Wetherspoons planning to open in June

I note that a lot of posters are saying the same things. Viz; Staff training needs improvement, Some of the older establishments are (IMV as well) due a refurbishment, and comments on food quality.

All the foregoing IMV, are readily rectifiable. It appears that "Tim" has taken his eye off the ball somewhat, perhaps time to rethink the push to open more places, and do some housekeeping?.

In "Normal times" there are means to make such comment. but it is suspended currently I note.
I think it’s a little unfair to pick on the staff. Weatherspoons is not really like you’re village local, it’s cheap, serve them fast and take the money. Pile them high sell them cheap. The staff are probably working hard on minimum wages having to listen to people moaning about their dogs while getting it in the ear for not serving X number of customers an hour by their boss. They probably see the job as a means to an end not utopia. Think people have to except weatherspoons for what it is not what they want it to be.

NOT, picking on staff at all, responding to comment?, yes. As with all businesses there are good and bad points. IF there are issues with staffing then someone within the organisation needs to look at it, as much for the business as the Staff. All across the "leisure" industry, staffing is under stress for many reasons with a lot of "zero" hours contracts being used. My Grandson and Granddaughter both did work for Wetherspoons, during "Uni" and both had vastly different experiences too.

I like the app, it turns the place into a table service restaurant. We've had good and bad with the best so far at Port Solent, it was spotless and the food was very good - it's a pleasant way to start and finish our trips abroad.

Why not? While the dogs would remain at home if we went food shopping, they would come with us on a day out or country walk/lunch out. Lying at our feet under the table they would be less of a hygiene risk than some of the human customers.

As in every French restaurant!

I wonder how many take their Pitt Bulls and Rottweiler to the French restaurants. Haha

But it keeps the prices down ::bigsmile: £5 for 2 drink in there compared to£8-£9 in a normal pub, generally a good choice of proper beer and as someone says above so long as you are not looking for a'la carte its much better than Mc Doo Dahs.
£5for two drinks may be a bargain for the buyer but pity the poor worker, someone always pays for our discounted bargain purchases

They would get the minimum wage whatever and maybe more so I do not see your point, the other pubs will also be paying the same wages

Well if you think that fine but many don't, personally OK for me say in the garden.

May be they was thinking more like a village pub where the staff have time to talk to the customers etc. My only experience of weatherspoons is fast pace service and take the money, move on to the next punter. I chatted once to bar worker from there when we was on the bus and he said staff turn over is big, but I guess it could be influenced by season workers like students etc.

Last summer I booked a room online at The Three Tuns in Thirsk

In '79, me and a mate and our girlfriends were tent camping at Thirsk racecourse on our motorbikes and were soaked through. We set off walking, looking for a pub and a local guy offered us a lift and dropped us off at the Three Tuns. We got in the back room which had an old black leaded fire roaring away in it, we had our Belstaff jackets drying over the backs of chairs and I put my socks in the oven !
The landlady came through with drinks and just laughed. The locals were good crack too. Fast forward to a return visit five years ago and what a disappointment, exactly as you described, I don't think we finished our drinks before we went elsewhere :(

Because after a lovely long country walk it’s nice to get lunch either in the sunshine in a pub garden or if chilly in a lovely country pub. The once I have been in which allow dogs are usually in a separate area and have a wooden floor as the dog area and often as not I will take a towel / blanket for the dogs to sit on. Dogs are tired and happy to lay at their owners feet having a snooze while we wile away the afternoon eating and having a couple of drinks - what’s not to like?
I totally agree with you about a country pub, but I’m on about Wetherspoons, not many of them out in the countryside if any..?

It’s horses for courses. If you’re on a rally and a crowd want a lunchtime drink and something to eat weatherspoons ticks the boxes. If you want a quiet pint, and a friendly chat with the bar staff etc no it’s not what you want. Bit like lidil and marks and Spencer’s different but do the same.

So a bit like going to a site with your partner then spending the holiday talking to the warden? I go to the pub with Mrs T and as much as I would like to talk to the barmaid she insists I talk to her:giggle:

So have I got this right?

It doesn't matter that Tim Martin was planning not to pay Wetherspoons their March wages - which they had earned and was laying 43,000 staff off rather than using the furlough staff at no cost to the company, until there was a public outcry. They have also withheld payment to the small craft breweries for deliveries that they took in December/January.

But some of you guys are happy to support this business model as it means you get a cheap pint?

It would be funny if the manager rang the staff to cone back to work and prefer it at Tesco.
His attitude to the work force is quite deplorable.
I have used them while away from home for work and pleasure.
As I dont like noisesy pubs and I can order on your phone so as not to louse my seat.
But I do all so like the price and never had a bad pint.
My/will have to rethink in the future.

Our local wetherspoons is in a repurposed bank, quite nice building and my DIL does the cooking, her brother is the manager. We don't go there though as any pub that doesn't allow dogs is not worth a visit. Can't be for hygeine reasons as otherwise half their clientele would be banned.
Not everyone likes to share their space with dogs..BUSBY.

We used to use our local one a lot. The food however started getting worse and worse.

One time they had run out of buns and fish, no burgers, no fish and chips.

Most times they forget something on the breakfast, mushrooms, beans, hash browns, it differs each time.

The final straw was when Lucy asked for eggs benedict for breakfast. They brought over two muffins with an egg on top and apologised, but they had run out of hollandaise sauce......

The beer selection is great, the prices cheap, it seems to be horribly mismanaged though. Shame as it’s a lovely old cinema building.

We now use other places where the food is much better and not much more money.
Sensible move what kept you?

Daughter’s partner is a chef in a restaurant first he was told he was sacked then furloughed as he is the only one on full hours but still hasn’t been paid for the 2 weeks before the furlough started and that’s an independent pub

i have a fend who supply's them he only just makes money on his beer and hes on 90 days and look like the orders they have made he wont get a bolt he's going down fast and will probably be bust at the end of this :(
bill

Dogs should not be in the same area where food is served if the pub has a separate area then that's fine if they are well behaved, was in a pub in the lakes awhile ago where dogs were allowed and all you could smell were wet dogs ( yes it had been raining) not nice while eating your meal.

He says, while its guaranteed you are posting using a product made cheaply in Asia with less than model employment law. However, when I look at your avatar I can take a wild guess as to your real gripe with this business owner. :D

Meanwhile, I'm not bothered if they ever reopen, I've never been a Wetherspoons fan, I like my pubs to have a bit more of an atmosphere than an airport departure lounge.
