What licence do I need to drive a MH over 3500kg? Confused?

It's his apostrophe that causes the problem! has to be a straight one not a curly one😀

L' Hobo

Now don't start on me just because we appear to have reached a consensus about licenCes (That's with a C and NOT an S):LOL:

It all Jim's fault, he will not let me be JUST 'Hobo' as someone else (who rarely posts) has already got it!

Indeed and many thanks for agreeing to gift me the £500. Please transfer the money to:

Sort Code : 27 08 53
Account No: 10666578

Ian 😎
Thankyou Ian for you bank details, they might come in handy for with-drawl after Christmas

Thanks for that, didn’t realise his wasn’t curly! It’s not the funster name I’m having trouble with, it’s how to direct someone to an article, in this case transport related, to a third party site. Plenty of funsters use it, it’s a long string of blue letters in a type of code. You click on it and it goes to the site.
Not used an iPad but can you 'copy' the link and then 'paste' into a post?

Mine IS curly, as the old joke goes, the tattoo may only read HMS now but rigid it reads HAMMERSMITH (you'll get old one day ::bigsmile: )

hi guys . all i know is when bill hit 70 he had the medical ( last 3 years )to keep his c1 & re-apply for it as they don't just give it you .
we downsized from 5000kg to 3860kg just over the limit he didn't want to bother with keeping the c1 BUT it was the payload we was after as we tour up to 3months with things like kitchen tent electric bikes plus & the 3500kg m/h didn't have a big pay load . val

The question I (and probably others) have to ask is;
Does Bill NOW have C1 on his licence and does your outfit have a max weight (Yes. I know it's Mass) of 3850kgs.

Thanks Minxy, I’ll give that a try.

That's how I do it on my i pad, although it seems to have turned into a two stage process 🤔

Technically it isn't mass, we can only measure weight, which is a force.
F(weight) = m X a.
In the case of weight the acceleration is that caused by gravity and it is not constant over the earth
There is no practical method to measure the mass of an object, a weighbridge measures the force applied to it by gravity working on the mass
I do not understand why such a fundamental error is used by the authorities.

DVLA and "Technically' are NOT two compatible words.

There are words that are compatible with DVLA but most of them are rude.

Don't talk to me of Amazon! I do not have a 'smartphone' (mines a Nokia 6210) BUT, if I want to buy anything they send me a link, which of course I NEVER receive and I find it impossible to contact a PERSON there! Not bought anything in months, security is good when it works BUT....:banghead:

hi emmit. yes he got his license's just before our 2018/2019 Spanish winter trip & only took 2 weeks but that was before covid .
the max weight is a man question & he is out plus the m/h is on storage all i know is the unladen weight is 3850 needing a c1 to drive it payload is about 680kg i think you can look up swift 599 if that's any good .vall

Sorry, I have just looked on the GOV.UK guidance page and there is NO mention of LARGE GOODS VEHICLES (LGV) it's ALL HGV's.

For 40+yrs until I retired a few years ago, I owned and operated both HGV's, Buses and Coach's (In fact I still have a dormant PSV Ltd company with 2 operators discs, 'just in case') so STILL get sent all the vehicle operators bumph and have not noticed this change.

Two questions, (1) WHAT constitutes a LARGE goods vehicle and (2) could you please furnish me with a link to where I can find this information, Thankyou!
1992 the eu rules came in.
1992

Since 1992, HGV or Heavy Goods Vehicle has had the same meaning as LGV or Large Goods Vehicle. The licence categories changed in the UK at the same time.

that caused by gravity and it is not constant over the earth

Once again, it appears, my ancient college taught me wrong when they stated it 14 pounds per sq. inch, not a mention of variation!
Can I trust no-one....is there any wonder I get confused?

You are confused.......14 psi is atmospheric pressure and it is certainly variable, hence the weather.
Acceleration due to gravity is approx 32ft/sec/sec...from memory

Thanks for that.
I only asked because after reading your post, I was unclear whether he had got a C1 and, even though you have downsized @3850 it still required a driver with th appropriate licence.
All good.

but 32ft/sec/sec is the speed we fall, caused by gravity, 14 psi is what, when we are standing still, keeps us from floating into space isn't it?

hi emmit . yes sorry if i was unclear bill had a class 1 but let that go when he turned 64 even though he was retired he kept it for sentimental reasons . val

Have not heard anything back from poor old colyboy he must be even more confused after this long thread🤔🤣🤣🤣
Not just long, I thought I understood the subject, after this thread I am no longer sure.
😉🙄😁😁

No gravity is what keeps us rooted to the ground, 32 ft/sec/sec is the acceleration caused by gravity.
Atmospheric pressure is what stops us exploding
