating)? Check all appliances - fridge, oven and microwave.
