Fixed the gas on my fridge today - could hear it sparking but would not light.

Took off the lower vent, unscrewed the burner assembly cover and moved it out the way, unscrewed the burner assembly itself with thermocouple and igniter still attached.

Disconnected the gas and just kept tapping the whole assembly with a spanner, knocking all the crud out.

Re-assembled - and it works ! - well chuffed !

Realised I hadn’t greased the torsion bars on rear suspension for about 5 years 🤦🏼‍♂️

Took a lot of grease and the mucky stuff that came out shows it was still lubed, but done probably just in time.

If you’ve an alko chassis it’s worth getting this done as those torsion bars ain’t cheap and a bugger to replace, or making sure they’re being greased on the service. Ask for them to be done as they may well be overlooked 👍🏻

The cassette blind clips on the rear window had lost their actuators at sometime, so I resolved to 3D print some replacements.
Here's the CAD drawing.

Here's the part with a stainless pin pressed in to it.

And it works! No internal springs though, but better than £68 for a new blind! Shame about the colour...

Went off for a couple of days last week and on the journey home the van had developed a new, really bad, squeaky rattle. After eliminating all the usual suspects discovered today tat a strap holding one of the waste pipes to the underside of the van had corroded through and the two ends of the break were rubbing together. Bodged with cable ties just now but replacement of all the straps is planned, they are just made from Steel Strapping. Could be worth checking yours.

Noticed only one LED in the hi-level brake light working while away...... checked on Ci/Roller Team spares and boom £62 plus post...... check Bolt on Bits site.... looked the same and description was for many brands of Motorhome....checked against the dimensions for this Hella unit...... ordered Saturday, delivered Monday.....boom... £20 inc delivery..... fitted yesterday too.....and all lit perfect again....and £45 to the good....

After a lot of garden work got around to moving the van and crawling under it. Replaced four straps securing kitchen sink waste pipework using galvanised straps, Found more work to do on the underside, for tomorrow.

Our last weekend trip to Hawick threw up a glaring modern omission on our elderly motorhome, we had no permanent USB sockets in the hab area.
So I had a root about online & came up with this twin port, its just a cheapo Chinese effort at about £5 on Fleabay but looks quite nicely made, was a doddle to fit & I've installed a switch to disconnect it when its not in use,
So slowly but surely our moho is being dragged into the 21st Century.

Replaced the pathetic self tappers failing to hold the off side mirror on with more substantial coach screws and changed the manual inverter/ehu changeover switch to an automatic contactor from Automation24 so no longer need to go to an outside locker to change over when I need the hairdrier and its pissing down.

Fitted some Proplates

Firm on ebay do stainless black powder coated ones for the same price so went for those. £40 delivered for 2 using a £10 off deal ebay was doing. Very happy with the quality and fit.

Had already fitted one side

By chance when walking the dog that morning found a brand new tube of Soudalflex black on the side of the footpath. So used that to fit them 😀. As luck was in bought a lottery ticket but didn't win 😢

I replaced the seal round the garage door as it wasn’t quite sealing properly after finding out about seals direct here on fun this was and easy job and prompt service from seals direct :)

Not so much a fix as a modification. After my last trip I found that a minor annoyance was having to refill the fresh water tank every day even though we had a water tap on our pitch. I thought how much easier it would be if i could just connect the hose to the water source on arrival at the pitch, turn the water tap on and then forget about it. So after some thinking about it I've fitted this extra water connector to the outside of the m/h and float valve inside the fresh water tank to make refilling automatic. Obviously i still have to empty the waste water manually but at least it's one less thing to have to think about. Very easy to do and cheap as well.

Spending the weekend grooving out with my dremmel all the little cracks in the roof of my sprinter based Dakota. Then refilling with gelcoat, sanding down and spraying with clearcoat. If you think time is passing too quickly try doing this job and it feels like 1 hour is more like 4. Using CFS White gelcoat would recommend this.

Replaced all of the crusty rear bulbs, fettled the bulb holders with Scotchbrite, a smear of petroleum jelly and lovely bright lights all working properly.

Also removed and cleaned out our whale water pressure switch. After months of random pulsing and various hunts for non existent pipework leaks it turns out that it was full of little black shavings. I’m guessing that when they fitted the black plastic water tank and had drilled out the various holes required for the pipe work, nobody bother actually removing the debris afterward. Lazy beggars

The main lighting in our MH is nearly 2 metres of LED ribbon type strip down each side over the top of the overhead lockers. We find this to bright and they draw 3 amps.
I found that each side was in two halves with link wiring at the mid point, so I have broken into the wiring at this mid point and now have each section individually switched, and find that just one of the four sections lit is just about the right light level for us plus it's only pulling .75 of an amp now.
