What tyres should I buy

I do a lot of mileage, an d would recommend continental van 4 season. I would never buy Michelin tyrers again. Totally wore out front tyres after 20km

Just a thought and please don't shoot me..BUT...
Those of you that have tyre longevity issues...... Could it possibly be down to your driving techniques and nothing to do with tyre construction

It could but then it would make you wonder if another tyre did twice the miles.

Yes i thot about that... Could it be that a certain MAKE of tyre is more suited to the driving style of driver than another tyre is.???

What tyres do people recommend for winter use in countries where winter tyres are mandatory?

I'm not sure, but I believe that those marked M&S will do in most countries for most of the time. Otherwise I guess you are in really bad conditions, when you might not like to drive anyway

On our Fiat Ducato Maxi we have Continental tyres; ContiVanContact 100. Continental are a quality brand and generally more expensive. They supply the premuim brand car market. The ContiVanContact are maufactured specifically for vans and are suitable for heavy loads.

I never compromise on tyres and change them after 7 years maximum, even if the tread has sufficient depth, as the material will naturally degrade which can lead to a blow out at motorway speeds.

I have Michelin Agilis 225/75/16/CP tyres on a 3500kg fiat/alko motorhome.

35,000 miles now in 5 years and just checked and find no issues and still 4mm of tread across all 4 tyres.

I did do a front to back swap at around 20k miles.

I run them at 5.5 bar as recommended by Hymer.

I have found no grip issues and on the rare occasion I have had to stop in anger, they have performed well. - The ride is on the hard side.

There may be better tyres for grip, road holding, muddy fields etc but for a long lasting pretty good at most things tyres they are hard to beat in my opinion. I plan to change them next year and they will certainly have them very high on my list but will consider some others such as the Hankocs that many have recommended on this site.

A question for the tyre technos if I may .... My tyres state weight rating of 116 Q at 80 psi on the side walls. Does this mean they are not rated for the stated weights at less than 80 psi? If I were to lower the pressures for a softer ride what would the rating them be? Should I be involved in an accident when running at less than the pressures stated by the vehicle manufacturer and tyre manufacture for the correct weight rating, where might I stand legally?
I think Camper tyres are designed to run at 80psi because of their construction, why else would Michelin recommend the same pressures regardless of your axle weights.
Tyre pressures are there for given weights in order to get the tread sitting on the road correctly and evenly, too high and the weight is on the centre, too low and it’s concentrated on the outer edges resulting in uneven wear and grip.
Campers are so hard in the side wall that running them at lower pressures, I think, is the reason for cracking and premature wear.
I couldn’t put up with rock hard tyres rattling my fillings that’s why I wouldn’t have them, though if you have them I think you need to run the high pressure.

Just a comment on tyre longevity, each manufacturer will have compounds within each tyre that offer specific performance charactersitics. For high levels of grip (sports cars for example), the tyre will have a softer compound. The downside is the tyre will be worn by 8000-10,000 miles.

Also, wider tyres have more contact with the road which spreads the load and increase tyre longevity. Correct tyre pressure will assist prolong the life of a tyre and should be monitored regularly.

Aggressive driving will also impact tyre life (although I haven't seen many motorhomes take corners at speed and attempt to time a best 0-60mph from the traffic lights!).

M&S are not suitable for use in Germany, Austria and loads of other countries that require winter tyres you need tyres with the 3peaks Alpine rating.

Not now, as Lenny said must be winter

Has anyone on here used Halfords' Tyres on the Drive service? And I am thinking about fitting Nexen Rodian CT8 tyres on my Autocruise Starspirit. The brand is unknown to me but may be standard on new Fiat Ducatos? Feedback welcome!

We've got Vredestein Comtrac 2 All Season, three peak , snowflake, m&s etc

After 19 months and about 15000 miles I am having two new ones on the front tomorrow.
They have been subjected to a lot of fairly fast motorway driving but I would have hoped to get a bit more out of them.

I'd love more recommendations of Hankook camper tyres.
The more I learn about this company the more I like them. They seem to massive around the world but not in the UK.
Their batteries are to be recommended.

I only have bad experience of the tyres.

Batteries are okay (made in Korea I think)

Oh no, what was the problem?
I have bought their batteries because it's obvious other top battery supplier's are re badging them

Good information, I was thinking that’s what I would fit next but maybe not then.

They look noisy. Are those wheels ok for a MoHo?
My thoughts.

Just checked the load rating 225x75x16 load rating is only 115 so no good for a Motorhome.

DPD dropped my new front tyres off this morning. Hankook Vantra LT. Oponeo.com was the supplier. 128 quid delivered.

Cracking of sidewalls.
Fast wearing winter tyres.
Bulges on all 4 new tyres within 12 months. Selecta Tyre refused to do anything about it suggesting they had been "Kerbed". Changed the tyres, took the issues up with Hankook who agreed they were defective due to manufacture. Would never use Selecta Tyre Again, it was their responsibility realy.

I agree with Lenny on this one.. When a tugger with various land rovers these were my choice of tyres and when I got moho I dearly would luv to have these fitted.BUT .. even tho they were right size for my rims they were no where near enough for the load they would have to carry.
FOOTNOTE... had these chunky tyres for many years and no I never found them to be noisy.

Exactly, that would give a max of 2430 kg on the rear axle, allow for a 10% safety margin reduces it to 2187 kg.
Maxi chassis with 16" wheels is rear axle is 2500 kg.
Its the light chassis!

From Lenny HB ""Sounds like you work for Michelin, my fronts were down to 4.5mm at 14,000 miles, and the grip is atrocious. ""

I do not work for any tyre company and never have and I resent the implied tone in your response. I have no idea why you only managed to get 14 K mile but my tyres HAVE done 34,810 (so not quite 35K) and they are on my MH on my drive now as fitted from new. The depth I measured yesterday and is across the whole tyre. Happy for you to visit and confirm if you still think that I am mistaken or providing false information.
