What have you fixed on your motorhome this week?

Sorry to hear about your problems Dave. Are you still stuck kn Kent or are you in France by now?
It's even worse than that Pete, stuck at the mother in laws in Dagenham!!!
Hope to get sorted and away end of next week.

My commiserations. By now you both should have been in the warmth of Spain and surrounded by cheap booze.

We are probably off across the channel on the 18th September so we may meet up on our travels. Having said that we are only going for 4 weeks or so.

2 x Tubes of Sikaflex - £18

Just replaced the rivnuts in my rear light fittings. Whoohoo, that is a lot of duct tape removed from the back end...

Not the motorhome but Smart trailer. Lighting has been dodgy for a while so decided to try and sort. Put new plug on as the old one was plastic and falling to bits, muse have been an original as the connections were all spade fixing. Hooked up to the van and nothing, checked with multimeter and found a loose connection on van socket. Still no lights so took rear lenses off, the design is very poor with bulb contacts barely touching but cleaned them all up, found poor earth connection and everything now works as it should. There is a fog light fitted which had an ordinary tail light bulb, is there a higher wattage bulb available for rear fog lights?

Normally 21W same as flashers.

Fitted some storage boxes in the garage, nice and neat now and can't move around when driving

Just welded up a very thin bracket that had snapped. First time welding in 25 years and it shows

Picks please bill
Sorry already given bracket back to Sian.

It was about 2.5" long with a 45° bend in it and made of .8mm steel. It had snapped right across the screw hole so very little metal each side to weld to... Probably not the best project to break back into welding on

Just had @Wildbill over to replace my fuel tank. I think he got here just in time as it had rotted pretty much the whole way round near the middle on the seam...

Nice shiny silver one in it now...

Aren't you going to give it any protection, otherwise he'll have to come back next year............?

Had an MGBGT for a good number of years - I had to put THREE new fuel tanks on it, even after undersealing them! Made out of tinfoil obviously!

Well after Bill got the tank replaced, I managed to get a few hours sleep and when I got up the sun was shining. I thought i would make some progress on this sills. That didn't last long as it started hissing it down.

Started cutting away a piece at a time until I got back to good metal. I decided to get as much of the metal away as I can that has even a hint of rust on it. The only part I won't be able to do this to is the small struts that connect the sills to the chassis rails. But these are good solid thick steel so a really good clean and treatment should be good enough for those.

Anyway, here is the progress before the rain started...

Sorry about the poor pictures, they were taken in a rush as it was starting to rain and needed to get my tools put away.

Crumbs Karl! Had you been drinking? ;)

It's galvanised and painted. I was going to paint it but bill says it will outlast me/the van... :D

Fitted Battery Monitor to our Solar / Inverter system. This will help a lot to monitor the use and availability when in Spain this winter and cut down the metered hookup costs.

Advance notice of fix (I will also advise later as to how to fix the Bank Account)

Just heard from those very nice people at Tamar Towing, in Plympton, Plymouth that our "Heki" (It isn't but you know what I mean) needs a new motor and gearbox. I'm told that the bill to do that is £239.

Just ordered a ryobi multitool and metal cutting blades. so that I can cut into the corners of the sill to make a decent neat job of it. Angle grinder with cutting disk can't get into a lot of places I need to cut :(

Did think about using my Dremel but think it would take ages for the amount I need to cut.

http://amzn.to/2wXv0Xu

At this rate I will have a full kit of Ryobi one+ tool

Ordered some scraper tools for the ryobi as well so I can remove underseal to make it all good after.

Absolutely nothing:)

The plan was to drop the sump, clean and seal and replace the weeping gasket before fresh oil and filters and another shot of Slick 50:)

Popped the motorhome on the 4 post ramp, got all the tools, rags, oil container ready and hit the lift button:)

Think it raised it 6inches max, so that put paid to those plans!!!

Off came the motorhome, on went the car and changed both front wheel bearings. Left side had gone, did the right as preventative maintenance, while it's still reasonably warm and not the middle of winter as would probably be the case:)

The 4 post lift is brand new and is meant to be rated at 4200kgs, so either it's not, or I'm seriously overweight and that's empty tanks, no one aboard and no clothes, food etc. Going to talk to the company who installed it to find out what's going on.

@PP Bear I am so jealous of those ramps and indoors. Doing my sills etc etc outdoors with trolley jack and axle stand whilst dodging the bad weather....

Not quite fixed, but a few jobs to sort out in the next two weeks.
Anyway....3 days to go before we head to the UK for a month or so and decided to have a day at the beach in the van.
Put the hot water on, half an hour later and it's still cold.
Bugg3r!
So, when we got home, checked everything out and it seems the gas burner module has burned its last.
These are all but obsolete now for our Carver Cascade 2, but managed to order a compatible unit and new switch, which is now called "Henry"!
Apparently they are made in China, so had to come to terms with my commitment to buy no more Chinese made goods, and ordered one. Should be waiting back in the UK when I get there.
So, we were going to replace the van in the next couple of weeks, but it looks like we may keep a bit longer. I have already ordered new tyres and exhaust and booked in for a new cambelt, so after spending that much, we will keep it for a while to get the benefit.

I'm quite spoilt really as I have a choice of places to go too. I really feel for you as it's no fun working in those conditions. Just take care with it all and stay safe please, especially using the jack etc, we don't want a squished @Gromett do we!!!
