What have you ever forgotten? Mousy off again..

A few years back I had the motorhome parked at Alicante. I had a night time sailing from Santander the next day but still thought it a good idea to go for a night out. I was at the casino and a few clubs, it was a good night to be fair.

A quick breakfast the next day and I was off. I got about 400 miles done and due to bad weather and a broken exhaust I had to admit defeat knowing I wouldn't make the ferry. The next day I parked up near Santander and found a casino coupon in my wallet for about 800 euros that I had forgot to cash in. Only 2 of those casinos in Spain and both were at least 500 miles South of me!

I got the next ferry home and flew back over on a Ryanair special for about £30 return a month or so later to cash in. Over and back the same day. Best thing was when I went to the cashier at the casino they found I'd left another 200 euro or so on the online blackjack and they were honest enough to give me that back too. Result.

We turned up for a 2 x week caravan holiday rally, at a site near Harrogate. With the van pitched, services installed, and the full size awning up and secured, I then announced that it was time to get into shorts and a T shirt. Immediately, Rita and daughter Jen looked at each other before they burst out laughing. It turned out that apart from what I was stood in, all my clothes were still at the bottom of the stairs at home, in carrier bags waiting to be loaded into the caravan. Bu@@er.

A quick trip to George at Asda, soon saw me with completely new wardrobe for the 2 x weeks.

Dawn & Martin, have a safe journey down, and enjoy the trip. (y)
If in the Benidorm area, please do give Rita and I a shout. :)

Cheers for now,

Jock. :)

Years ago when I only had a tent, the pegs were forgotten and had to dash off to a Welsh town to buy some.
Another time the Camp Gaz stove was left at home so the local tea van was very handy!
This time a hand knitted jumper that I was going to remake has been left-somewhere!

Nothing momentous when leaving but a bit like cliffanger and her dog we nearly left our 3 month old son - still in his buggy - at the checkout in a supermarket in the Dordogne … he is now 18 and enjoys telling the story to his friends ☺️
When did you tell him it was deliberate? 🙂

Last trip, she-who-cannot-be-named forgot the seed bowl for our budgie. The poor bird would have starved, had I not spotted a collapsible water bowl for a small dog in a local shop. A couple of cable ties to secure it to the cage bars, job done. Happy bird.

On another occasion we were well down the road in the van before I realised I was still wearing slippers while driving, and hadn't brought any shoes. Result - swift u-turn and drive back home which might have confused our neighbours.

Cold and noisy night, woken up at 04.30 by a woman shouting “I ate you Terry” “I ate you!”

She then spent an hour berating poor Terry but not loud enough for me to hear what his crime was. Shame as I was invested. Martin slept through it.

Caught the train ok and arrived to glorious sunshine.

First stop was the best pain au rasin ever!
X 2 and a french stick €4.70.

Using a combination of co pilot and Google maps trying to stick to Tontas route to Spain. No way will we be driving anything like yesterday's 10 hours! There is no rush and as it’s dry we can explore a bit. That’s the beauty of motorhoming.

We’ve laughed at your antics, made us feel better so keep vessin up.

I’m glad you are on your way!

I once left the keys to our car in the hire car we had had on holiday  poor hubby hired another car at East Midlands airport, drove home for the spare key and then came back for me, the kids, the luggage and our car!

Hubby forgot to pack his trousers on a trip to France once so we had a shopping trip for more!

another time on a trip to the Yorkshire dales, we forgot our walking boots. We went out to buy some, leaving our dogs at the b&b as agreed with our host. Had a call a bit later to say she had accidentally let the dogs out and our border collie was rounding up some sheep. thankfully she had the dogs safe when we got back!

So glad you’re going to have a better day today and it’s started well with French cuisine!

tonka Steve’s route is really good - I think there’s one point where they’ve opened new bits of road, but that’s the only way it differs, so with Google maps you should be fine.

Stop at the Aires he suggests too - also good.

Safe travels xx

He probably left the pet passport at home…😎

Bristol easyjet to turkey.
sparrow*rt 3am wake. ToBristol. park up. usual hour queue to check in.
Complimented on small size of luggage.
Handed over passport. Ahhh - it's not you!
Was my wife's - we had handed passports back a few months back on a motorbike trip.

Booked evening flight from Gatwick for £60

Back to car - £75 parking for 90 minutes!

Back home.
To station and train to London (family were going for brief break)
Down to GTW
Made Turkey just in time and was able to make last evening ferry to island

Have also made it 60 miles before realising didn't have passport for ski trip.
Had recently returned from South Africa and France felt too local to need a passport.

