what did you fix today

i never thaught this thread would run as long as it has thers some grate fixes on her
bill

Fix in progress but probably worth relating. My next door neighbour gave me a 1986 Daystar caravan for my daughter. After life as a tourer it had spent a couple of years housing two men (one at a time) full time. Then it stood, literally untouched, for five years just the other side of my hedge. It was left with the gas locker on one catch to allow the regulator to hang out of the other side, the water pump connected and dipped into a plastic water container, a battery fitted but off charge, and the fridge on mains. For 5 years!!

The regulator I haven't tested (but it'll be binned anyway), the water pump STILL WORKED perfectly, the battery when disconnected showed 6.4v but I put it on charge (as you do). It started on a Refresh/Maintenance pulse charge then came up to 100%. I discharged it to 12v then re-charged with the same result. Did a drop-test - perfect at rated discharge. It's a cheapo starter battery! The fridge wasn't only left on - the door was 1/2" open because a hinge had collapsed & the furniture board door trim caught on adjacent furniture. So someone had fitted a turn-buckle to a nearby edge of the furniture - that didn't quite work. I've never seen a block of ice that big in a fridge. Anyway on warm days the ice had dripped, leaked out of the fridge, and completely soaked the adjacent corner moulding which, being chipboard with paper coating, had turned into Weetabix. So that's what I've fixed (made a new one) so far.

No water ingress anywhere though :D.

Ive fixed the saggy trim under the drop down bed (the one with lights and au visors on) on my Hymer. The panel under the bed was held up with double sided tape on to a batten which over time has failed. I used some ally angle and stuck this to the side of batten and inside panel ( under mattress) with soudal fix-all. So no more saggy panel.

Fixed a clock in the shower room wall that I can see from bed without my glasses

No it fits flush and the shower lining covers the hole

Had another go at the squeaking overhead bed yesterday, took the spanners to it and gave it another dousing in the lithium grease recommended, hope it has cured it this time instead of just changing its pitch.

Had a go at rebuilding the forward settee that had been bodged by the previous owner, removed all the oak t&g that had been used to replace the back board, replaced that with veneered ply.

The box frame was so off kilter I had to rebuild the entire box, but all done, straight and tidy now.

I removed the big centre table that we had to squeeze in behind and made a smaller one so we can eat at it but still lounge without discomfort.

That meant no bed as I got fed up humping the old table in and out of the wardrobe so I have cut a ply board and covered it with some carpet, it now drops into the space between.the seats giving a slightly raised floor.

I fitted a TV bracket to one of the cupboards and the 22" Cello TV I bought last year but the viewing angle is so poor I will have to rethink the bracket or change the TV. This is the crappiest TV I have ever seen, viewing angle reminiscent of a cheap panels from years ago, but it wasn't cheap.

Gonna fit the tracker tomorrow, plus the battery master, then the 2 new hooters, then I have some usb sockets to fit and wire in, then I am going to remove the top of the dash and sort out the spaghetti junction of wires that are starting to dangle out of the bottom of it.

Hope I don't cock up the electrics.:LOL:

Be careful @Hymie, coincidentally I was at a Fiat Professional agency today and over heard them giving the owner of a nice Frankia the bad news. The gist being the alarm / tracker / immobilizer setup he had had some outfit install had wrecked his engine management unit and a really big bill was headed his way.

Well today I managed to fix the electric step after checking the switches it turned out to be a broken cable inside the van that had been touching the gas pipe and corroded over the years if it came out of the factory like that it wasn't a very professional job with bits of cable but glad its sorted.

After 8 weeks finally pinned lack of power to electrical fault on EGR, disconnected and ran as good as ever, new unit on order.

Thanks for the warning DD, fortunately Harriet's an oldish gal and the only engine management system is me remembering to check the oil and get her serviced regularly. :)

She was chosen as a model that doesn't have all the "If it can go wrong, it will go wrong" gubbins.

Owning an older vehicle does have its downsides but it is pretty simple motoring at heart, and in vehicle years it's like adopting a pensioner, liquids sometimes come out of strange orifices and she struggles to get up stairs, sorry hills, at times, but it's fun trying. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Had a whole list of fixits today
Changed oil and filters
Fitted new blackout blinds in place of grotty day/night blinds and pelmets
Got a new scart switch and can now watch tv using blu ray player or pvr
Fitted TV in bedroom securely to the shelf
Adjusted outside locker doors so they close without me pushing them with my knee!
Put a new saddle on my bike
I think that's it...

Thought I'd have a go at the small crack on the edge of the shower tray which had a temporary fix (two years) of waterproof tape from Carrefour. Used fibreglass matt and resin, too soon to know if its any good yet and need to find some suitable white paint to blend it in!

Not sure if I should have just stayed with the Carrefour tape yet!

Well said @Hymie . Mine is 1990. Things go wrong but even a thick twit like me can fix most things. But I do have a mec on hand one of my sons.

Made my tank fill pump autostop when the Aquaroll is empty. No more hanging around waiting to hear the pump.:)

The sliding catch on my Dometic fridge door AGAIN. How many times an I going to be screwing this together.. surely they could make them more robust .. they cost enough!!!

Not exactly a "fix" but I started to paint my garage floor today.

I replaced a couple of broken latches on the internal cupboards while Allan installed the CB aerial to replace the broken one .... Breaker, breaker, jammy dodger, watch out for them bears on the bridge and all that nonsense!

I must remember to buy a new Ariel For my CB. Some one thought it looked better on theirs than on mine.

Our dishwasher(y)

I didn't exactly fix it but tried it again after switching it off for a few days and it worked.

It probably realised that I was on the John Lewis website this morning looking for its replacement.:)

One of the small Remis roof lights had jammed shut and in trying to open it the operating cable had become displaced. Managed to wedge it open a bit and push the cable back down into its housing. Talcum powder on all sealing rubbers to prevent a recurrence

I fitted my Fiamma anti black streak gutter on back of moho

But won't it mean that the black streaks are harder to reach?

The main problem with black streaks on the rear of the Hymer is below the level of where the roof panel joins the back panel so the gutter will prevent run down and concentrate it in the two corners . No real problem above that .
