What have you fixed on your motorhome this week?

Decided to have the Brake fluid changed, the reading taken said it was contaminated.

Nipples on both front calipers and 1 rear piston sheered off!, so having those replaced, trying to find a fuel leak too, might be a rodent, more than likely old age, the old girl is 27 years old after all

Also found a bit of corrosion on the front sub frame, having a yarn tomorrow with the local yokel as to the best way to proceed with that.

Engine service, Mobil 1 oil, slick 50 and filters.

New front brake pads, cam belt next job to do.

Parts ordered, job on next weekend:)

I want to say that we have fixed a damp problem? Not!! Hey oh...I have undersealed it and give it a coat of wax!

MOT passed with no advisories not bad for a 19 year old van. Also had oil and filter and fuel filter done.

In the past had quite a bit of work done by the local VWT4 "Specialist", today with the M/H up on the ramp, I had the chance to take a look at the latest £450 worth.

Stripped bolts, Rocker box gasket leaking, Shims for the power steering stop, on the wrong side of the nut, this meant that when you were on full lock you got this horrible noise of the power steering juddering against the stop. Supposed to have changed the brake fluid and BLED the brakes! How they did it without sheering off the rusted bleed nipples, and actually got the same sorry reading we got for the B/Fluid re; contamination after they had supposed to change everything, perhaps they should go into feeding the5000 with only Five loaves and 7 fishes!

Not exactly ANGRY, MORE LIKE THROUGHLY PISSED OFF!

Anyway! the cross member is going to be dropped, , blasted clean, dowsed in a rust inhibitor, treated with a military style rust guard, waxoled , various bit and pieces will be cleaned, inspected etc etc

AND! Am going to be there at each stage of the game!

A nice leather steering wheel ..

New cam belt kit fitted, 5 nice easy hours and £100's saved, new auxiliary drive belt too.

After the troubles caused with the top engine mounting bolt shearing and the engine dropping onto the right drive shaft, splitting the gaiter, I replace the entire engine mounting at the same time.

Cam belt kit £130
Auxiliary belt £10
Engine mounting £60
Labour £0 :)

Of interest, is that the belts were 5 years and 22000 miles and showed no signs of fatigue, cracking or splitting and looked almost as good as the new one I was fitting. Also the drive pulleys looked immaculate at the same time.

I know it's meant to be completed at the 5 year point, but it looked like there were 1000's of miles left in the old belt, but you just don't know until it's off.

Reckon there must be £millions spent on the paranoia of cam belts. It's just not worth risking as the resulting damage could be very expensive

Also took the time to trickle charge all three batteries, ready for our 2 week trip around Northumberland:)

Took a wander today, down to the Garage that is working on "IT"
IT was up on the ramp so was able to take a good look underneath. New Calipers aux. belt too, gaiter, sub frame has been descaled, waxold, power steering pipes cleaned, among other things. Glad to say it's looking good so far. should get it back tomorrow or Thursday.

Repaired some cracks in door plastic on my Hymer.
Removed lock surround and glued a piece of ally around area thats cracked and used soldering iron to melt plastic on the back of another crack.

Also another crack near the opening lever, I couldn’t get that part off so I removed the lever surround and glued a strip of ally inside to cover the crack.

Fuel filler flap.
The little plastic tag on ours broke off months and months ago, it’s been flapping about ever since. They are designed with two magnets, which are quite weak but don’t stand a chance due to Hymer, in their wisdom, using non-magnetic alloy screws to fit the unit.
So today I replaced the bottom left screw with a steel one and added one of those little ‘super magnets’
Works a treat now, clamping firmly shut with the magnet, thought two magnets may have been too much.

Nice one, I need to do the same. Can I ask where you sourced your magnets from?

I’ve had the magnets for years but I got them very cheaply off eBay, they are really strong and take some effort to separate when they are stuck together. I think the ones I have are about 8mm diameter.

Just received 5x 10mm LEDs £2.70

Am going to fit them under the cabinets over the stove/sink.

The original light is in the ceiling, so when you are standing at the bench prepping/cooking/even making a coffee, because of it's position your shadow is over everything.

Just a little thing to make life a tad easier.

Stripped the inner skin off the hab door to tighten the latch bolt plates, swapped out the flyscreen and blind cassette for a spare I had in the shed. The original was a bit grotty after 11 years. Renewed all the door skin screws for stainless, the originals were bright finished and beginning to cause rust stains.

Replaced the outer frame of my Heki 2. For some odd reason, two of the hinges had broken. I only noticed last week when we were away and I tried to open the rooflight. Frame ordered Tuesday evening and delivered Friday morning. DPD would have delivered on Thursday, but we had already arranged to go out.

Changed a thermocouple on the gas hob as one of the burners would not stay lit. Ordered a replacement from leisure shop direct. A bit of a fiddle getting the burner apart, very small torx head screwdriver required, luckily I had one from a kit I bought of eBay last year when trying to fix an iPad. (Without success)
New thermocouple fitted and now all ok.
Pleased with the fix.

Eventually fitted the external aerial for the mifi to BanHam’s roof in place of the status aerial. Really happy and on checking the phones this morning didn’t have a signal, but the mifi still had 4g. Very happy.