Forgot the tickets for the Peterborough show, went back home for them, was laughing about it at check in,was told we should have phoned and they would have sorted it as I had details on my phone oops.
many years ago when kids were little went on holiday. Didn't want to be doing a lot of washing so knitted them each a new jumper for every day, plus some for their dad, it was a cold week. So busy sorting them out only had the jumper i was wearing, spent the rest of the time wearing one hubbies jumpers he was a foot taller and a fair bit wider, couldn't afford to buy a new one and dont remember charity shops being about then.

Closest I've got so far is leaving my D/Licence and a wodge of drachma behind on a package holiday to some greek island. Back before E Mails were a thing. Brother managed to fax a copy of licence so that we could hire a car.

Between Christmas & New Year just, got to Gretna Green (120 miles) from home before I realised I didn’t have my wallet. Panicked because I wasn’t sure if I had left it behind or lost it but carried on regardless. Thank goodness for phone payments which I honestly thought I’d never use.

Walked the kids to school once and only realised when I got home I’d left the dog tied to the school gates 😳😳😳

A friend of ours admitted that she'd left her very young daughter on the bus as she (mum) alighted at home!! This is pre mobile phones. She raced home and drove at speed to catch the bus up.

When I were a nipper or around 6 we had a summer holiday to Italy.
In the Alps I was far more interested in the snow drift in the car park than going with mum, dad and elder brother for coffee.

The three returned and promptly drove off - my brother keeping quiet that I wasn't in the car.

Can't fully remember how long I wandered around the car park before they returned.

Just remembered another occasion of forgetfulness; while we still lived in Liverpool Alan was going for a week long training course in Fleet, Hants & as the kids were on school hols we took the caravan down to the Caravan Club site at Henley on Thames which wasn't too far away. When we got there Alan realised he hadn't packed any shoes so he asked the warden where there was a shoe shop, it was in Marlow where Alan bought the cheapest pair he could find. The warden did offer to lend him a pair :giggler:

Forgot my best mates car once, my school mate was working with me and I use to give him a lift in my van to site.
One day he drove his car in as he had dentist first thing in the morning, come home time he jumps in the van and off we go home wasn’t until we pulled up outside his house that he remembered where his car was🤬🤬🤬
It wasn’t the best area where he left it so off we went back again😂😂

We stopped for fuel and found this great lunch spot.

It felt a long driving day but without actually getting very far

We have stopped here for the night. Mortagne au Perche. There is a service area so showers are on the cards for tomorrow with a quick empty/refill.

Hoping to get into Spain by tomorrow night, with a 7 hour drive. Martin is like a lizard, cold and miserable without warmth and sunshine 😂
I’m hoping we can find that damn tunnel cos I don’t fancy going over the Pyrenees again like last year!

We had mules sans frites but plenty of bread for supper mmmmmm

Forgot to remove the newly acquired wheel clamp when setting off from home once, kind of wrecked it, luckily it was an ebay cheap one more for show than owt, anyway once I got time to have a look I remade it with a lot stouter box section and my welding skills :o

Which tunnel are you looking for Mousy? I’ll have a look for the coordinates or directions if you explain what you don’t know.

PS
Ah just seen your post was last night so guess you’ve either found it or not 😜

We are just outside of Bordeaux for tonight’s stop. We had a much needed lie in this morning!

Our plan for tomorrow is to head to Zaragoza via Irun using tolls and avoiding the mystery tunnel royandsharont, it takes you through the Pyrenees, can’t remember the name sadly 😂

We are parked next to a skateboard park and bulodrome so might have a cheeky game of Molki before we leave!

edit Driver has confirmed tunnel is sommeport tunnel but apparently we won’t need it!?

Have a great trip, Martin is I’m sure very easy to forgive. We can testify to him being very useful, being tall he was a great help last year when we had our first go with our brand new awning sides with only our useless tiny step stool. We are pros now, provided we remember our brand new tall step of course.

If you go to Zaragoza, stay on the aire by the uni campus, opposite the tram stop.

Head to the market, and sample the cheeses, salami, and beers - a beautiful City to visit.

We visited a cheese shop and bought the most expensive, minuscule piece of cheese, before finding the market!

Safe travels xx

You won't need sommeport .
Head for Irun , san sebastian, pamplona.
We stopped at Olite for the night before zaragoza cuz i'd had enough by then .
