What have you fixed on your motorhome this week?

We were sitting outside the van yesterday waiting for the Tour de France to come past.
I went into the van and could smell, what I thought, was paper burning. Thought it must be outside, so sniffed outside....nothing. Back in the van, checked the oven and burners were off. Water heater off, no heating or blowers on and tv off. Only thing that was switched on was the water pump. Lifted one of the side sofa seats and everything was warm underneath and I had the burnt paper smell. Checked the pump and the steel body ( Whale pump) was skin burningly hot. Turned the pump off, disconnected the wiring and directed one of the blower outlet pipes onto it to cool down
When it was cool, I connected it back up and ran it for a bit. It seemed fine, but a bit quieter than normal. After a few minutes I could feel the body getting warm, so turned it off and disconnected the wiring again.
New pump ordered (Sureflo, at half the Whale pump price) should be here next week.
I took the old pump apart and there were signs inside the motor that it had got very hot, but nothing obviously wrong.

So, not fixed yet, but will be next week.

We are still away in Portugal.... water pump problems again... shower stopped working while @Mousy was showering. I changed the fuse as before, still no water to the taps or shower. Water pump was knackered ~ the good news is that I had a spare pump with me. Half an hour later the pump is changed and it now runs quieter and quicker. The bad news is that Dawn had to use cold bottles of water to finish her shower. Just to be on the safe side I have ordered a replacement spare pump from Amazon who were the cheapest. I even remembered to order the pump with the non return valve.

To try and reduce the wind noise the Heki rooflight was making I fitted a Fiamma roof spoiler in front of it which reduced the wind noise but though up another problem in that the air flow over the roof spoiler now produced an area of low pressure over the rooflight which was trying to suck it open which it did on several occasions on the way up to and back from the Dumfries meet.
I remember a thread that @gerry mcg posted about a German made roof spoiler he had purchased along with a set of locks for his Heki rooflight. After contacting Gerry and getting the nod that the locks did the job I ordered a set which arrive and I fitted yesterday, and after a high speed test run they would appear to have cured the problem, so thanks @gerry mcg it's saving the wife hanging onto the rooflight handle for dear life while I try to find a layby to pull into when it was flying open. Noticed loose black tape dangling under the front. Fiat's high-tech way to secure a sort of fabric tube that protects the flexible intercooler pipe. I put it back, and added new black insulation tape to hold it. Hopefully I will only need to do this once.

I suspect that when the 2nd X290 recall to fit a new clip was carried out the technician should also have used new tape, but the lazy git re-used the old tape, and in the hot weather it let go and unravelled.

Luckily, we don’t get any wind noise from anything fitted on the roof, I guess the factory fitted roof light spoilers and overcab bump stop the wind hitting anything else
However, we do get wind noise from the hab door. I noticed there is a gap at the bottom of the door and the bottom hinge is a bit distorted
So, I swapped the middle and bottom hinges over ( so at least I know the bottom fits properly) and “adjusted” the distorted bit of the hinge, fitted it in the middle position and that now looks perfect.
All back together and no more wind noise.

yet another lazy week nothing (y)

On our last trip my wife was looking in the locker under the fridge as said 'should there be a hole in the floor?'. Several seconds panic followed then I realised the cover had come off the drop vent, it was stuck on with double sided tape. Now secured with screws. I've also removed a s whole load of tar off the van, white spirit, then T Cut followed by Auto Glym Resin. Sore arm now, need a beer.

@Two on Tour , your
post re Heiki window locks reminded me that after owning our MH for 18 months, we discovered we had a lock on one of ours the other day. Albeit that it locks it in the mid-open position. Must have opened and closed it scores of times and never noticed :whistle:

Mended my bike battery as it decided to drop a wire off the on/off switch whilst we were away - a simple soldering job and I'm back in the saddle

Not done it yet BUT have two things on my list

Washroom tap is loose and needs tightening to stop it wobbling about

TV Bracket needs moving 5cm to the left so that we can lock the TV in the cupboard without having to move the wires every time

No doubt I'll find something else to upgrade later

Well got all that done
The worst was the contortions under the washroom sink
The TV bracket is now in a much better position in that it locks closed easily and when open I can see ALL the TV in bed
looking forward to the 3F's rally now

New coat on the shower tray.

Water flow to taps and shower really, really slow.

Water pump needs sorting... maybe a blocked filter...

Nope!

Pump full of broken bits of itself.

Luckily I have a "spare" motorhome to nick bits off...

Repair cost nothing and was carried out in the middle of nowhere (Central Portugal).

Went away last week, after setting up the toilet flush pump wouldn;t! so I took it out for a look, and apart from being coated in pink rinse-aid couldn;t find anything amiss. Resorted to a water jug to clean the bowl, I thought I'll just try the flush again, bloody hell!1 it nearly blew the seat off, never seen the flush so strong!
Don't know what was wrong, but I've made it work a lot better than before.
Any ideas??
Cheers, Dave(y)
ps it's a thetford c200 i think....

They just get sticky so rinsing off the goo has extended the pumps life, for a bit anyway

New water pump arrived a few days ago but I also had to order new push fit connectors as the ones supplied with the new pump (Shurflo) were different to my old Whale pump
Anyway, it’s fitted and working perfectly.
Also fitted a new water temperature sender. The old one was getting a bit erratic with the needle moving about and overheat light coming on permenantly.

So proud of this fix. Upcycled a pencil to repair the broken D holder in the door mounted bin. Almost invisible repair. Could only be improved with fawn coloured gaffer tape

Alice is so pleased with me, she has bought me a present that’s coming on Tuesday. It’s a new D holder.

Really silly basic mistake, water pump fitted where you can get to it
When you have a day spare may i suggest you follow industry standards and lift the hot water heater and fit the pump underneath it
seal up access panel permanently and cut new access slightly smaller than an average mans hand

No!! OK

My only disappointment was that no cable ties were involved in this repair.
