What do you pay for storage ?

This is a fascinating survey!

The shortage of storage spaces, not unsurprisingly is in the southeast of England.
Assuming that you could get a yard/field somewhere just beyond the M25, ideally on one of the main arterials (M1, M2, M3, M4 etc.) the big question is:

Where would be the most lucrative ?

Looking at the replies, it would appear M25/M20, M25/M21, M25/M3, M25/M4.
Basically all the major arterials off the M25 south of the Thames.

It strikes me Scotch mist, that you have the right idea, just you need to look at the location, as it's not within 400 miles of where you live.

I currently pay £750 on a working farm with limited security. I’ve always thought it was extortionate, now I’m convinced. The only advantage is that it’s less than 5 miles away.

I really appreciate everyone’s input on their storage , so far it’s much what I expected & encouraging
I’m watching the internal storage costs with particular interest

Tiny - could you give details of the storage in Surrey you mention. I like the idea of 24/7 access.
Liz - it’s in village of West End near Woking, but it’s not the best, quite tight and currently full

I pay £370 for a cassoa gold site Merseyside. It is always full and has a waiting list for spaces. It has a padlocked gate accessible during daylight and then out of hours a second gate. It’s on hard standing and we are packed in.

Perhaps also worth considering when setting up a storage site is how much new development is expected in the area and nearby towns. Provision for parking on many new developments is limited and some homes have restrictive covenants prohibiting the parking of caravans and motorhomes.

I was paying £480 per year for my 30ft fiver but it was hardly ever there,so I have now got it in storage in France at 1 Euro per day, only when its there. The advantage of this is I do not have to pay ferry charges and extra fuel costs dragging it back to the UK. The disadvantage is amnot allowed out of the UK at the moment due to Corona.
Can I ask you where? I am looking for storage In France, and your post is the only one I have found for storage in France.

Sure, my trailer is on Twin Lakes, just north of Bordeaux. Am paying 1 Euro per day and only pay for the days it is there.

M1/M25 Cassoa gold site. Outside, electric gates, fresh water and grey discharge...big waiting list £600 year... cheaper if you live in council area (540?)

£470 in Northumberland. Under cover, gated and CCTV. No restrictions on access. Would be happy to pay more if we could have a hook up.

If I couldn't park it at home I wouldn't buy it to start with or i'd move somewhere that had parking. In fact off road parking & garages & workshops have always been far in front of what the actual house was like when I was buying.(y):giggle:

We made a mistake with this new house. Downsizing we did not take into account that one day we may buy a MoHo hence our van is in storage 8 miles away at £400 P/A. No enthusiasm for another house move.

I’m at the end of the spectrum where I would never dismiss a house ( or a down-size house) if the only thing it didn’t have was MH storage that I can rent off someone else for £500-£600 a year

If the parking of the MoHo became an issue it would be sold.
At present it's in a great lock up. When we need to bring it home for loading-unloading it's fine to stay on the road in front of the house for a couple or 3 nights, just not permanent.

£350 pa in Devon on a Cassoa silver site, with cctv and electric gates. Also stored in a barn, so under cover, but no services.

£372 per annum, Cassoa silver. Leicestershire

Electric gates with entry card.

£720 per year.
Essex, Cassoa Gold site.

part of a campsite so access to water and disposal points.

On grass though so heavy rain can make moving it ‘fun’ and generally accessible during office type hours or by prior agreement a day or two before.

We pay 840 per annum, gold Cassoa site, very secure,it is hard standing and has a separate water and electric, all outside, this is in Medway KENT,I’d do think it’s steep, but very little choices.

Further onto the OP, if someone had the land, and the initial layout of cost, they would make an absolute killing in Kent,,everywhere seems to have a huge waiting list.

£600 PA hardstanding (Payable twice a year in advance)
Kent,
15mins to M25, 2 mins to M2
(130 storage slots equals £78K PA, I wonder what the actual running costs are PA?)

Secure site (Cameras, fob controlled gate, owners in residence)
24 hr access
Limited water and EHU if required

If you wanted to make a business of storage of motorhomes, caravans, boats and horse boxes and could find a level field near an M25 exit, that you could convert into a secure storage area then I think you would have no shortage of customers.

Add to that a (franchised?) regular valet/cleaning operation and I think you could make money
Can I ask for the site details please 👍🏻

£600 per year hard standing outdoors in a CASSOA Gold Site in Kent, unrestricted access with a dongle to open gate, access to water for washing van and EHU just to charge batteries, owner lives on site.
Do you have the details of the site please, thanks.
